Don Brown lost the game playing man coverage on 3rd and 13, 3rd and 16, then 3rd and 8 in the crucial moments of the game.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:52 PM ^
His decision to put a true freshman safety in man coverage on 3rd and 16 might be the worst coaching decision he's ever made.
That said, his unit lost 9 starters and dominated the #5 team for three quarters. When your defense gives up 17 and you lose by 14, it's hard to blame them.
It is not hard to blame an offense that constantly gets destroyed despite having better atheltes than every team they face.
November 18th, 2017 at 4:01 PM ^
not the defese or even putting a freshman in the game. I will say that was perhaps the second half turning point. However, Michigan doesn't do anything well offensively. And even Peters, who is going to be good, is inconsistent. You just got to have consistency at the qb position.
I mean if its John O'Korn next week, I may volunteer to work Saturday because he has no game. If Peters is unavailable, I would try to get Speight ready if he can throw at all or maybe not. It will be a bodybag game.
This was obviously winnable if you make no mistakes and score when you can. But how many times did Michigan get called for an offensive penalty on first down in Badger territory. At least twice.
I had no real issues with the officiating, other than the ridiculous PI call that allowed Wisconsin to continue pounding the defense with about 9 minures left. I mean Michigan got a holding call this game, negating a big play. And as the opponent you can only count on getting one or two ot those a game.
Anyway, the coaching staff had no where to go once Peters left the game. O'Korn magic happened at Purdue because he had personal motivation in succeeding that day, that went beyond team goals. He threw some decent balls but led the throws into big hits.

I honestly think the stadium will be 50/50 with OSU fans. It’s going to be fucking terrible. I really doubt we score. Especially if it’s O Korn.
November 18th, 2017 at 7:00 PM ^
QB is only a portion of the issue. I’m not sure Baker Mayfield would be successful with this line and RB blowing assignments, with receivers not getting any separation, and generally bad offensive play calling and game planning.
The QB play has been bad, but it honestly seems like a symptom of a larger offensive problem. These QBs have too play in fear. When these assignments get blown, pass rushers are getting free hits at full speed.
November 18th, 2017 at 4:44 PM ^
You're seeing something I am not. I am not excusing the coaching, especially O line, but what makes anyone think Wisconsin's D has better athletes than our O or that they get "destroyed" by any team with clearly inferior talent? PSU and MSU are not inferior in talent, at least not clearly so, and if it ain't clear, you can't really make that sort of claim. And if you're referring to other teams' offenses, again, what basis for declaring we have "better atheltes"?
November 18th, 2017 at 10:03 PM ^
I noticed Seth's diagram showed us having 6 top 250 recruits to Wisconsin's zero. I suspect that is where the "better athletes" comment comes from.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:42 PM ^
Don Brown is the only reason we were even in the game!!!!
We had the ball 3 times on their side of the field and only came away with 3 points in the second half!!!
Not to mention the fumble at the 1 in the first half.
Come on. Blaming Don Brown and his staff is the last thing we should do.
Look at Harbaugh and the offense.
This program has still not won a big road game. Next year, we will have 3 at ND, OSU and MSU.
Does anyone have any confidence that things will get better without coaching changes?
November 18th, 2017 at 3:52 PM ^
Major changes necessary. But I will add only one caveat: the QB play was awful and doomed us this year. If we have a better QB next year it will automatically mean another couple TD's per game
November 18th, 2017 at 4:08 PM ^
I was pleasantly surprised with how well the game was going. Sure, the refs robbed M of one touchdown which would have been nice to have--but M was mixing in some nice passing plays, and was moving the ball far, far better than Wisconsin.
After Peters was knocked out of the game, everything changed. Momentum, effort, pass-catching, play-calling, on D as well as O.
When Peters didn't get up, it appeared M resigned itself to the inevitable.
November 18th, 2017 at 4:20 PM ^
If Harbaugh leaves for the NFL or they let him go Michigan wold turn into a true dumpster fire like they were under RR.
November 18th, 2017 at 4:22 PM ^
Huh? Coaching changes on the offense, not Harbaugh himself.
Read.
November 18th, 2017 at 4:26 PM ^
Harbaugh seems like he is not even interested..NO creativity or trick plays on Offense EVER! And Herstreit talking on Game Day about Harbaugh going to the NFL????
November 18th, 2017 at 4:49 PM ^
You'd think everyone would know that people paid to talk about college football on TV - or any other subject for that matter - will say anything, whether or not it has a shred of truth. So what if a graduate of OSU speculates about Harbaugh returning to the NFL? This is the same guy who reported Les Miles to Michigan, right? Herbie knows nothin' about nothin' in this department.
November 18th, 2017 at 6:36 PM ^
Didn't it come out later that he was correct about Miles, but the timing of said scoop put Miles on the spot and he had to pledge his allegience to LSU?
November 18th, 2017 at 6:40 PM ^
that at no time has he been offered the job to coach at the University of Michigan...sure, Les could be lying about that...but that is what he has said.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:48 PM ^
I have no problem with those decisions. He’s aggressive and it pays off more than it works against him. He puts players in position to make plays. Michigan’s front 4 were held in check once Wisoncon took a 2nd half lead. Their DBs got beat one on one. Their safeties were a step slow in the 2nd half. Players were put in position to make plays and the young guys didn’t win. Throw in a couple questionable calls.
