Which B1G coach do other coaches want to see hired outside the conference?

Submitted by jamesjosephharbaugh on
The Moorhead news made me wonder if the coaches are as excited to see him gone as we are. Then I thought, if you were a football coach anywhere in the Big Ten, which other coach are you hoping gets hired away from the conference? Excluding head coaches, I gotta think Moorhead is up there, Don Brown, Schiano?

Michigan's defense will always be better than osu'swhether schiano stays and whether he keeps peeking in showers or not.

Michigan needs to get there QB and O-line play up to Harbaugh's standards and I don't care who is coaching the other teams. Bottom line is we will win because our defense will be better next year.

We have a huge advantage allready IMO so the offense once again and even more so will decide whether Michigan wins the big ten and a NC. Yes gentlemen the defense will be that good. Upgrades at safety and linebacker with more size, speed and experience across the board.

Yes barring injuries Michigan should win the NC IMO. They will be ranked in the top five to start the season, but I hope they are not. QB inexperience could knock us down but I have a feeling. I want to see where we rank compared to osu, but I think we are better. They lose some o and d lineman and linebackers. Love to see some more attrition with guys leaving early but they don't have the talent this year like they did.

Winovich you need to come back for the run. They need to switch Gary to the weak side so he can crush QB's without all the run responsibility's. If not look for Villain on the weak side and Gary getting doubled and having to contain. Either way we got you, but winovich needs to come back.

Uhhh... Nick Holt, Purdue DC.

That team could be problematic in a couple years.

Kevin Wilson can go too. OSU's offense with Haskins at the helm gives me nightmares already.

I was hoping schiano to Tennessee before it happened. I would like to see every coach on the osu staff to leave. I hate them all and want them out. But instead of wondering who we want out I'm interested in who harbaugh brings in to help make the offense better

And considering how much OSU falls up in recent history (Wilson, Schiano... kind of an extension of replacing Tressel with Meyer), which displaced head coach would they land to replace them? Super recruiter Mora? Sumlin? With their deal with the devil luck, they wouldn't replace anyone with "champions in life" Butch or the shark lover McElwain. I'd be okay if they stick with the known commodities.

and they tear themselves apart.  Consider if we had beaten OSU 13 out of 15 times.  They would be on a head coach & staff every other year I bet.

The beatings have already started, we just didn't quite get there the last 2 seasons.  But the road is being paved albeit with bricks that are set slowly and carefully.

His IU smash mouth air raid offense gave us many fits over the years, Schiano, too maybe, but let's be real, Urb is a great coach and would very well hire a great DC to replace him (and OC for Wilson) . That being said, Ohio State has had it's share of blowout losses and defensive lapses these past two years.

For an example closer to home, when Durkin left I don't know how many people would have thought that his replacement would be this much better.

I look at it this way. Don Brown is clearly the best DC in the conference. Schiano is next... Kevin Wilson (especially now that JM is gone) is probably the best OC in the conference. This isn't by mistake. These are guys who have immediate HC aspirations and they figure that working for Meyer is their fastest ticket. When those assholes leave, hell just pick some equally good replacements from a pile of applications. We have to match it

Hell, I could replace Urban Meyer at OSU and they would still be good. It's pretty easy to win lots of games when you have multiple 1st round NFL picks on your team year after year. I don't know a trap from a draw and I am confident I could "coach" OSU (ala Paterno in the press box with no headphones) to 9 wins a season.

I am still amazed that John Cooper lasted at OSU as long as he did with the mediocre results he put up through much of his tenure. He wouldn't last 4 years at OSU these days.

Cooper was 111-43-4 at OSU. He was 2-10-1 against UM. His overall win-loss ratio is very similar to harbaugh's at Michigan's (28-10). Cooper looks to have been a good coach - it was the 2-10 against us that got him fired.

I agree. He wouldn't last 4 years at OSU these days.

Most of Cooper's losses at OSU came at the very beginning and very end of his tenure. In between he usually had them going into the M game with 9 or 10 wins and a top-10 ranking. I know OSU people were frustrated with his record against Michigan but I don't know if they'd have for sure fired him if not for those terrible Steve Bellisari seasons at the end.

Probably Kevin Wilson.  Meyer's offenses have been limited at times because he sucks at developing comptent passers.  With Wilson that could change.

in 3 years at Wisconsin and they just keep rolling.  Aranda, Wilcox, now Leonhard.  Seems like they'd find another if Leonhard moved along, but he seems like a guy that would stay in that same position for 10 years waiting to take over for Chryst.

The strangest thing about Wisconsin's staff that is that virtually all of them either played for Wisconsin or have long ties to the program through other means. You do not see a lot of programs nowadays where the staff is full of home-grown talent to the same level as Wisconsin. That alone makes for an interesting football culture in Madison, to say the least.

I'd like to see entire Purdue's defensive staff charged, tried, and convicted for conspiracy to commit assault and battery and/or attempted murder.

We're on an even field with them.  Just went toe to toe to the wire without a viable QB, one WR worth covering, an OL still in re-work, and the least experienced roster in the world by 3 country miles.

Buncha'shit happened the last couple of years, but Harbaugh has the boys playing level with them despite some officiating shenanigans.

Brian put it pretty well in his Gravestone post from Monday that lately, whenever Michigan is playing a close game with OSU, that means that the team is playing above it's head. We're not on an even field with them.

If we were we wouldn't be losing 15 of the last 17 tries. Meyer wouldn't be a perfect 6-0.

Brian gets a lot right, but I can form my own opinions, as well.  Besides, I didn't get that message from Gravestone.

What I've seen on the field the last two years are teams that were, more or less, equal.  Last year was straight up - if not slanted in our favor but for officiating.

This year, we had a lot of crap going on and should not have been competitive against them.  However, I saw a Michigan offense that ran the ball decently, and threw for 195 yards - despite some abysmal QB play.  Defensively, they held up well until Haskins came in and changed the dynamic.  But give us solid QB play, I'm not sure Haskins makes such a difference.  I was very encouraged with that performance given where this team started and the injuries it had to work through.

Separate 2015 and back from 2016 and 2017 and you should see a different message.  Losses suck, but we were legitimately competitive in the last two games - on an even field.  And I don't see any reason we won't be again in the next several games...
