Recruiting Implications?
After our loss to South Carolina and the wins of a majority of opposing teams we are in recruitng battles with (Bama, Georgia, OSU, PSU...Etc), I started to think how this season effected our recruiting for our current and upcoming targets. Recruiting is a weird game in which wins and losses can affect a teams chances with a recruit or maybe not. In our case, the way we lost games this year and those who we lost to, are the ways that we hurt ourselves with said targets. As of now, I see us missing on some key recruits in this cycle and hurting us more than we expected in the upcoming 2019 cycle. But again who knows, maybe this last season didn't hurt us as much as we expected, and we can put it together and sign a Top 10 class in 2019, and also still land our remaining targets in this cycle. So my question is, how do you all feel this season effected our chances in recruting? And do you think we still manage to put together the harrolded 2019 class we are all expecting for next year or not?

I think recruiting has far more to do with relationships with the coaches then losing yet another game due to bad qb play and an already bad OL missing 2.5 starters.

Recruiting is about momentum leveraged relationships. No matter what happens I think JH needs to retain Partridge if at all possible. I say this because various boards are claiming Alabama is after him to include others.

But . . but . . he was only brought here to con Peppers and Gary into going to Michigan.

cant see why theyd possibly let partridge walk - unless he wants out or teams are offering DC job or insane money. hes by far the staffs top recruiter (and one of countrys best) and hes a talented, young coach on the rise.
no doubt hell get offers (and i know hes already gotten a few) but itll take a lot for him to leave his current deal with brown (plus ST duties). at least i hope so as he could do great things at michigan

A quick search on Al Washington (I wasn't familiar with him either) shows he was the RB & assistant ST coach at BC until a year ago, & currently coaches DL at Cincinatti. So unless Mattison is retiring... (Not that I want to see that at all.) Would he coach RB's? Brown would be familar with him though.

I'm open minded. Would rather focus on more college-centric coaches. The college game is different where how much talent you have amassed is more important than the NFL where there is a salary cap. I don't think any of the NFL guys on staff have really panned out besides Greg Jackson.

washington would be a nice addition, hes a good young coach (plus hes a bc grad which i always like). i thought hes going to cincy though

Whatever Reese is going to do has already been decided between him and the Georgia staff. Michigan is just a bystander at this point.

What might explain his personality change from the firery to what appears sometimes as placid on the sidelines? Some of the poor decisions making at times?
Have heard people offer up; meeting the Pope, he has gotten to rich and comfortable to he is on medication to even him out.

And I heard that his overly-calm doppelganger came through a wormhole from another dimension and switched places with the firey JH.
In other words, people who don't know what the hell they're talking about will say all kinds of shit.

If the staff is as good as they're made out to be, we'll have a top 5 class again in 2019. We need more top guys on the lines and QB. DL looks good but we need some maulers on the OL like Dobbs or Logan Brown. We can still sell playing time at the tackles and the NFL draft success.

I think we'll be fine.

They sucked last year, still recruited very well, and continue to do so. My concerns are with the skill level of the coaches actually closing the sale......especially wthi the offensive lineman. I mean, WTF. There's the problem.

Doesn't matter anyways. Michigan needs more 2 and 3 star guys... you know, guys who are hungry! /s

Will only maybe impact a handful of closing targets, then next season's class will react more to the 2018 season and will have completely forgotten about this past season.
Georgia finished 6-6 last year, they seem to be doing alright with this year's class (#1 overall).

If Scott Frost can beat Auburn with UCF-level recruits... then we'd better hope Harbaugh can at least match that kind of return-on-recruiting, or else we are barely cracking the top half of the B1G.

Nebraska and every contiguous state combined produce less HS football talent than Ohio.

The Harbaugh name is big for what he has done and also because he is in the media so much. Known names will always win a couple guys, he is a brand and that is good for Michigan.
I hope coaches at Michigan the rest of his life.

“We beat them every year” is a big factor for OSU I would guess.
January 2nd, 2018 at 9:36 PM ^
The fact that we played in the Outback Bowl and OSU/PSU played in the NY6 had a bigger impact on recruiting.
