In proper yooper dialect, the correct pronuciation to the question, What is north of the UP?
"Es Canada, aye."
December 23rd, 2017 at 2:46 PM ^
I think proper is "eh" not "aye"

I visited the sou 20 some years ago and hung out with the natives. Oddly enough the whole area was settled by Italians. In Canada.....
Ayyyyyyy, how ya doin' eh?
They had "ehs " on both end of every sentence. True story.
December 23rd, 2017 at 4:59 PM ^
Didn’t the French get there first (among Europeans)? I mean, the name of the town is French.
Nowadays, yeah, Soo, ON is loaded with Italians.

Falls of the Saint Mary. Travelers by canoe had to come to shore and portage their canoe past the rapids to get to Lake Superior. Founded in 1662 by Catholic missionary Father Jacques Marquette.
The Soo is the oldest city in Michigan. My grandparents came over from Italy and settled in Sault Ste. Marie, no idea why.

Great enchiladas in Escalada.
December 23rd, 2017 at 1:48 PM ^
Yeah the spelling is wrong, but its MSU.
Making a difference from East Lansing up to Escanaba assumes they are not making a difference anywhere else, especially down towards Ann Arbor, or nationwide. Good when little brother admits his place.

Toys that help one perform sex like a horse.

we traded ohio for it. gave them toledo. talk about getting the best of the bargain.
December 23rd, 2017 at 1:03 PM ^
Ohio got Toledo; we got what is now the western half of the UP, and Wisconsin got nothing.
What a deal!
December 23rd, 2017 at 1:14 PM ^
Wisconsin got the Packers. BTW, except for the weather, northern Wisconsin is very unlike the UP. It's a huge vacation destination for people living in the Chicago area and has 10,000+ crystal clear lakes.
December 23rd, 2017 at 1:26 PM ^
they'd ruin the hunting and fishing. and what you call a 'lake', we call a pond. have some self respect!
December 23rd, 2017 at 4:16 PM ^
People from Chicago don't really know how to hunt or fish. But they're pretty good at spending money.
On amore serious note, being born & raised in Michigan, I was very surprised at the unique geology of northern Wisconsin. Just a huge number of spring fed lakes (big & small) and yes, lots of ponds too.
December 23rd, 2017 at 8:08 PM ^
yes, northern wisconsin is very unlike the U.P., as in, the U.P. is vastly superior. I've traveled both extensively. Northern Minnesota, I will concede, is as beautiful as the U.P.
December 23rd, 2017 at 1:32 PM ^
Michigan and Ohio fought a war over Toledo, Ohio lost and has held a grudge ever since
December 24th, 2017 at 9:57 PM ^
Ohio wanted Toledo. Actually, it was a good reason — they wanted the port of Toledo; otherwise, Michigan would have made all of the tax money from the port. Ohio was, and still is, a greedy bunch of [redacted].
