Another Shocker! I'd post the shocker jpeg again but that would be over kill for this one. UM is going to have to trai harder to get top talent to leave LA.

Yeah, there are times where we get talent from the south when the in-state power offered (at least from Florida) but most of the kids we offer from LA who have LSU offers or from AL who have Bama offers or from GA who have UGA offers - are going to stay in-state.

There are exceptions, and there always will be, but we shouldn't get too bummed when this sort of thing happens.

outlier year in Georgia, but there was an article in one of the local papers the other day in Altanta (which of course I can't find) talking about the number of top kids leaving the state this past year. Only 4 of top 15 ranked by Rvals signed with instate program (UGA) and 7 of top 20 (2 with GT and 1 more UGA). The only two Rivals 5-stars went out of state. Other than Markeith Ambles to USC and Tai-ler Jones to Dame, everyone pretty much all stayed south, which I think underscores your point. It's a tough row to hoe pulling kids from southern states.

Incidently, Rivals cutoff in Georgia for 4-star was #30 this past year, so if you're UGA or Tech, you can afford to miss on a few instate kids. Nice problem to have.

As WolvinLA2 said, typically the only Louisiana guys we should hope to get are going to be under-the-radar types.  The deep south (and Florida doesn't count) is kind of like a black hole for talent - there's a lot of it there, and it tends to stay there.

It's not a perfect metaphor because of guys like Anthony Thomas, but I only really expect to get guys like Carvin Johnson and Drew Dileo.

The south is a good place for us to get our Martavious Odoms and Vincent Smith types - guys who maybe aren't perfect for the SEC powers but fit great in our offense.  Same with Drew Dileo.  There are also the Carvin Johnson types, guys who don't prove themselves to be SEC worthy until we are already their top choice.  All of these will happen, but they won't be many of the guys down there.

On one hand, it might mean we have a better chance at players down there. On the other, it means that Les ain't getting the job done, and I always root for Michigan guys who are coaching elsewhere.

It must be a nice problem for the SEC schools to have in the deep south excluding Florida when you have a plethora of talent to choose from and they all stay in state. I'd be happy getting a guy or two from the southern states excluding Florida every year.
