I don't. Mainly because he is an intelligent guy, and I don't think there are many of those coaching in the NFL. He has a Bachelor's in Aeronautical Engineering from RPI(where he played football). He is also the one who introduced Belichek to advanced metrics a decade ago. It would be the first time in my lifetime the Lions hired a coach that other teams also covet. I would be ecstatic to get him.

Swap out Economics for Aeronautical Engineering and Georgetwon for RPI, and this is a post about Jim Schwartz. I don't disagree that what Patrica brings to the table is appealing, but its been done before and didn't work. Unfortunately going the "experienced" route and hiring Caldwell didn't work out either.

There is ZERO information in the article.

The "hot news" is that Patricia and the GM might get along. No one has a clue. The fact that it's making the rounds as an actual story is scary.

the fact that a national outlet in ProFootballTalk reported that the Patriots expected Patricia was likely to end up with the Lions carries a bit more weight for me than a NYDN reporter that says Patricia will end up with the Giants. I'm also a massive homer that has a rocket for the rocket scientist so I'm biased.

Buy into the "real fans don't stop rooting for their hometown team just because they move (see Sports Guy, Boston - pre ESPN)" and continue to root for the Lions. Then discover rooting for a team that no one else in your area does is oddly enjoyable, and add in that rooting for a team that no one else does while they go winless is even more oddly enjoyable, and you are stuck.

Ironic Twist: move back to Michigan and discover that now you are just like everybody else rooting for said awful team and experience true emptiness.

adopt the local team and still remain a Lions fan. I jumped on the Jaguars bandwagon (aka the Jaggin Wagon) when we moved to Jax a few years back and it's paying off this year. Still primarily a Lions fan though. I guess what im saying is, I'll be rooting for the Lions in that Jags-Lions super bowl next year.

But it didn't feel right anymore with them in LA this year. But I would never dream of rooting for the Vikings now that I live in MN. In fact, I'm irrationally excited about how depressed the locals will be when they choke again, whether it be this weekend or next, or God willing, when hosting the big one!

Between Colts, Lions, Cards, and Giants no team really doing much. Of the teams left in the playoffs, the only big names coming up for multiple spots are Patricia, McDaniels, and Shurmur. Missing anyone? Surprised with Carolina out, Wilkes hasn't been offered. He was high on several list. He turning into a backup option? McDaniel rumors have been really quiet. Can't imagine all are waiting on the dominos to fall with Patricia, are they? Curious what Colts and Cards do. Waiting can hurt your options for position & coordinator spots. If Lions lose Patricia and settle on Vrabel this late in the game, they are in big trouble.

but other than that I don't see what would make the Giants a more attractive job offer. The Lions have a better quarterback, a more stable front office, more cap space and flexibility to play around with the roster, less media pressure, and a better all around receiving corps, even though Odell is still one of the great playmakers in the NFL. The Giants gave a ton of guaranteed money to veterans like Olivier Vernon, Jason Pierre Paul, Janoris Jenkins, and Damon Harrison, and while they all performed well, it kind of locks them into paying those guys for a few years, while also having to pay Odell Beckham and Landon Collins longterm contracts next year. But I trust Bob Quinn to make the right hire, I just hope it's not another retread.

This organization is sooooo cursed.  They may never get it right.  This is how they ended up with Caldwell.  They tried for Wisenhunt last time and settled for Caldwell.  They may never get a win

I have nothing but respect for Caldwell. For the first time in ages they were an actual legit disciplined football team. They stopped taking all the stupid ass penalties and kinda stopped constantly finding ways to screw up. Hopefully the next coach can take them to the next level because I feel like Caldwell had them on the right track and I really don’t want them to go back to what they were.

Not true. At all. Not cursed. Have some fucking perspective. Owned by the Fords in a time when we went off the gold standard, slowly kicking everything overseas. Hard to keep mind on the team when the family business is slowly slipping away. And Caldwell was a good coach. Be careful what you wish for.

No coach or general manager goes into a job thinking anything but that they will kick ass. In Detroit whoever takes the job inherits a 9-7 team that has an established good to very good quarterback signed for 5 years and significant cap room. Jobs like that rarely become available. Whoever the next coach is will be thinking things are lined up to become a hero. Not that he will get herpes from ownership (now there is an awful visual...)

Whatever happened in the past is of no consequence. Only fans and talk show hosts get hung up on curses. The Red Sox and the Cubs won the World Series. Jacksonville won a playoff game. Arizona made a Super Bowl.

That the story has no merit because it talks about WHY they would be a good fit and there's no sourcing that he actually has any interest in the Giants job, why would people freak out if they didn't get Patricia? How do you know which coach will work out well? There's ZERO way to determine the synergy between coach and organization. He could come here and be horrible. They could get lucky that they missed on him and someone like Shurmur is better.

I don't get why some people get hung up on names. Unless it's someone like BB or whatever HoF coaches are still active, there's just no way to determine who's going to be good.
