OT: Per Gil Brandt on the Twitters: Kevin Sumlin to Arizona
January 14th, 2018 at 2:34 PM ^
Honestly, all character issues aside, I'd say that's an upgrade over RichRod, or at least an even trade? Good hire!
January 14th, 2018 at 2:36 PM ^
Great hire.
January 14th, 2018 at 2:36 PM ^
Fantastic hire
January 14th, 2018 at 2:37 PM ^
Stupendous hire
January 14th, 2018 at 2:39 PM ^
Great hire for AZ...Stupid job to accept for Sumlin. You cannot win in AZ.
January 14th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
for ruining the chain
January 14th, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
Thanks for bein so cool homie. Hahaha
January 14th, 2018 at 2:49 PM ^
Stupendous hire!
January 14th, 2018 at 3:25 PM ^
A-maize-ing?
January 14th, 2018 at 3:42 PM ^
Splendid hire
January 14th, 2018 at 5:31 PM ^
expialodocous hire
January 14th, 2018 at 6:39 PM ^
Indeed. Let's put it on a billboard.
January 14th, 2018 at 4:34 PM ^
He was pulling your chain. So the question is, is a chain a chain?
January 14th, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
It's not a great job, but it's not terrible. Here are Arizona's records over the last 10 years:
2008 - 8-5 (5-4 conf.)
2009 - 8-5 (6-3)
2010 - 7-6 (4-5)
2011 - 4-8 (2-6)
2012 - 8-5 (4-5)
2013 - 8-5 (4-5)
2014 - 10-4 (7-2)
2015 - 7-6 (3-6)
2016 - 3-9 (1-8)
2017 - 7-6 (5-4)
That's with Mike Stoops and Rich Rodriguez coaching them. If Sumlin's an upgrade over those two (probably, I would say), he can do OK.
January 14th, 2018 at 2:50 PM ^
No one hires like Arizona, believe me.
January 14th, 2018 at 4:30 PM ^
Superb!
January 14th, 2018 at 2:52 PM ^
Wasn't that why RichRod was fired?
January 14th, 2018 at 3:39 PM ^
about RR.
January 14th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
I wonder if David Cutcliff turned down the job first?
January 14th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
ASU gets Herm Edwards and they get Sumlin?
January 14th, 2018 at 2:58 PM ^
we’ve been told
January 14th, 2018 at 2:44 PM ^
Arizona nailed that hire. Khalil Tate has got to be bouncing of his dorm room walls right now.
January 14th, 2018 at 3:27 PM ^
His tweets paid off!
January 14th, 2018 at 2:45 PM ^
Arizona Wildcats or Arizona Cardinals? A wee bit of difference...
January 14th, 2018 at 3:44 PM ^
Always thought it was weird they're called the Arizona Cardinals. Feel like it doesn't fit. Am I alone/dumb/both?
January 14th, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
Sort of like the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Lakers
January 14th, 2018 at 3:59 PM ^
The Lakers moved to Los Angeles where there are no lakes. The Oilers moved to Tennessee where there is no oil. And the Jazz moved to Utah where they don’t allow music.

LOVE THAT MOVIE!
"What an unfortunate thing to happen on dozen egg night!"
January 14th, 2018 at 8:57 PM ^
Come and listen to my story 'bout a man named Jed...
January 14th, 2018 at 4:00 PM ^
Would make more sense if Memphis and Utah traded team names.
January 14th, 2018 at 4:46 PM ^
St. Louis kept the name when they left Chicago. It's a little known fact that the Cardinals are the oldest franchise in the NFL.
January 14th, 2018 at 9:02 PM ^
It's a shame they lost their original rivalry with the Pottsville Maroons--their franchise has never been the same.
January 15th, 2018 at 10:44 AM ^
that worked pretty well because the Cardinal is the state bird of both Missouri and Illinois. But Arizona?
January 14th, 2018 at 4:12 PM ^
No way on the Cardinals? He doesn’t get fired from A&M only to get an upgrade into the NFL.
January 14th, 2018 at 2:48 PM ^
This was a layup of a hire. Nice to see Arizona not blow it.
January 14th, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
HERE!!!
January 14th, 2018 at 2:55 PM ^
but I doubt it.
January 14th, 2018 at 3:03 PM ^
Sumlin runs the perfect offense for Tate--he's having visions of Manziel 2.0.
January 14th, 2018 at 2:57 PM ^
Not a ton of change to scheme so Sumlin shouldn't need a ton of time to get 'his' guys, plus Sumlin is probably a better spread coach than Richrod. Richrod peaked in like 2006-2007 and everyone's been innovating past him since
January 14th, 2018 at 3:01 PM ^
I'd like to see what a RR offense would have been without Pat White. I'm starting to think the player made the coach.
January 14th, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
Well, he’s been a head coach for the last decade without Pat White. Take a look back at some film over the last 10 years, sans 2011.
January 14th, 2018 at 3:23 PM ^
Lol where has the guy been for the past ten years? It's pretty clear by now what rich rod looks like w out Pat White...
January 14th, 2018 at 3:26 PM ^
Yeah, RichRod's post-White offense has not been a problem. His offenses have probably scored more points than any other coach's over that span of years. The problem is that his defenses have allowed more points than any other coach's.
January 14th, 2018 at 3:00 PM ^
he's no Herm Edwards
January 14th, 2018 at 3:03 PM ^
Yup. He seems perfectly sane.
January 14th, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
Herm Edwards: "Is that a girl's jersey?"
ASU employee: "No...This is a game jersey"
Herm: "This is a GAME JERSEY?!?!?"

Oh, that coaching hire is going to end spectacularly. It will be the gift that keeps giving.
