Bascue’s push crew will be Evan Weinstock (Las Vegas, Nev.), Steve Langton (Melrose, Mass.) and Sam McGuffie (Cypress, Texas). McGuffie has also been selected as Bascue’s brakeman in two-man.

Be really cool to see him push and then backflip into his seat. Good for Sam - it will be fun to watch him.

Yeah front flip - that's what I meant.

It does blow one's mind how you can be that athletic and not be able to make it in the NFL. Goes to show you how much bigger, stronger, faster, etc those guys are if SM can't break in.

Looks like I've got a newfound interest in the bobs this Olympics!
Good luck, Sam!

Hard to see them in the aerodynamic suits they wear. Plus, we're talking about dudes.

That's awesome. Are these teams expected to compete for medals? I don't follow international bobsledding.

C'mon man! you gotta be the only one here who's not into that!

Looking at the rankings and results from the world cup events this year, Bascue's sled is ranked 5th in the 4-man bobsled and 11th in the 2-man bobsled. He is the highest-ranked USA driver in both events, so I guess whomever is picking the team thinks McGuffie is the top...uh...pusher (is that the term?)
Bascue and McGuffie did finish first in the 2-man world cup event in Lake Placid back in November, and a couple of other medals from other events, so I guess a medal wouldn't be completely out of the question.

Congratulations from one Sam to another!
Every since I was a kid watching the Olympics, I always thought that one of the coolest things would be to march in the opening ceremonies: flags waving, crowd cheering, surrounded by the rest of the US team, and the teams from around the world.
The coolest, of course, would be to stand on the podium with a gold medal around your neck as they played the National Anthem for you. (Knowing me, I'd probably lose it.)
Go get 'em, Sam - and Go Blue!

As noted in the thread yesterday, McGuffie will become the first former Michigan football player to compete in an Olympics in 118 years.
John McLean played football at Michigan in the late 1800s and then won a silver medal in the hurdles in the 1900 Paris Olympics.
