Ticketwatch: The Game

Submitted by LSA91 on

Help! There hasn't been a TicketWatch in a month, and I don't want to make a decision by myself!

I'm planning to get tickets for myself and my daughter for the Game, and I feel like I should pull the trigger now.

(1) It's safe to assume OSU demolishes Illinois this weekend. If I wait on the assumption that UM loses to Wisky and tickets continue to fall, that feels like betting against my team.

(2) On the other hand, it feels like prices have been dropping steadily, even as Michigan put up credible performances against some bad teams.

We've got plane tickets and hotel rooms, so we're committed. Any words of wisdom from people with more experience would be greatly appreciated.

Dude I'm writing it chill.

And don't buy at the peaks. The market has barely opened on these. If Michigan wins in Wisconsin they'll be $250-$300. If not $150-$200.

Who is an OSU gradx2 and whose daughter is a freshman there, bought 3 student tickets for $600 including validation. I find it nauseating that a student would knowingly round up a couple of tickets for a OSU fan. The UM student is friends with the freshman at OSU. I know there is no stopping this, but I cannot fathom biying OSU student tickets at the shoe and coming out alive.

I watched last year's Game from the student section at the Shoe, wearing a Michigan shirt and hoodie. In fairness to the students, it was actually a lot of fun, right up until Michigan lost There was some light teasing, but nothing more than you might see at one of my family's tailgates.

Half of that is that the OSU staff have really been working the students on being good hosts. Unfortunately, the other half is that this generation of students can barely remember losing to Michigan as anything other than a weird occasional aberation. (Hopefully that will change soon).

I sat in the OSU student section for 2012 on tickets that an MGoReader/OSU professor got me. We had a hipster Buckeye spit mustard at us. Last year we sat at the bottom of the Michigan fan section and I had two Trumpers threatening to kill us. It's good to see the professors trying to change the culture, but they've got a long way to go. Ohio State's program culture is literally "Fuck Michigan" and they rightfully believe that intimidating road fans helps preserve their home field advantage. Sometimes nowadays after a particularly heinous thing happens another Ohio State fan will come and say "I'm sorry don't think of all of us like that." And those people ought to be acknowledged. They're not the ones who leave an impression, though.

Michigan doesn't have that culture, and never will I hope. What we could do however is drop the prices on the tickets, so that it's not like like you're losing hundreds of dollars if you give them away to a friend.

Its Thanksgiving weekend, a lot of out of state kids go home so its pretty easy to find student tickets. Students are going to care more about making $200 than whether they sell to an osu fan when they know they can't be there and its tough to blame them.  It sucks, especially since osu fans love to take advantage of it and show up in force but they are used to winning so they are more into it.

Which is why The Game should NEVER have been pushed back to Thanksgiving weekend.

Disadvantage Michigan - massively. Just look at the % of students that are out of state - even if they aren't the most rabid fans, some of them are, but really don't have a choice but to go home for the holiday.

In 2001, when the season was understandably pushed back a week, the student section might have been 50/50. That might be an exaggeration, but not by much - I got extras so easily from friends who were headed home that I brought up a bunch of friends from Cincinnati (not OSU fans, fortunately) who were just interested in checking out The Game.

They should push back the B1G season another week or just give all teams a bye on Thanksgiving weekend and play the final games the week after.

at The Shoe twice, once as a cocky student and once as a "mature" adult.  Its fun as long as you aren't the one being the asshole.  Most people just want to watch the game.

btw I sat in the student section when it was in the "U" end and it was the loudest place I've ever been on this planet, my ears hurt for hours afterwards.

This was the pre-Tressel years before their fanbase became overconfident douchebags (and rightly so)

I would wait.  Lets be honest here, Michigan has less than a 50% chance to win this week.  If they lose, prices will drop.  I'd be on a computer while watching the game and if Michigan is going to win then buy immediately.

I think more tickets will be available on the market next week, due to thanksgiving, especially if we lose. If we win, prices will probably go up a little, but I don't think they will rise by 100 per ticket or anything. It sometimes makes me feel better to have the tickets in hand well before a game like this, but you'll probably regret it if prices plummet.

I already pulled the trigger on getting tickets to The Game. I am flying in from Switzerland with my wife and I didn't want to be without tickets so late, just in case Michigan was having a magical run.

Paid a bit of a premium, but got tickets in section 21. Now all I hope for is dry weather.

If OSU manages to claw back into playoff contention somehow combined with us beating Wisconsin prices might climb back up.  Otherwise it seems lke prices have been in freefall ever since the combinaion of the PennState & Iowa games.

They are in if they win out, it is up to us to stop that and make a case for ourselves, if we get a little help. We have ruined their season before and it's about time we do it again.

I agree. I just don't think that happens. I think Bama wins out, Oklahoma wins out, Miami/Clemson winner goes and Big ten champ (Us) (if we get help) goes. 1. Bama 2. Miami 3. Oklahoma 4. Michigan/Ohio st. We gotta hope that Maryland takes care of Msu and they could and Nebraska gets Penn st, more likely than people think in my opinion.

I almost always buy cfb tickets the mirning of in StubHub, is that a bad strategy here? Also, has there been significant activity on the Tidget app for the last couple games?

tickets are pretty cheat right now. Snagged decent tickets for $125 each (not counting taxes and fees). If UM beats UW they will go up a good bit I bet and everyone is counting this is a guaranteed loss to UW so I think they are pretty cheap right now.

if you know you're coming, you should buy now (unless you're willing to wait until just before kickoff -- which I presume you don't).  A win against Wisconsin will drive up prices substantially, especially for good seats.  A loss will cause them to come down a little.  Seems like a no-brainer since you know you're coming and apparently need at least 2 tickets together

Harbaugh's first year we snagged 2 together on the 50 yard line Section 23, row 56 for $230 each - an awesome deal for the seat location (wife was very happy). Similar seat right now is listed on StubHub for $450 each. Last minute sellers on StubHub panic. Mobile delivery on your iPhone makes it a snap and not stressful.

Game day was perfect but we got lit-up on the field. Thing I noticed, which was different, the OSU band was directly on the field and really obnoxious. Maybe it just seemed that way because they scored so many points, but we need to get that band off the field ... they were leading that fight-song like every 5 seconds and made it seem like an away game. You could tell Harbaugh was pissed. I am betting the OSU band has been relegated to the tunnel (or worse) this year ...
