Wiltfong Balz Michael Barrett to Michigan
Very shifty and fast dual QB and athlete whom we have recruited as a running back/returner. Only a 3* but looks a lot better than that... and we have been after him avidly for a while.

Does anyone have Wiltfong Balz senior highlights video? I assume he is a WR out of the Munich area, and probably knows Mo Wagner, but...

6'0 and 221, plus he runs a 4.43 40? Even if slightly exaggerated, yes please! Sounds like a tremendously versatile athlete that Michigan should easily be able to find a place for. We really could use a good kickoff guy. I wasn't impressed with anyone who tried it this season.

He doesn not run a 4.3. Here are his SPARQ results from this season.
NAME | GRAD YR. | POS | SCHOOL/STATE | HT | WT | 40 | SH | PB | VJ | RATING |
Barrett, Michael | 18 | QB | Lowndes - GA | 5-11 | 207 | 4.67 | 4.56 | 37 | 34.4 | 94.47 |

Not saying I was impressed with either Crawford or Thomas but we did get spoiled watching Peppers return kicks and punts. I think Thomas will get better, he's an electric enough athlete to be a great kick returner. Don't forget he was a true frosh.

No way he's coming to play QB. The leg whip on those throws looks like it's the bottom of the 7th and he's fixing to strike out the side.

Listed at 5'11.5" on 247. I never thought Harbaugh would recruit a QB that short. Makes me wonder if he is recruiting him more as an athlete.
December 5th, 2017 at 2:29 PM ^
but I don't tthink he other major schools are either. We offered in April. It's always been reported that was as a RB,. He's a versatile player who could easily move from there.
He's probably undrrated because he will be changing positions.

In the OP: " dual QB and athlete whom we have recruited as a running back/returner"
December 5th, 2017 at 2:14 PM ^
Wildcat QB could be an option (no pun intended).
December 5th, 2017 at 2:20 PM ^
Barrett is the type of player Meyer has made a living off of. I like the move to more versatile athletes...just land them and find the right fit.
December 5th, 2017 at 4:43 PM ^
Harbaugh has always looked for versatile athletes that can play multiple positions.
December 5th, 2017 at 2:33 PM ^
I would be all for this if we didn’t already have 2 rbs. Seems like with 5-6 spots left max that this wouldn’t make sense on our end.
December 5th, 2017 at 4:47 PM ^
He could end up anywhere, so I wouldn't worry about the RB classification at the moment. They'll move him around until he finds a home. Richard Sherman was a WR before Harbaugh, Gentry was a QB and now he's been a damn good TE for us. Hell, Brad Hawkins was a pretty good WR recruit who they moved to DB. Barrett won't play QB, that's all we really know.

This is from the front page.
Unless Michigan does get Chase they'll be swinging at a sleeper or two or trying to flip a guy late. Expect a three star you haven't heard of just yet, and maybe two.
Looks like Barrett fits what Brian was talking about.

Need more speed on this team. Meyer recruits a countless amount of those fast, shifty little bastards. Need a few guys of our own like that.
December 5th, 2017 at 2:48 PM ^
...that at the college level, dual-threat QBs make total sense. Defenses just can't account for everyone -- especially if the QB is a threat to run. My quarter says that Harbaugh is reluctantly coming to this same conclusion.
December 5th, 2017 at 3:19 PM ^
What gave it away, the fact that they lead the top teams every single year?
December 5th, 2017 at 4:46 PM ^
I don't think he's reluctantly coming to this...he likes QB who can move and made the most of of Colin K's abilities in SF.
December 5th, 2017 at 9:45 PM ^
without him, M might have won the game in October even with JOK at QB. A QB who can run is an asset at the college level, no doubt.

Coming on his official this weekend...

It's going to be cold.

Definitely underrated. Excellent athlete who can be an all purpose back and returner.
December 5th, 2017 at 3:11 PM ^
I hope this happens. I like Barrett, and he's a guy who could be your Wildcat QB like Peppers was. He's an X-factor type of guy.
December 5th, 2017 at 5:56 PM ^
is he can mimic opposing dual threat QB's in practice when need be.
December 5th, 2017 at 10:18 PM ^
His tape suggests he’s good at football. FS on defense and mix in some wildcat? Do you think he’s a take or a wait and see?
December 6th, 2017 at 7:38 AM ^
I would think he would be a take, but that's just my opinion. He's an "ATH" who can play multiple spots, so I would think Michigan could take him without sacrificing much depth at other spots.
December 5th, 2017 at 3:18 PM ^
Can he play safety?
December 5th, 2017 at 3:35 PM ^
A dual QB named Barrett you say?
Hmmmmm . . .
December 5th, 2017 at 4:06 PM ^
Hey now you guys will know how it feels for your fanbase to have unreasonably high expectations for a Barrett
December 6th, 2017 at 1:36 AM ^
I just hope our Barrett beats his big rival four fucking years in a row too.
December 6th, 2017 at 8:10 AM ^
He got knocked out of two of those games and they still won.
December 6th, 2017 at 8:27 AM ^
OK, now you're just being mean.
December 5th, 2017 at 3:38 PM ^
Breaston was a QB in high school too.
UM needs an electric returner. This guy may be it.
December 5th, 2017 at 5:43 PM ^
Barrett's not anything like Breaston.
December 5th, 2017 at 3:54 PM ^
Might need about 10 on the roster at the rate UM loses them to injuries.
