Possible Pep Hamilton Replacements
Since I'll never be accused of being productive on the Monday after a 4-day weekend, I'll go ahead and start the discussion off with these possible Pep Hamilton replacements, if he goes:
- Jedd Fisch
- Tyrone Wheatley
- None - Drevno & Harbaugh fill in, we hire a possible WR or RB coach

In his two years at Toledo, they've finished top 10 in total offense both times, and averaged over 500 ypg both times.
They put up 429 yards on this year's U-Miami D.
We really need to recruit more in Ohio, and he will have connections with schools there from both his time in Toledo and his offensive-record-setting time at Youngstown State.
Maybe he's not what Jim's looking for, but it's worth at least having a sit-down and seeing if they gel.

I dig that Maize and Blue tie, too.
Just sayin'

Dont know him but like everything you just said

The tie is nice, and he may well be a great candidate as OC. Somewhere else.
I don't ever see Harbuagh turning over his offense to some guy from the G5 that wants to run some version of a college spread. Maybe he comes in as something other than a coordinator to help innovate the Harbaughffense a little? That would be the only way, IMO...
Nice find from the hinterlands, though!

I hear you, hence the "maybe he's not what Jim's looking for."
But at some level, football is football, and Jim was already talking about working spread concepts into our pro style game before this past season.
Sometimes, you just say, "ok, who has had the most success recently, and let's sit down with him and see if we think it'll translate here too."
That actually sounds a lot like how we first began sniffing out Don Brown, whom I think is the best coordinator hire I can remember at any school during my lifetime.

Besides, it beats the whole, "here's a guy who was leading a league-worst unit at one of the worst institutions in the history of professional sports... maybe he can run our neediest unit too!"
Pep seems like a very, very nice guy.
Don Brown seems like he could rip the guys arms off and use them to beat him to death before he's done bleeding out from the arm injuries.
And that's not a bad analogical picture for the corresponding qualities of their two units...

Having a drunken OC with an overdeveloped sense of entitement would be kinda fun...

He said "drop the ball." Should have been sufficient.

I am pushing for Shep Mammalton. Or maybe Ned Flesch? Part of me really wants to Jim Frevno in the job.

Tim Drevno our offensive coordinator? Are he and Pep Hamilton co-offensive coordinators? Or is Pep just the QB coach with a fancy title? I ask this because, if Drevno is Michigan's offensive coordinator, than we don't need anybody to replace Pep Hamilton because we already have an OC. If Drevno can't be an OC because he cannot "coordinate" the passing game, than we need an OC who can do the entire job and Drevno should be out too. We have too many cooks in the kitchen. We should not need a passing game coordinator as well as an offensive coordinator. I don't know whether we are doing it out of necessity because Drevno can't be an "entire" offensive coordinator or just to be super-cool, but I think Harbaugh should re-think his entire approach to offensive staffing.

This is an example of the narrative and confirmation bias. We know play calling and game planning is a team effort. We know that JH has the final say. When the offense was gelling the last couple seasons everyone praised Jim's inclusive style. UM hits personnel/youth/injury related adversity and the offense struggles and now everyone criticizes the coordinators and wants a micro managing dictator ala Don Brown. I'm fine either way, but it is idiotic to draw conclusions going into this year and especially with what has transpired.

Who is the Don Brown of offensive coordinators? Sometime coordinating at a mid tier school where his side of the ball is playing lights out, but the team keeps losing 55-47.
November 27th, 2017 at 12:02 PM ^
you just described every offensive coordinator in the B12 (non-Kansas edition).
November 27th, 2017 at 12:21 PM ^
Was going to say the same thing. Pretty much any B12 school.
Maybe we go Mike Leach if he's fired.

I like this train of thought. Someone who is running a great offense somewhere under the radar who would be happy to spend 5-7 years here to finish out his career.

Graham Harrell - UNT OC
Joe Craddock - SMU OC
Matt Kubik - ULM OC
Eric Morris - Texas Tech OC
November 27th, 2017 at 2:26 PM ^
Chad Morris is pretty much the OC for SMU.
Hard pass on anyone on the TT coaching staff, that team has been a disaster and the offense has been shit this year.

whos the dude the coached colorado state but has something bad in his background? Stitt? That guy.
November 27th, 2017 at 12:04 PM ^
He was OC at Harvard, then HC at Colorado School of Mines, then HC at Montana. Just fired this year for losing to Montana State twice and missing the playoffs twice. He was very good at CSM but couldn't steer a pretty damn stellar ship at Montana. That's everything I know about Stitt.

Hire Fisch as the sole OC. And pick up a WR coach. And how about a RB coach that has actually played the position before (cough MIke Hart cough).
Collect underpants.
Profit.

There might be some, uh, bad blood between Hart and Harbaugh:
"That’s a guy I have no respect for. When you graduate from the University of Michigan and you’re going to talk about your school like that, a great institution like that we have, to say we’re not true student athletes. It’s coming from a guy who, I don’t know, maybe wants to coach here, and is mad he didn’t get a job here. A guy like that I have no respect for. It’s funny to me, because we don’t let great student-athletes in, but he just accepted one of our transfers. What kind of sense does that make? He obviously wants guys like us at his school and he’s mad he can’t get them. It’s nothing against Stanford. I just have no respect for that guy. I don’t know how you can say that. He’s not a Michigan man. I obviously wish he never played here before." - Mike Hart on Jim Harbaugh
November 27th, 2017 at 12:48 PM ^
It's time to kiss and make up. For the good of the school.
Harbaugh was persona non grata around these parts for a long time too.

Plus, I would love to see him agitate Dantonio
November 27th, 2017 at 2:26 PM ^
yep... give him the job just for that alone...
getting under Dantonio's and the sparty fanbase skin would be great....
I do actually think he could do a better job than Jay however..
