4* Muskegon OT Decommits From PSU
Four star offensive tackle Antwan Reed from Muskegon has decommitted from PSU. Reed was offered by UM as well as Georgia, Florida, VT, MSU and some others. He is 6-5, 326 and the 18th ranked offensive tackle; 51st overall player in the state.
I would like all of the tackles, please.

Edit: Appears 24/7 ranking may be in error as one commentor pointed out that he was previously in Florida. If he truly is a four star, he would be a top five or 10 player in the state.

He can’t be a four star and be 51st in Michigan. He’s rated a 90.
December 7th, 2017 at 8:52 PM ^
I think he was 51 in Florida, he was at IMG at one point.
December 7th, 2017 at 11:08 PM ^
Yeah pretty sure I was the 51st football player in the state and I played hockey
December 8th, 2017 at 11:11 AM ^
You don't even know if you played hockey? If you've had that many hits to the head, I promise you played hockey.
December 8th, 2017 at 11:18 AM ^
Try reading what he said again.
December 8th, 2017 at 11:54 AM ^
Don't be that dude, dude. Read the deliberate misunderstanding statement again. It's gold.
December 7th, 2017 at 8:49 PM ^
4-star and 51st ranked player in the state?
That's a lot of in-state talent.
December 7th, 2017 at 8:51 PM ^
That's like NCAA 2011 shit right there...

It was so easy to beat the recruiting system on those games. You could make a couple guys and adjust their attributes to where you wanted them and then make them poorly ranked kickers/punters and recruit them, get a commitment and change them to the spot you wanted them later.
December 7th, 2017 at 9:26 PM ^
That is one advantage OSU and PSU have over Michigan, both OSU and PSU are in football factory states.
December 7th, 2017 at 8:50 PM ^
Let’s see if we can get him here for the weekend - only a three hour drive to Muskegon!
December 7th, 2017 at 10:09 PM ^
It's not happening. He decommitted from Penn State because he couldn't qualify academically.
December 8th, 2017 at 10:41 AM ^
Well then... never mind.
December 7th, 2017 at 8:51 PM ^
It’s just weird. Clearly something is off. Rivals has him as the number 3 in MI.
December 7th, 2017 at 10:16 PM ^
He’s not even on the MI list.
But, damn, Wisconsin is recruiting really well in Michigan
December 8th, 2017 at 1:18 PM ^
Define "really well". They are recruiting a bunch of lower-ranked prospects who are mostly reporting offers from MAC or other schools that are clearly less attractive than Wisconsin.
December 8th, 2017 at 3:02 PM ^
with 5 of the top 20 guys from Michigan, but you're right, in a down year, they're all mid-level 3-stars, none with a Michigan offer, per 247.
Funny thing is, four of the five had MSU offers.

easily figure out what his state rank is: 4th.
Clearly his state ranking is a typo/database table misassignment.
December 7th, 2017 at 8:52 PM ^
Can someone explain to me how he’s a 4 star but 51st in the state? No chance there’s 50+ 4 stars in the state right now in the 2018 class
Edit: half th fan base beat me to that question
December 7th, 2017 at 8:51 PM ^
pretty sure we cooled on him and I wouldn't be surprised if PSU did as well, hence the decommitment.
December 7th, 2017 at 9:08 PM ^
May have more to do with PSU losing staff to MSST though I don't know who hooked him to begin with.
Interesting that he's scheduled to visit PSU tomorrow though.
December 7th, 2017 at 9:21 PM ^
Not the onlly explanation, of course, but 247 has a higher rated OT with a lot of CBs to PSU.
At 6'5" and 326, he is not built like a Greg Frey tackle. Maybe a guard prospect here. We could use one in this class.

Grades issue
December 7th, 2017 at 10:16 PM ^
take that FWIW. May be true, may be not.
West Michigan wasn't the typical place for PSU to get players. Now that I think of it, I can't think of a single PSU football players who came from West Michigan.
December 7th, 2017 at 10:26 PM ^
Zettel was from West Branch. Of course, that's northeast Michigan but does have "West" in the name.
December 7th, 2017 at 10:50 PM ^
I think both his parents are West Branch-lifers (his Dad, unfortunately, passed away very young at 46 a couple years ago). The family has owned a popular restaurant up there for like 20 years.
Zettel was definitely a steal for PSU. Happy to see him living the dream in the NFL now.
December 7th, 2017 at 10:59 PM ^
isn't it the Lumber Jack?
December 8th, 2017 at 8:17 AM ^
He could not crack the starting line up at img and then quit. I am guessing he lacks the motivation we are looking for.
December 8th, 2017 at 12:16 AM ^
but obviously did not in the end.
December 7th, 2017 at 8:57 PM ^
That looks like a typo on 247. With a composite score of 0.9049 he should be the 4th ranked player in the state in between Hutchinson and Hayes. 51st would be in 2-star range. Hopefully he's decomitting because he wants to go blue.
December 7th, 2017 at 9:14 PM ^
As stated above. He's still ranked the 51st player in the state of Florida. From his time at IMG.
December 7th, 2017 at 9:12 PM ^
remember many high school tackles end up moving inside
December 7th, 2017 at 9:17 PM ^
6'6" is tackle
6'5" is guard
These are all huge people. I hope they can move other people and/or get in the way really well, despite the one inch difference in height.
December 7th, 2017 at 9:19 PM ^
He’s also 326. He could do either potentially, depending on his feet etc etc
December 7th, 2017 at 10:56 PM ^
Having long arms is usually more important for the “tackle prototype” than being super tall. It just so happens that most super tall people have long arms.
December 7th, 2017 at 9:27 PM ^
Imagine what we could do with a decent line and decent qb...

Gimme gimme gimme
December 7th, 2017 at 9:30 PM ^
He's got huge reach and is very strong. If he got to 310 I think he would be an ideal tackle. I thought he was going to be slow & cumbersome watching him take the field but on the snap he moved real well. Muskegon plays a veer based spread offense that runs 90% of the time and he got upfield a lot better than I expected. If we can land him it's a take IMO. All the physical tools are there.
December 7th, 2017 at 9:42 PM ^
Muskegon grad here. The tea leaves suggest he may be MSU bound. MSU is going after Muskegon QB La'Darius Jefferson hard. Jefferson has won most of Michigan's high school player of the year awards.
I'm sure Reed and Jefferson would love playing together again. I just wish it would be in Ann Arbor instead if East Lansing.
December 7th, 2017 at 10:31 PM ^
MSU is done taking tackles.
December 7th, 2017 at 9:45 PM ^
We need some Muskegon dudes at Michigan...it's a football factory.
December 7th, 2017 at 10:02 PM ^
The book on Reed earlier in his career was that he had a lot of physical talent but took a lot of plays off. He transferred down to IMG Academy, but things didn't work out, and he came back to Muskegon. Whether it was the IMG experience or something else, he seems to have taken some steps forward physically, but more so mentally.

Muskegon's OL was something to behold this year. For a size comparison, here's how the Big Reds stacked up against an NFL team.
2017 Dallas Cowboys O-line (tackle-to-tackle)
6'5 320
6'2 302
6'4 320
6'4 310
6'4 315
Ave. 6'4 313
2017 Muskegon High School O-line
6'5 330 (Bradford)
6'0 250 (Johnson)
6'1 285 (Mills-Ellis)
6'2 304 (Cooper)
6'6 315 (Reed)
Ave 6' 3 297
Everyone save Reed returns next year for Muskegon

I mean, he might not make batteries or launch rockets (or have hair plugs) but I think he'd be more than welcomed by the Maize n' Blue faithful.
