I would like to think that Harbaugh's lifetime contract includes a clause stating that, upon his death, his remains will be immediately embalmed and installed above the visitor's section of Michigan Stadium.  From that time on the opponents will literally have Jim Harbaugh leering over their collective shoulders while they are playing in the stadium.

It was Finebaum who started it up on Sunday morning. Claiming Harbaugh's a better NFL coach, he's underperforming at M, M fans are dissatisfied, he's worn out his welcome, his "antics" are wearing thin, yadda-yadda-yadda ... the usual detached media drivel.

A lifetime contract would make sense in lots of ways. M could front load the salary where the base declines, so that as time progresses, more funds are available to cultivate and retain assistant coaches who might eventually replace JH. M could even structure it so that instead of a buyout, JH is awarded a pension where M just continues to pay him (on the condition he doesn't coach anywhere else) while he transitions to a sort of head coach emeritus.

Herbstreit is a Buckeye and has that program's interest at heart.  From that vantage point, he has a vested interested in starting/passing on rumors that Harbaugh is leaving as it creates uncertainty about Michigan's future and dampens recruiting efforts.

Not buying it.  What would a "lifetime contract" even look like?  It would likely only really benefit him as he still could leave whenever he wanted provided someone paid the buyout.  In addition, the contract would also likely have automatic pay increases whenever another top coach got a raise, so Michigan would be obligated to keep increasing his pay regardless of results on the field.  Kind of silly and not going to happen.

Usually, top contracts will have pay increases based on achievements, e.g. winning the BTCG requires him to be the highest paid coach in the conference and winning the NCG requires him to be the top paid coach in the country. I've not seen any contracts that require the coach's salary to be adjusted regardless of results.

Sleepovers that help get top positional recruits are not what we need. We don’t need top recruits, we need results! Besides, those sleepovers happen during an important time of the year when he should be coaching his team! And don’t get me started on meaningless contracts! We shouldn’t do anything that would threaten a rival coaches leverage over common recruits. I’ll say it again: No Recruits! just Results!

You sound stupid, but keep doing you. You made it this far.

I'm okay with some of the hype and gimmicky stuff so far. I j;ust don't think a lifetime contract is something serious. And the longer we go without beating rivals, the more ridiculous it becomes.

So go put your head back in the sand like a good little sycophant.

I'm not here for your circle jerk, champ. And I'm not here for a JH lifetime achievement award before he wins something. I love the guy but criticizing a lifetime contract is pretty reasonable. There is a reason lifetime contracts aren't handed out.

So is that okay by you or do I need to go back out and buy a ticket to HL2VCTRS Pep Rally for Fans of 3rd Place Finishers?

This is where Harbaugh wants to be. He loves Ann Arbor, he loves Michigan, and he loves College Football.

Michigan is going to be a powerhouse the next couple of years. I say give him a lifetime contract.
