Freshman OL JaRaymond Hall transferring
November 28th, 2017 at 9:43 PM ^
Well that is not good to hear.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:29 PM ^
Could cause a depth issue, but if as bad as it was this year he couldn't see the field, and wasn't being intentionally redshirted, it's not bad for his spot to go to a grad transfer or to roll the dice on another one in the incoming class.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:49 PM ^
It would have been surprising if they hadn't. Hall was considered the furthest away from seeing the field when they signed.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:43 PM ^
Angry Michigan Offensive Tackle Hating God is going to have to be a thing. Taylor Lewan must've pissed off the gods when he left.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:46 PM ^
He was a guard
November 28th, 2017 at 10:22 PM ^
Never saw it mentioned anywhere he was a guard. Was recruited as a tackle and Brian even mentions him as an option at tackle on the front page post.
So fuck me for not being a mind reader, I guess.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:36 PM ^
Listed as OG, not OT. He played Tackle in high school, but that usually just means he's one of the the 2 best offensive linemen on the team.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:49 PM ^
Doesn't have footwork to play that position in Div 1. Good luck to him.
Guard is a well populated position.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:45 PM ^
Best of luck to the young man.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:46 PM ^
Wow, the hits just keep coming smh.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:52 PM ^
This is normal attrition at the end of the season. We should expect more after exit interviews.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:55 PM ^
This one seems rather unexpected but it looks like people did expect it judging by other posts.
Conditioned to feel anything OL related with transferring = bad.
Nvm then.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:08 PM ^
That is not normal attrition and it’s Hard to see this as anything other than a recruiting miss.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:12 PM ^
This is the new world. The team recruits guys. Some of them aren't gold strikes. Some of those guys transfer or aren't brought back for a fifth year. Result: More recruits, more chances to find the right guy, more bullets in the chamber.
Harbaugh has been doing this since he got here. So has the rest of elite college football. Nobody, not Bama, not OSU, not USC, nobody sees all of their recruits stick around to "see what happens" in a hypothetical redshirt junior or senior year. Not anymore.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:13 PM ^
Someone who leads a miserable existence would probably see it that way.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:20 PM ^
I believe Brian has previously pegged “normal” attrition at about three guys per year. So far we have lost Nate Johnson, Mbem-Bosse, and Hall. Each of those losses could easily be attributable to depth chart/path-to-playing-time issues. Doesn’t seem problematic to me.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:25 PM ^
from the team for disciplinary issues
November 28th, 2017 at 10:43 PM ^
Oh, that’s right. I am on some cold meds so I should probably just stop posting for the night.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:29 PM ^
Keith Washington left.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:37 PM ^
Umbig11 posted yesterday that Mbem-Bosse was no longer with the team.
I did forget Washington; that would make four, so perhaps we are exceeding normal levels after all.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:47 PM ^
Posters on 247 are saying it is for personal reasons and he will play closer to home most likely.
November 29th, 2017 at 12:05 AM ^
He’s from Oak Park.
November 29th, 2017 at 12:18 AM ^
Not Hall, Mbem-Bosse.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:44 PM ^
Why do you have to look at everything in negitive?
It could be that the young lineman are good and he knows he will he list on the depth chart. This would mean they hit on several of his classmates.
Or maybe the coaches see him at guard and he want to play on the outside.
Either way, it does not mean he is a bust or recruiting miss.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:54 PM ^
I have a different view than most from doing rosters so I study way more teams than just Michigan. This is normal. Dude was a stud in HS and came into the program thinking he would start right away. Found out he wasn't even close to starting and wanted a different route. This happens at every school. I honestly think this happens less at Michigan but if we want to start playing for championships it's going to happen more.
It was also said he wanted to leave a long time go.
Also don't be surprised if we lose a 5+ plus guys beyond this. Some guy said we might lose a TE too my guess is Wheatley Jr but we shall see.
November 28th, 2017 at 11:26 PM ^
I think bunting goes before Wheatley.
November 29th, 2017 at 8:55 AM ^
It will be Bunting yes
November 28th, 2017 at 10:12 PM ^
Definitely not normal attrition.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:22 PM ^
Not really that bad. We have Onwenu, Bredeson, Ruiz, Spanellis etc. who have proven to be pretty good. This allows us to have another slot to add a recruit.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:29 PM ^
If the young man wasn't good enough to break into the two deep of this years line, and most Importantly next years line, it is best for both parties for him to take other opportunities. Good luck my man.
November 29th, 2017 at 5:38 AM ^
The kid was a freshman. You have to be absolutely stellar and well ahead of your years for Harbaugh to take the redshirt off if you’re a QB or an OL. I don’t see a freshman lineman (who came in underweight at 282 lbs) redshirting is indicative of his talent at all.
November 29th, 2017 at 8:24 AM ^
Freshman.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:46 PM ^
Need some umbig11 insight on this one...
November 28th, 2017 at 9:48 PM ^
I have a feeling that he was going to be far down on the depth chart. Michigan doesn't exactly have a shortage of interior offensive linemen.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:00 PM ^
He's underweight and behind Bredeson, Onwenu, Spanellis, Runyan, Ruiz, Honigford, Filiaga...not great PT prospects. Hope he lefts on good terms and finds a good spot.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:49 PM ^
for playing time and might transer to a MAC type school or something, opens up more spots I say!
November 28th, 2017 at 9:59 PM ^
Were Iowa St. and Arizona.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:07 PM ^
He won't be in the MAC. It says in the link maybe Iowa State or Arizona. And I'm sure there will be plenty of suitors above the MAC level.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:50 PM ^
On the depth chart. He was also massively underweight for a BIG OG. Best of luck to the young man. Michigan needs OT’s in a bad way.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:50 PM ^
ugh. I know everyone thinks we are fine on the interior with Bredeson and Onewenu, but once those two are gone, we are going to be awfully thin/young again. one of the reasons I thought losing EE was a bigger deal than some others here did.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:53 PM ^
Those guys have two years of eligibility left, and neither one is close to considering an early departure to the NFL.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:15 PM ^
Two years is nothing when we are talking about their replacements being kids still in HS.
November 29th, 2017 at 12:09 AM ^
Has a four star UM can borrow.
November 29th, 2017 at 5:43 AM ^
They’re not. They’re freshmen on this year’s team.
When you’re talking about not having replacements for guys who are currently sophomores, you need to take a chill pill and relax. They’re going to be fine.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:55 PM ^
In last years class were OG’s he was the biggest project out them all. Michigan has like 6 freshmen on the interior
November 28th, 2017 at 10:19 PM ^
Steuber and Honigford are OGs? I understand Filiaga is probably going to be an OG but pretty sure the other two are OTs and Ruiz is our future at OC. So that leaves us with a 4th year Filiaga and a 5th year Spanellis in 2020, along with a bunch of younger guys. With no OGs currently in this class, we would once again be counting on 2nd year players if something happens to any of the above mentioned OGs. I think we saw this year that relying on second year OL is not ideal.
November 28th, 2017 at 10:42 PM ^
We're going to have more tackles than guards by a fair margin next season, and a couple of those guards could possibly move outside if needed. Perhaps losing Hall will lead to us taking an interior OL in this class.
November 29th, 2017 at 7:26 AM ^
can play guard or tackle
Hayes is definitely a tackle
November 29th, 2017 at 5:41 AM ^
They’re going to be juniors... meaning we have all of this offseason, all of next season, all of the season after, and the offseason after that to find/groom new guards. I think we’re be alright chicken little.
November 28th, 2017 at 9:51 PM ^
Maybe I'm just forgetting previous years but is it normal for all the transfer announcements to happen before the season is completely over?
