The State Of Our Open Threads: After Ohio State

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

I'll just put this up now, although many of you may not care at this point. Of course, I don't care that you don't care, so we're going to wad through the data anyway because analysis is how I grieve, damnit.

I'll get this part out of the way - we actually set a single game record for giving fucks at 810, which actually breaks the previous record, set during last year's Ohio State game, by about 20 fucks. I suppose in that respect, I want to congratulate the blog for expressing something I knew we were thinking. Actually, it could have been more - this is adjusted for posts which would have inordinately run up the total (i.e., the post with almost 300 fucks in it). After all, the last thing anyone wants is a skewed fuck.

You can always tell how stressful an experience we're having as a fanbase when we go straight to "fuck". That is to say, the number of shits we gave was far less than expected in a game like this. Against MSU, for example, we gave 233 shits, against Wisconsin, we gave 168 and then during the Purdue game, we managed 154 shits. Yesterday, we gave 145, which is fifth best for the year.

There were some surprising results as well - no, setting a "fuck" record did not shock me this time around, if that's what you mean.

Anyway, there were only 23 instances of "fire", and roughly a quarter of them were surrounding the "lack of fire" people were noticing about the team. Most of the rest involved the coaching staff, with some Drevno and Hamilton wishes and a few crazy bastards calling for Harbaugh's head, perhaps forgetting all that we have endured as a fanbase over the better part of a decade now.

There was even less "suck" than last week as well, which was interesting, but then you listen to the postgame banter from people and understand that a fair number of people thought the gameplan was good enough to win, and all of the "suck" was pretty much directed at John O'Korn. Of course, some of those people took that to his personal social media accounts, and those people "suck".

So, what did the stress look like once charted?

After all was said and done, this actually wasn't even the most efficient game we had from a profanity standpoint - we tipped the scales this season during MSU with 1.82. The Ohio State game topped out at 1.97, making it the second most efficient effort at 1,287 tracked instances across 2,539 total posts.

Sometime in the next few weeks, I'll do a retrospective of "fuck" on MGoBlog and a summary of the first three seasons of Harbaugh. Until then, have a beer, but not on me because I still have Christmas shopping to do.

We're gonna believe in each other, we're not gonna criticize each other, we're not gonna talk about each other, we're gonna encourage each other. And when we play as a team, when the old season is over, you and I know, it's gonna be Michigan again, Michigan.
