Chase decision, What says you?
December 29th, 2017 at 7:44 AM ^
EXTENSIVELY
No wrong decision for him. Hope he stays, think he will.
December 29th, 2017 at 7:49 AM ^
I get it. I also get no one wants to jinx it. However if this is not a positive interview for him coming back I don't know what is. Clearly to me it sounds like he has some unfinished business that he would like to handle. For what it's worth, after the interview he was laughing it up with a few of his teamates and they were giving him shit about making us all wait. Reading between the lines, he back! (is that the inverse to he gone?) Not sure.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:36 AM ^
Automatic downvote from me.
December 29th, 2017 at 9:50 AM ^
Why? Who cares.
December 29th, 2017 at 10:20 AM ^
To be fair, this is a snippet of his decision discussion from the interview and doesn't include any of the positive things he said about leaving for the NFL. Still think he stays, however
December 29th, 2017 at 7:45 AM ^
Selfish me says it'd be great to have him back, but in life you gotta do what's best for you now and in the long term.
December 29th, 2017 at 7:49 AM ^
He gone
December 29th, 2017 at 7:53 AM ^
He’s outta here. If he was thinking about staying, I think he would’ve announced it by now.
December 29th, 2017 at 9:35 AM ^
Or he is waiting to see his potential draft grade after the season ends. No reason for him to say anything right now. The interview seems to clearly point to him being undecided at the moment.
December 29th, 2017 at 7:55 AM ^
He should come back and be a part of a special year.
December 29th, 2017 at 7:59 AM ^
that he'll be back.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:00 AM ^
...can often override the "sensible" thiing to do. He strikes me as an unconventional football player. A throwback. A purist. I think he returns for one more year. He wants one more shot at MSU and OSU.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:00 AM ^
With our luck, he's transferring to Bama.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:19 AM ^
Yo go wash out that potty mouth with soap right now, young man!
December 29th, 2017 at 3:47 PM ^
I also heard he was transferring to Bama, but is forgoing football to be a colorist at a hair salon.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:03 AM ^
Can he stay forever? What a great interview he is!! I hope he does stay, but I won't begrudge him a paycheck, either.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:08 AM ^
the interview gives the impression he's coming back. what he does in reality, who knows?
December 29th, 2017 at 9:36 AM ^
That clip was in response to a question asking what would be the pros of actually coming back. He also talked about how easy it is to get injured in the game of football and his dream of playing in the nfl.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:15 AM ^
Would love for him to stay, but if he can be drafted, I’d go. Make that money while you can. Football is too violent a sport to risk another year in college.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:52 AM ^
financially in Mo Hurst. Tenth pick in the draft makes roughly twice ($26.5M) what the 32nd pick makes ($13.5M) for the first 4 years.
End of 2nd round would be less than $5M.
December 29th, 2017 at 10:26 AM ^
True, but you have to factor in diminishing returns when you get to that level of money. Even assuming he can make that level of jump, say there's a 5% chance of injury or other circumtances that derail his draft grade if he comes back. If it were me, I would probably rather have a 100% chance at 13.5M than a 95% chance at 26.5M. If you invest reasonably, you're never really going to worry too much about money either way.
Obviously, I hope he comes back.
December 29th, 2017 at 11:36 AM ^
Also it is not a decision in a vacuum, he may go in the 2nd rd. This year and could slide more possibly with the new crop of talent that will be eligible next season
December 29th, 2017 at 11:52 AM ^
I hear the DE pool is deep this year. Although I'm not sure if that's where he's evaluated.
December 29th, 2017 at 3:58 PM ^
nor a sports agent. You should probably sell insurance.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:20 AM ^
I have a simple-minded approach to this - whatever Winovich decides is OK with me. With this coaching staff, I'm confident that they will give him the straight dope on his prospects if he enters the draft, what next year looks like at his position, etc.
