Its happening?
January 6th, 2018 at 12:39 AM ^
So he is now available for the UM job?
January 5th, 2018 at 7:03 PM ^
but what do I know about it? We (and he) could do worse.
I do find it interesting that we don't yet know what position Enos is taking.
January 5th, 2018 at 7:15 PM ^
The rumors are that Wheatley and Fisch had a disagreement with harbaugh about the direction of the offense and neither would be likely to come back. Not that there is bad blood, but just don’t see eye to eye coaching philosophy
January 5th, 2018 at 7:23 PM ^
from what i've read wheatley wanted to be in the NFL and Jedd wanted solo OC responsibilities but when Drevno didn't get a HC offer he split for UCLA to have solo OC position. Jedd wants to be a HC and co-oc for another year wasn't a step in that direction.
January 5th, 2018 at 7:31 PM ^
If they had a disagreement, maybe Harbaugh reaches out and admits he was wrong and offers him the OC position as well as associate head coach and full control of the offense.
January 5th, 2018 at 7:46 PM ^
He's not giving Jedd or anyone else full control of the offense. Jedd wanted to be an OC and our job wasn't open. It looks like it may be now. There's nothing to apologize for. If Harbaugh wants Fisch back, he can offer him the OC job. It will still be a collaborative effort whoever gets the job. Just like it would have been if Jedd got it last year.
If Jedd thinks he can do better, that's fine. I'm not sure what other jobs he might be up for. Probably not many with close to the same pay.
January 5th, 2018 at 9:08 PM ^
My God, people on here don’t know what a good OC looks like. Think Cam Cameron with Mo. Think Kiffin and Sark with SC.
Nothing Fisch did was that impressive.
January 5th, 2018 at 9:17 PM ^
Is perfect.
Take a look at Jeds last 3 years and Drevnos last 3 years. And don’t give me all the youth crap. After 13 games youth is not an excuse.
Also coming in Jed and Drevno had what was thought to be a brutal mess of an offense from Hoke.
January 5th, 2018 at 9:44 PM ^
Of course youth matters. To say it doesn’t is to say the Earth is flat.
Young WRs, young OL, three different starting QBs...the most experienced of which was bad under Fisch as well.
Does that excuse the play calling? No. I do think that the staff was dysfunctional this year. Too many cooks in the kitchen and the offense reflected that.
But youth was most definitely a huge factor in an offense that is complex and asks a lot of the players in it.
January 5th, 2018 at 10:40 PM ^
Jedd had some good shit.
The thing he gets the most credit for (The Train) was Jaybaugh though.
January 6th, 2018 at 10:41 AM ^
Would that get any credit?
January 6th, 2018 at 12:04 AM ^
2015 passing S&P+ (Michigan): 17th
2016 passing S&P+ (Michigan): 29th
2017 passing S&P+ (UCLA): 27th
He's good as a passing coordinator (but maybe only good). Not sure how you'd compare him to Drevno since he was passing coordinator and Drevno was running coordinator. If you want to talk about how the passing game tanked this year, that's on Pep and Harbaugh more than Drevno.
Besides, your use of the phrase is wrong here. We don't have perfectly good and are risking messing that up by trying to be perfect (like what would be the case if we tried to improve our MBB coaching). We have bad right now, and what is bad is Pep and whatever Harbaugh is responsible for. No one is denying that. But since we have to bring someone new in, why not shoot for great, rather than settle for good (probably). Doing that doesn't risk losing good because we don't have good anyway.
Also, the only part of the offense that was a brutal mess that Fisch inherited was the QB situation and Harbaugh solved that admirably. Fisch inherited two NFL WRs, Jake Butt, an experienced (if somewhat flawed) OL, and a solid RB committee. It was a pretty good situation after Harbaugh got Rudock.
January 10th, 2018 at 2:37 AM ^
From after Hokes last game until the Florida st bowl our offense was putting up nearly 40 ppg. Only Iowa (Indiana was snow and Okorn) looked like this years offense. People are seeing these NFL players now but I tell you before Jedd was passing coord Hoke did not have 2 NFL wide receivers. Its like saying Don Brown was handed all this NFL talent. If it was the Harbaugh touch where did it go?
We could do much much worse for a passing game coordinator. If you like the jump we made from game 1 to game 13 then by all means stay the course. Id take Jed and my chances of him having his first non top 30 passing game.
January 6th, 2018 at 4:38 PM ^
We have a career's worth of evidence that Jedd Fisch is pretty much a replacement level pro style offensive coordinator. Not an incompetent, not a world beater. But because he left right before Michigan had to play a season with all underclassmen, people think he's a messiah. Very odd.
How did UCLA's offense look to y'all? You know, the team in the lesser division in a garbage conference with an NFL QB?
