The deal still awaits approval from ASU president, Michael Crow.
This seems like a done deal.
Anderson got a contract extension to 2019.

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!! HELLOOOOO!!
November 30th, 2017 at 9:08 AM ^
"You play to win the game" will be ASU's version of "This is Michigan" from the Brady Hoke years.
November 30th, 2017 at 10:50 AM ^
It's the ASU version of "we had a great week of practice."
November 30th, 2017 at 8:50 AM ^
Good for Rich Rod
November 30th, 2017 at 8:51 AM ^
Nuts and a horrible move. Cannot see anyway this won't be a disaster.
November 30th, 2017 at 8:51 AM ^
forks up!
November 30th, 2017 at 11:22 AM ^
don't see this working out...
in the end Edwards will be left in Siberia !
November 30th, 2017 at 12:49 PM ^
He'll have Ray Anderson with him.
November 30th, 2017 at 1:11 PM ^
So I guess he's on his way to Siberia.
November 30th, 2017 at 8:54 AM ^
This will go well. Just ask Lovie Smith.
November 30th, 2017 at 9:00 AM ^
at least Lovie Smith coached for a few years in college and stayed in the game. It doesn't look like Illinois is going to work out for him, but it's not like he took a studio job and then decided to be a figure head. Herm Edwards is essentially Joe Paterno the last 10 years of his career (coaching wise, not child sex abuse scandal wise).
November 30th, 2017 at 9:17 AM ^
Lol how is there any similarity between Edwards and Paterno???
November 30th, 2017 at 9:27 AM ^
Because Paterno didn't coach in the last decade of his tenure, he was simply a figurehead. It's in the post. And Herm isn't going to bring in a new staff, so he's basically leaving everything as is (except him as HC of course).
November 30th, 2017 at 9:30 AM ^
The figurehead coach until they can find a better one, got it.
November 30th, 2017 at 10:34 AM ^
IndyBlue gets it! +1 for you sir!
November 30th, 2017 at 11:23 AM ^
the last few years JoePa was basically just a bottlehead
November 30th, 2017 at 1:04 PM ^
I've heard people called jarheads. Bottleheads is a new one for me.
November 30th, 2017 at 12:53 PM ^
Meh. I hear you, but the similarites are almost non-existant:
-Paterno may not have been involved, but he was at least around the college game. Edwards was doing TV shows.
-Even if both defer to their assitants, Paterno picked his assistants. Edwards inherited them.
-Paterno more or less reached the top of the game and then rode it out. Edwards has literally no accomplishments.
-Paterno...need I say more??

If Herm is the HC, but he's leaving all the coaches in place, then isn't he just coaching one day a week? If that's the case, can Harbaugh get a gig like that with the Lions? Coach us Sunday-Saturday and the Lions on Sunday?
November 30th, 2017 at 12:13 PM ^
ASU’s in much better shape than Illinois was.
November 30th, 2017 at 8:55 AM ^
Herm hasn't coached ANYWHERE since 2008. This will not go well.
November 30th, 2017 at 8:57 AM ^
He's coached in some of the college all star games and I think he's the type of guy who could make this work. I don't love it, but when your ASU... give it a shot.
November 30th, 2017 at 9:42 AM ^
I agree man. U never knoe until u try. I am more curious to see how his attitude works with younger players. He has been around the NFL so long it might take him some time to adjust to these younger players. Also I don't think the Lovie Smith bashing is really fair. I mean he is coaching at Illinois so what do you honestly expect? He could build them back up u never know. Also ASU has some good players on their team and they always land really good JUCO players.
November 30th, 2017 at 12:15 PM ^
Coached some high school all-American games too. I think there’s potential there of a Pac-12 championship.

looks like someone forgot to turn on Ghetto Translate® . . .
November 30th, 2017 at 1:05 PM ^
Anyone else I could think of who succeeded after a 10 year absence. Only name I came up with was Dick Vermeil. It was 15 years between gigs with the Eagles and the Rams.
November 30th, 2017 at 8:55 AM ^
What the hell.......
November 30th, 2017 at 12:16 PM ^
use to be Herm's agent.
November 30th, 2017 at 9:03 AM ^
Ahhhh... Remember when men could just be men? Those were the days...

ran great as well
November 30th, 2017 at 12:57 PM ^
Glenn Miller played. Songs that made the hit parade. Guys like us we had it made...
November 30th, 2017 at 10:04 AM ^
Matt Lauer agrees.
too soon?

November 30th, 2017 at 9:22 AM ^
In 10 years, when Herm is of no use, he will pay dearly for his actions.
November 30th, 2017 at 8:58 AM ^
They should have hired someone who is younger and has a long career ahead of him and more proven potential, like Mike Riley.
November 30th, 2017 at 9:00 AM ^
This is going to be a complete disaster. Looking forward to Herm and the AD getting S-Canned in two years.
November 30th, 2017 at 9:59 AM ^
I don't celebrate people getting fired (usually)...I am just expecting it, in this case.
November 30th, 2017 at 9:01 AM ^
The best advice I've ever heard from a famous person on TV was from Herm - it was "don't hit send" on tweets/texts/messages from trolls/detractors. Type out the message to let it out, then delete and don't hit send.
November 30th, 2017 at 9:14 AM ^
This is what I kept thinking of when his name kept coming up for the ASU job. Dadada dadada (ESPN jingle)
Herm used to have great life advice for the NFL rookies. I could see him as a great mentor in some young men’s lives.
As a football coach, this will be ugly...
November 30th, 2017 at 10:05 AM ^
He’s got YouTube videos of when he addressed the NFL rookies. Those were absolutely tremendous.
November 30th, 2017 at 10:17 AM ^
Those are great, if nothing else Herm will at least being able to bring positive influence to a bunch of young men as they grow into adulthood. For that reason I love this hire. But if I were an ASU fan that was invested in the program itself I wouldnt be too please.
November 30th, 2017 at 11:15 AM ^
should have been Dave Brandon's life coach....
November 30th, 2017 at 9:03 AM ^
here.
November 30th, 2017 at 9:07 AM ^
Surreal to say the least. Maybe he does a good job. Then again the chances are not good and IMO this hire is clown show stuff. Then again who cares about asu anyways. It would be more fun if he was hired by osu, but I could'nt hate on Herm like I do Meyer. Taking Meyer down is much more fun. Oh ya I forgot we have to get by that officiating thing.
November 30th, 2017 at 9:11 AM ^
The best thing about this move, even more than its transparent idiocy, is I don't have to hear Herm Edwards's "analysis" on Sundays. Based on that alone, I approve wholeheartedly.
ASU has a new head coach whose primary attributes are the ability to speak loudly and glower. Hired by an AD who used to be Edwards's agent? Who has no meaningful contacts in the recruiting world?
Good luck with that, Sun Devils. Good luck.
November 30th, 2017 at 9:16 AM ^
job to avoid a pink slip at ESPN.
November 30th, 2017 at 9:26 AM ^
Another round of cuts at ESPN, his name certainly could have been on the list....
November 30th, 2017 at 11:39 AM ^
It's about why he's being offered the job. I'm guessing he's making more money at ASU, so it makes sense he would take it (and coaching football reasons). But why in the world would anyone think this was a good idea to hire him? So many better candidates/coordinators out there that would take the job....
