TomVH: Kent Turene Update

Submitted by TomVH on

Boyd Anderson LB, Kent Turene told me that Tony Dews will be at his school to evaluate him sometime this week. This is good news for Turene, as he's been wanting to hear more from Michigan.

He's been racking up offers from everywhere, with the latest from UCF for a total of 16. Kent is really high on Michigan, and depending on how the evaluation goes, he's hoping Michigan extends an offer his way.

Also, he has a snake in his highlight video. You can't really go wrong there.

Can you get a feel from him how much Dorsey's pending enrollment is a factor?  Or is his interest in UM independent of Dorsey?

I don't think that will play into it. If Dorsey doesn't make it, then he's going to work to eventually get in to Michigan, so they're probably still talking about it. It obviously wouldn't hurt, though.

Somehow he seems able to become larger and glow just before he's about to make a tackle. That's got to be intimidating as hell to opposing ballcarriers.

He's already 225lbs, likely a year and a half before he gets on campus (depending on when that weight was taken).  That's already pretty big for those hyrbid spots.  In fact, most of the LB's we have are in the 225-235 range.

That's probably more likely, I was only thinking of the spur/bandit spots.  However, Turene is only 6'2", a lot shorter than Roh, and because of this, he might have a harder time putting on the weight for the Roh spot without looking like a DE.  6'2" 260 would be a very stout LB.

A guy like Beyer is a better fit for the Roh spot, and Turene better for Ezeh's LB spot, maybe Mouton's LB spot if he doesn't put on much more weight.

It could be that 225 is a little inflated or he might have 5-10 lbs he needs to burn off before he's in Barwis shape.  Either way, a 6'2" LB probably won't be more than 240lbs or so.  I think he's a MIKE.

There's a Senor Fish that I've been to a handful of times on 1st street in Little Tokyo near downtown.  That's a solid place.

I'm in East LA for work occasionally (I work in sales), where is a good lunch place to eat that I wouldn't know about?

Haha you know whats funny? I dont eat out at all in East LA. My wife and I dine out exclusively in Pasadena/Eagle Rock/South Pasadena area. When we are home we make our food haha! If you are ever in Pasadena there is a place called slaw dogs that is great. Its pricey for a hot dog (6 or 7 bucks) but it is good. There is also Roscoes Chicken and Waffles and Big Mommas Rib Shack. There are quite a few good places to eat in Pasadena.

Yeah, we go into Pasadean quite a bit, my fiancee used to live in old town.  I've never been to Slaw Dogs though, so I'll have to check that out.  I'm not in Pasadena all that much during the day because I sell to hospitals and there's only one there, plus it's not really on the way to anything.

Who knows why we're delaying, because I believe he'll end up a solid 3/low 4 star prospect and we need linebackers like whoa.  Makes me wonder whether it's strategic (want what you don't yet have) or if they're still doing their background research.  I like him.

It looks like he does a good job of making his reads instead of reacting immediately.  He showed good explosion at the point of contact, making sure that when hits someone they don't fall forward.  As long as he continues to wrap up on big hits then that is awesome.  A couple times when being blocked in space, it looked like he went around the blocker(slow O-lineman) instead of fighting through the block, but that's common and easily coached.  He did have enough speed to make the stop even after rerouting to go around the blocker.  He apperas to be a good athletic middle linebacker.

His offer list is really impressive, I think it can only be a plus to the school's chances that offered him before the in state school's

Impressive highlight tape, hopefully we offer him soon. I think with the Barwis weight room factor he could be really good. Would be nice to have a linebacker with Florida speed.