And with umpteen players drafted last year, they can give him plenty of anecdotal advice too. I hope he stays, because I think next year could be special and he could play a major role in that. But so long as he makes an informed choice, it's the right choice by me.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:23 AM ^
I want Chase to come back, and I don't care what he thinks about it. He should listen only to me on this critical decision: come back Chase.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:26 AM ^
I don’t know when all this started to be about the players, I have just always assumed that my best interest was the controlling factor on issues like this.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:52 AM ^
That would be absurd. I am the center of the universe.
December 29th, 2017 at 9:41 AM ^
Isn't there an infinite number of universes? So you can each be the center of a universe.
December 29th, 2017 at 11:13 AM ^
But I am at the center of their collective universes
December 29th, 2017 at 8:24 AM ^
actually think he hasn’t announced yet because he doesn’t know. 8 tackles and 2 sacks in the Outback Bowl may convince him, and scouts, that now is the time.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:29 AM ^
to play in this game.
I’m tuning in for the orange hair.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:36 AM ^
...color TV. I actually grew up with a small B&W. Can still remember the day we got our first color TV. Probably about a 20" 4:3 screen!
December 29th, 2017 at 9:14 AM ^
At one point in the early / mid-80s, we had a 24" Zenith with a flip-down console for controlling the TV at the source, and the first thing this console did was come right off in my dad's hand, so for the nearly 15 years we had that TV (I took it to Michigan with me, as a matter of fact, not that I had far to travel in my case), you had to use the remote or you were stuck with whatever. In a warped way, it was ahead of its time because that's what would happen if we lost the remote to any TV in my house now.
December 29th, 2017 at 9:32 AM ^
That thing weighed 800 pounds...and probably cost that much as well.
December 29th, 2017 at 12:18 PM ^
Recall the dialing to get the channel right and the red reset button on the back to "reboot" the TV. Good thing there were only 4 channels and almost no programming - the TVs were awful.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:27 AM ^
He could make himself a boatload of money coming back next year, it would be a monster year for him with offenses focusing so much on stopping Gary.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:32 AM ^
Needs to stay and develop more. Late round pic mainly due to speed
December 29th, 2017 at 8:33 AM ^
Bolivia to you my friend. Dilly! Dilly!
December 29th, 2017 at 9:32 AM ^
This thread comes with a recent interview and from a poster that has shown he has some insight into the program.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:49 AM ^
I repeat myself from other threads.
I dont think he should go. He does not have the measurables to be a DE or OLB in the NFL. He is positionless in that sense. Which means he will likely be a late draft pick because he will be a project for whatever team takes him.
If he comes back, improves where he can and has a monster season he can increase his stock.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:51 AM ^
If he gets anything better than a Day 3 grade, I think he needs to go. I don't think he'll ever be a Day 1 guy, not because he isn't a great football player or doesn't work hard, but he doesn't have the prototypical size and athleticism that teams are looking for when using a first round pick on a DE. So if he grades out with a Day 2 selection, I think he needs to go and never look back.
Football is a violent sport, and your career could be over after one snap if you fall down or get tackled the wrong way. Go make your money while you can. Would love for him to stay, but if he can make himself some serious money by going to the draft this spring, I wouldn't blame him for one second if he left. In that situation, next man up.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:53 AM ^
How does he perform in the gym? I think his draft status would depend on how he performs in the combine.
I think he had a great year, he might be able to improve off of it, he might see is stats drop when Hurst leaves. all in all he's in the same boat next year as he is this year, middle to late rounds unless he blows up during the combine.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:53 AM ^
I don’t know what his draft stock is, but if it’s mid/late third round or later, it’s an easy decision to come back. If it’s first to mid/late second round then it’s an easy decision to leave. If it’s late second through mid/late third then you have a tough decision to make.
December 29th, 2017 at 8:55 AM ^
Didn't he mention a few days ago on here that he's likely staying?
December 29th, 2017 at 10:05 AM ^
I still think he stays.
December 29th, 2017 at 10:39 AM ^
Where is he at in the progression of his degree(s)?
December 29th, 2017 at 11:17 AM ^
He said stay* and then he said 60/40 which means he is torn, apparently.
December 29th, 2017 at 11:46 AM ^
Much closer than anticipated and still appears to be fluid.
