Izzo went on a rant when Brandon Johns called him on signing day
Brandon Johns was at the game Saturday, too.

Johns, a senior forward and four-star recruit at East Lansing High School, turned down offers from Purdue, Texas, California and Pittsburgh, among others.
He also shunned MSU and head coach Tom Izzo, who had been recruiting him since seventh grade. Before Johns inked his letter of intent Nov. 10, he reached out to all the coaches who had sought his services.
The local call was the toughest.
“Yeah, he went on a whole rant,” Johns said of Izzo. “That was not what I expected. It wasn’t easy.

the lowest form of bully ball at one end of the floor, complain bitterly and shrilly at the other. Bullies tend to roll that way.

The Flintstones were goons, just brutal to watch. I remember that Final Four game between MSU and Wisconsin, where the score was like 18-16 at halftime. And that was their national title year, IIRC.

Wisconsin was more responsible for that pace of play as they've been playing at a snail's pace for 20 years.
And we also play at a snails pace possession-wise, but our games are better because we're good at offense and (usually) not great at defense so there's still scoring (and few fouls).

Wisonsin and MSU both play a similar brand of basketball. They want to drag you down to their level and play an ugly game, then they usually have a knack for finding a way to make a few plays late to pull off a W. Both teams are able to make runs in the tournament with this style because not many teams are used to playing that style, and they get frustrated.
MSU football does the same thing. They are able to turn the game into a shitshow, then always manage to put that one drive together late to win a game.

Izzo still recruits well off his reputation but his coaching has slipped tremendously. John Beilein routinely outcoaches Izzo and did so again here.

Napoleon was an actual soldier. Izzo's a basketball coach who wishes he could play soldier and prove what a real man he is.

Someone needs to put a picture of Izzo's face on Miles Finch's body running across the table in the scene from the Elf movie.

Tyrion Lannister's body?

He's waaaay too small to go all Woody Hayes on someone. He'd have to look up to the kid to throw the punch.

Sometimes you get your little brother excited when you're playing basketball and let him get the lead. Then you just come back and take it back.

But damn, I cannot stand the amount of freedom he's been given by officials. About 95 percent of the coaches in the NCAA would be given multiple technicals a game with the way he conducts himself on the court. There are times when he's nothing but class, and there are times when he acts like a little man.

I saw a couple shots of the ref's telling both coaches to get back in their box and move back. Izzo looked like he was not allowed on the court like he usually is.
I hate seeing him out on the court when other teams are on offense. That should be an immediate T to me, as players should not have to worry about moving around him on the court.

I know if I was Johns, I'd be absolutely terrified to make that phone call. The least I would expect is the guy on the other end to say, "I understand you are making the best decision for you, I wish you the best." That's all he needs to say.

I've made calls to companies as an adult to end up turning down a job I told them initially I was going to take. It takes a lot of maturity for a kid that age to call the other coaches up. I can't imagine a coach acting that way.

with how far little Tommy wanders onto the court, Johns just might jump over him for a dunk.