I’ll take that aggressiveness over Lloyd’s bend but don’t break with any lead. So often, that broke. Michigan has a really talented young defense. Keeping putting the onus on them.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:49 PM ^
Take away the punt return and for a long time it was 10 to 14.
That punt return happened because people let up as even to me at first it looked like he was going to let it go. Just bad .....
The defense did enough to win this game and they can't be the ONLY side that delivers every single game. Plus players have to play the coaches can't do it all.
We lost yet another starting QB today. That factors in. The thing is we played them tough ... it wasn't a run away train.
Players need to make plays ... Wisc players caught balls in traffic and tight windows and our guys did not. That has to happen. QB went down ...... QB fumbled at a bad time. etc etc The coach didn't fumble. It happens. We punch that ball in where Peters fumbled (even a FG) and take away that punt return and poof in it.
We did ok. I thought we could win this one. I truly hope the injury to Peters isn't too bad.
We lost to a good team. We played tough until Peters went down. I'm good with the effort. It's not the end of the world. I saw some good things with Peters in there at QB today and it will be good for us going forward. Our D did a fine job and we can't hold every team back .... they only gave up 17 points .. that should be enough to win a game in truth.
Next Week !

Coaching has been not great.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:42 PM ^
After the complete lack of creativity with Peppers on offense last year, hard to have any faith that this staff would suddenly become brilliant.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:38 PM ^
Chryst and Harbaugh same time we n current positions. 1 owns the other.
Seems to be a familiar occurrence.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:40 PM ^
Really goes to show how much a good offensive line will smooth over a suspect QB situation..
November 18th, 2017 at 3:56 PM ^
Saying Chryst owns Harbaugh is dumb.
Chryst took over a team that had been 20-7 (.741) in the previous two season.
Harbaugh took over a team that had been 12-13 (.480) in the previous two seasons.
Chryst vs Harbaugh head to head = 1-1.
Chryst record against MSU, PSU, and OSU is 1-2 (.333).
Harbaugh record against MSU, PSU, and OSU is 3-5 (.375).
This season has been disappointing and frustrating, but get out of my face with that crap.
November 18th, 2017 at 8:35 PM ^
It shouldn’t be a contest. Take all of your stats about who took over programs with winning percentages and you get out of MY face. The fact is, THIS IS MICHIGAN and they are Wisconsin. We should be recruiting nationally while they recruit their back yard. So yeah, as a coach doing more with less this is another coach that owns ours. Question: when will we be able to say we won BECAUSE of our coach?
November 18th, 2017 at 4:04 PM ^
They are 1-1 against each other
November 18th, 2017 at 4:13 PM ^
Huh? They're 1-1 against each other.
November 18th, 2017 at 4:50 PM ^
He owns him alright? Oh, they're 1-1? Never mind.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:38 PM ^
Not good. Fire.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:49 PM ^
Tire? Dumpster? Couch?
November 18th, 2017 at 5:33 PM ^
I think he forgot to fill in the form letter for whoever we're blaming this week.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:38 PM ^
Next.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:38 PM ^
The inability to pick up stunts has been going on for so long it's clear the coaches just don't know how to teach it.
November 18th, 2017 at 5:27 PM ^
You got that right! It's been going on all season and it got Peters killed today. Too many free runs at the QB all year.
November 18th, 2017 at 7:33 PM ^
they are no bueno at picking up the stunt
November 18th, 2017 at 3:40 PM ^
Are fucking criminal. Newsome, Speight vs Purdue, Peters, Higdon being bent backwards by Wisky player. The team needs to start getting nasty and fight back against this crap. No other Big Ten team experiences this crap to the level we do.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:38 PM ^
I know field position is at a premium in these type of games but I still thought Harbaugh was a bit conservative innthe first half.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:41 PM ^
You mean you didn't like the 3rd and 12 draw call?
November 18th, 2017 at 3:43 PM ^
Or the O'Korn 3rd and 12 play action fake against an obvious all out blitz towards the end of the 4th quarter.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:56 PM ^
While the game was essentially over when they went for it on 4th and 2 but it looked like every single route was at least 10 yds down the field. Where's a quick hitting pass play? I don't know if they've thrown more then 3-4 quick slants all year long.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:53 PM ^
The fucking throw to McDoom in the end zone is what really grinds my gears playcalling wise.
That throw to your shortest guy is just moronic.
November 18th, 2017 at 7:33 PM ^
McDoom, with all due respect, hasn't showed me much on Saturdays when it comes to doing anything other then the jet sweep.
November 18th, 2017 at 4:01 PM ^
Agree. You don't throw long to the short guy!
November 18th, 2017 at 5:24 PM ^
...unless his name is Jeremy Gallon
November 18th, 2017 at 9:25 PM ^
This is the only problem I have with the offense. Hit Gentry, McKeon, Wheatley, Collins or you know like 4 or 5 other guys who are all taller than 4 ft tall.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:39 PM ^
But this might be the most overrated coaching staff in the country. Good guys have beaten two teams with a pulse in three years.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:46 PM ^
Im trying to think of who the 2 teams with a pulse are? Wisconsin last year and...?
Well, I guess Penn State of last year too.
November 18th, 2017 at 3:58 PM ^
They won the Pac-12 south last year.
November 19th, 2017 at 2:21 AM ^
MSU blew chunks last year. Not them.
