Loss still stings but at least we get them again. Beating the MAC (yup) was crucial in that single matchup.

wonder if UM would have the best RPI in the BIG if they got that Purdue win.
January 15th, 2018 at 8:54 AM ^
The good guys are actually 15-4, not 14-4.
January 15th, 2018 at 8:59 AM ^
RPI does not factor in victories over non-D1 opponents, so Michigan's win over Chaminade is not included in their RPI profile.
January 15th, 2018 at 9:02 AM ^
Ah. Why even schedule that game?
January 15th, 2018 at 9:11 AM ^
Because we lost to a mediocre LSU team we played Chaminade instead of Notre Dame.
January 15th, 2018 at 10:37 AM ^
A possible matchup with Chaminade is the price you pay for a free trip to Hawaii. Reasonable trade-off in my estimation.
January 15th, 2018 at 9:18 AM ^
While the scheduling of other tomato cans on our schedule is a head scratcher, we didn't "schedule" Chaminade. They were in the Maui invitational and we would have avoided a match up with them had we beaten a slightly better than expected but still mediocre LSU team.

My apologies if your question was a subtle joke that went over my head, but on the assumption your question is serious, the answer is:
We didn't schedule Chaminade. We had to play them after losing to LSU in Maui, since that's the way the loser's bracket wound up. John Beilein even joked that he had hoped never to play Chaminade in his career, because the implication was that you'd lost in Maui's first round. It was much discussed at the time: the LSU loss was a double whammy: a loss to a mediocre team that also removed a game against a D1 team from the schedule. Michigan definitely would not have chosen to play Chaminade.

Informative

In a tournament

I believe that Chaminade gets a game with someone regardless in the Hawaii Invitational because they are the school hosting the event. It has always been like that since the inception of that invitational as well, and I think they've even upset a decent team or two in the past - not very many though.

I see the scheduling gods are the same ones who deliver our football schedule. One day off?
Also, MSU only plays the top 3 teams, once.
Ho humm...
January 15th, 2018 at 9:16 AM ^
And is currently 0-2 against them with the highest ranked still to come.
January 15th, 2018 at 10:01 AM ^
Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t we need State to win the big games going going forward? I’m not sure if we “want” Purdue to beat MSU at this point right? I mean we don’t play MSU again and already won the head to head. I am assuming we need Purdue to lose a couple more games and then we need to beat them. Plus as much I hate to say this, state needs to keep winning to stay a quality win for us.
January 15th, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^
not named tOSU. Doesn’t matter how it effects us.
January 15th, 2018 at 10:18 AM ^
If i knew for a fact that MSU beating Purdue would result in Michigan winning the Big Ten, I would 100 percent root for MSU. So it does matter how it affects us
January 15th, 2018 at 10:35 AM ^
Just like six years ago, Michigan needed OSU to beat MSU at Breslin so that OSU, MSU, and UM would share the regular season crown. Rooting for OSU doesn't exactly warm my heart but you bet your ass I was pulling hard for them in that game. When William Buford made a tough jumper to seal victory I jumped off the couch and fist pumped, then felt sheepish as I remembered my best friend just watched his team lose an outright B1G title (sorry, buddy).

Negged you for feeling sorry for your Sparty friend. Unforgivable.
January 15th, 2018 at 11:09 AM ^
He actually doesn't mind when Michigan does well (head-to-head matchups aside, obviously) and is a big fan of Beilein (he isn't crazy about Harbaugh, though).
January 15th, 2018 at 10:18 AM ^
I mean we are 2 back of both Purdue and OSU right now and play them both still so we would need to win those. Then they have a head to head so one will lose. That leaves one loss needed by whichever team won that head to head.
The easiest route is probably Purdue best OSU and MSU beat Purdue. But with only 1 loss technically needed between the two teams I wouldnt say MSU beating Purdue is a requirement.
January 15th, 2018 at 10:27 AM ^
Correct, we don’t want them to crater. I would say we are safely in the whatever helps our chances in that Big 10 standings.
January 15th, 2018 at 12:44 PM ^
I would be more than fine if Staee craters.
January 15th, 2018 at 9:50 AM ^
Of course, if they drop all 3, and don't get a chance to get a win, they have to wait until the BIG tournament to get quality wins to help their seeding.

Now push hard for Romeo
