Rumor: REM playing halftime of The Game
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:33 PM ^
I find it kinda funny. I find it kinda sad.
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:37 PM ^
the dreams in which you're dying are the best you ever had
I don't think thats REM, I think its Gary Jules
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:42 PM ^
All I know is when people run in circles it's a very very mad world.
Edit: Damn you're right. YouTube deceived me. Everybody hurts sometimes.

If you believe
they put a man on the moon

You should DELETE your initial comment.
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:52 PM ^
I think the original is Tears for Fears.
November 23rd, 2017 at 10:42 PM ^
yep, tears for fears definitely wrote the original mad world
November 24th, 2017 at 8:09 AM ^
Tears for Fears is the original--much different sound than the Gary Jules version, which is I think more famous (it was in Donnie Darko).
November 24th, 2017 at 12:21 AM ^
The best of both Mad Worlds:
November 24th, 2017 at 11:17 AM ^
why is there no ability to delete your own comments?
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:49 PM ^
It's the end of the world as we know it
November 23rd, 2017 at 10:48 PM ^
Do you feel fine?
November 23rd, 2017 at 10:11 PM ^
.. I´m sure it's not REM.
November 24th, 2017 at 2:52 AM ^
REM Donnie Darko style except it’s not REM sooooooo
November 23rd, 2017 at 11:17 PM ^
Automatic For The People. Meloncholy, but very good album.
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:35 PM ^
Personally I hate halftime cause I'm impatient. I love the band during the game. At halftime I don't care and I don't care for rem unless it's the sleep kind. And no I haven't heard this yet.
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:38 PM ^
REM is retired. Period. You really think a college football game is going to get one of the world's greatest walked-away-from-it-all bands to come out of retirement, when they've been explicitly clear that they're done, and have absolutely no connection whatsoever to the University of Michigan?
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:40 PM ^
You're such a pretentious ass
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:44 PM ^
Sorry, huge REM fan here. REM broke up in 2011. They were crystal clear about the fact that they were very happy to be done. They've done absolutely nothing since. Not even a rumor of restarting the band. Anybody who is a fan of REM would know that.
I don't know how it's being pretentious to shut down a "rumor" before it even starts, because the entire premise behind said "rumor" is absurd. REM is not going to show up out of the blue to play a 5-minute set during halftime of a Michigan football game in 2017.
November 23rd, 2017 at 10:06 PM ^
that could even remotely be a possibility (and not saying it is, cuz it ain't) is the University of Georgia, where they were all students when they founded the band.
November 23rd, 2017 at 10:50 PM ^
If Georgia was playing in the NC, then maybe...
November 24th, 2017 at 1:55 PM ^
but it would be the only remotely reasonable school to even entertain such a rumor. but it will never happen, even in that scenario.
November 23rd, 2017 at 11:06 PM ^
The idea that a band as big as them would play a one-off show at halftime of a college game would be pretty ridiculous even if they weren't retired.
November 24th, 2017 at 12:41 AM ^
Right. And given the logistics of doing this sort of thing, it would be well-known by now, not to mention promoted heavily by Michigan.
The OSU band is probably playing some REM songs in its halftime set.
This is a good example of how rumors can mutate and spread, though.

I just googled that and the first link was to this post, so it must be true
November 24th, 2017 at 9:36 AM ^
How is this pretentious?
November 24th, 2017 at 9:46 AM ^
And right with relevant facts to back it up.
November 24th, 2017 at 9:49 AM ^
I'll take the pretentious ass over the ordinary ass.
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:45 PM ^
this, plus scott mccaughey had a stroke last week so....it ain't happening
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:39 PM ^
Don’t really understand why they would be performing at this game though. Seems kinda irrelevant.
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:41 PM ^
My roommate at UofM used to usher for concerts at Crisler Arena. I don't think he got paid for this, but he got in the door for free and saw a lot of live music. When REM played there in the mid-90's they needed a few extra ushers so I volunteered. I basically had to hold a flashlight for a couple hours. It was a pretty good show.
I think they should leave halftime to the bands, but I suppose one game a year can't hurt.
November 24th, 2017 at 6:36 AM ^
They played Hill auditorium.
November 24th, 2017 at 6:40 AM ^
Wait no thinking of someone else
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:41 PM ^
It's the end of the world as we know it. And I feel fine?
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:43 PM ^
I remember before social media when people would gossip and bullshit each other in the privacy of their own homes and it wouldn’t become a news headline.
November 24th, 2017 at 12:35 AM ^
look how much more fun this is
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:43 PM ^
Why would OSU folks be insiders on the halftime entertainment at Michigan Stadium? Maybe if the game was in Columbus...
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:44 PM ^
Losing My Religion would probably be fitting at halftime.
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:46 PM ^
I think you (or your "Buckeye Friend") are making shit up.
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:48 PM ^
Perhaps it is a halftime show involving rapid eye movement; as a hypnotist has been hired to put the crowd under his or her spell.
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:53 PM ^
Is it a possibility that one of the bands is doing an REM set? That would seem to make more sense and then the game of telephone line caused it to change.
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:55 PM ^
According to the MMB newsletter, the halftime show is a medley of fan favorites. Says nothing about REM.
November 23rd, 2017 at 10:25 PM ^
would be dominated by REM?
November 24th, 2017 at 7:27 AM ^
Ever the optimist they're going with 'Shiny Happy People.'
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:56 PM ^
Any chance your friend misunderstood and the OSU band is doing an REM tribute?
November 23rd, 2017 at 10:53 PM ^
A few quick REM classics would make me feel fine...
November 23rd, 2017 at 9:57 PM ^
any attention to this friend.
Halftime shows at Michigan Stadium are always about our band, joined by visiting band, and are always amazing.
If you live in A2, and are near campus certain afternoons... you will hear the glorious sounds of band practice. Always been part of what I love about fall.