January 8th, 2018 at 9:25 AM ^
Darnold is not an NFL QB. Sure he'll get drafted, but he won't stick around.
January 9th, 2018 at 9:36 AM ^
And yeah Darnold's typical USC hot trash getting by on excellent USC skill position talent. But Josh Rosen at UCLA? He's going to be a pro bowler.
January 10th, 2018 at 2:41 AM ^
Give me the Jed upgrade? Im dying to hear. Hopefully these offseason practices will do what 13 games couldnt and fix our offense.
January 6th, 2018 at 7:46 PM ^
Cam Cameron is awful
January 7th, 2018 at 1:36 AM ^
He’s talking about Cam Cameron when he was at Michigan.
January 6th, 2018 at 8:17 AM ^
I find this hilarious, I know nothing about football and I was 100% sure at the beginning of the year that Mora wouldn’t survive, I don’t understand how being a 1 year OC for dumpster fire gets you further toward your career goals
January 5th, 2018 at 7:07 PM ^
Wait, I don't see the relevance to Fisch.
January 5th, 2018 at 7:21 PM ^
He was supposed to be Mizzou’s Oc. So people are speculating that since Dooley got the job, he could be available to come back.
January 5th, 2018 at 7:22 PM ^
he was rumored to be the guy that was going to be taking over the OC spot at mizzou
January 5th, 2018 at 7:24 PM ^
Fisch was rumored to be taking the Mizzou OC job. OC just hired someone else for the job Fisch was rumored to be taking. Meaning he’s still on the market. Bam. Relevance.
January 5th, 2018 at 7:50 PM ^
Basically people thought that Fisch would look elsewhere after Chip Kelly took the UCLA HC job. He was rumored to go to Mizzou. Now that Dooley is confirmed as the OC there, some people think he may have interest back at UM with the supposed turnover with our offensive coaching staff.
January 5th, 2018 at 8:33 PM ^
So...
January 6th, 2018 at 12:07 AM ^
because if we wanted Fisch, Mizzou wouldn't be what gets in the way of him coming back. Them hiring someone else and thus making him "available" doesn't change our interest (or lack thereof) in bringing him back.
January 6th, 2018 at 7:36 PM ^
What if he was our 2nd choice and Roman was the 1st? There are other scenarios where he becomes our 1st choice among available candidates. No real way for us to know.
It fits with the timing so far. Missouri was widely expected to hire Fisch a couple of weeks ago. They waited and then hired someone else. It's possible the delay was because they gave Jedd some time to decide. Roman just made a deal with the Ravens. We're hiring assistants but haven't announced an OC. It seems like that's the spot we'd want to fill 1st.
January 5th, 2018 at 8:09 PM ^
I don't see Fisch coming back either but given the choice of unemployment or employment I would choose the latter hopefully Fisch sees it that way and Harbaugh reaches out to him
January 5th, 2018 at 8:37 PM ^
Do we really want Fisch back?
January 5th, 2018 at 8:40 PM ^
Heck yeah!
January 5th, 2018 at 8:56 PM ^
Do want

Yeah but does a two-legged duck with a boner drag weeds?
January 5th, 2018 at 10:38 PM ^

January 5th, 2018 at 9:57 PM ^
I will never forgive Fisch for stealing Asiasi.. unless he comes back then I would probably forgive him.
I will say I heard Jed is a candidate for the Arizona job, it was a random dude JT the Brick was interviewing on the radio but the guys seemed to know his shit, take that for what it's worth.
January 6th, 2018 at 12:15 AM ^
given the presence of Tate and an existing killer offense that Fisch doesn't seem like he could run (Pepcat, anyone?).
January 5th, 2018 at 10:15 PM ^
I’ll bet Fisch ends up as an OC in the NFL with this most recent carousel cycle
January 5th, 2018 at 10:22 PM ^
I wouldn't mind seeing him team up with Vrabel
January 6th, 2018 at 7:44 AM ^
As much as I’d like to see it, I’d be shocked if he ever came back. Coaches are just like us in that they want to show progress on their resumes and coming back to do the same job wouldn’t necessarily show progress.
January 6th, 2018 at 9:04 AM ^
to be the OC version of Don Brown at DC ? Absolutely not IMO. Don Brown was doing it for years before coming to UM. Therefore, he is no, as of yet, the kind of guy you hand over complete control of one side of the ball to, even if brought in wit han OC title.
Art Briles (ignoring the slime an corruption), Chip Kelly, Lane Kiffin (yes, it feels crazy to type that), are the level of offensive minds you can bring in and justify handing the keys over to on offense (allowing them to completely run their own show). Jed has not yet reached that status yet IMO.
I also hear Borges and DeBord are available.
