Week 11 Imperialism Map
The week 11 college football imperialism map is up. With a win this weekend, Michigan would "take over" the largest number of counties in the country.

Too bad we won't get a chance to play Northwestern and recover our lost territories.
November 13th, 2017 at 9:24 AM ^
loses to Michigan in the B1G title game --- U-M gets that territory back. There is a path.
November 13th, 2017 at 10:21 AM ^
I thought it was just about impossible for UM to make the title game? ...I still have hope though
November 13th, 2017 at 10:25 AM ^
probability is low, but we have not yet been mathmatically eliminated. We need to win out with help from Maryland and Rutgers.

Yippee!

Beating Wisconsin will put us back on the map
November 13th, 2017 at 9:11 AM ^
Won't beating Wisconsin give Miami more territory? because:
Wisconsin < Michigan < Michigan State < Notre Dame < Miami
November 13th, 2017 at 9:13 AM ^
The winner takes over the counties owned by the loser. Otherwise there would be a handful of unowned counties and only 4 teams on the map.

Nevermind
November 13th, 2017 at 9:22 AM ^
They just beat ND who had East lansing and Kzoo via MSU.
November 13th, 2017 at 9:22 AM ^
Notre Dame earned MSU's territory. And Louisville & Duke earned some Midwest territory by beating Purdue and NW early in the season in the nonconference. The nonconference schdule for conferences pretty much determined what territory could be gained during conference play.
November 13th, 2017 at 9:19 AM ^
Funny how the timing worked out. No Big Ten East team has any territory right now despite being the better division. PSU lost its territory to OSU who then turned around and ceded it to Iowa the following week. Wisconsin added Iowa's territory to its own this past week. Northwestern has the territory we earned during the nonconference after beating MSU.
If Michigan were to beat Wisconsin and OSU, there would most likely be no territory on the line in the B1G Championship Game.

Turning all that Badger Red to Blue would make this map a piece of art.

It's kind of a cool concept but every time I look at it I expect it to start looking something like the real college football landscape; with the top 4-5 eams separating themselves they should appear to have more real estate. But the way it's constructed where only the last game really matters, it just doesn't ever look like anything, really. They need to change the methodology or something.
I want to like this, but it's just kind of lame.

This is Silly

I'm kinda with ya there. Just kind of a bunch of color blobs and not particularly informative.
November 13th, 2017 at 10:35 AM ^
Yep. Why it seems to get a weekly thread, I don't know.
November 13th, 2017 at 9:26 AM ^
can you do this for a few previous years?
it would then give a better idea of how useful it is (just a thought).
I kind of like the idea but suspect it isn't that useful in the end.
November 13th, 2017 at 1:20 PM ^
Your mistake is thinking it is trying to be useful. Its utility is limited to mild entertainment and it is happy with that.

That map will look beautiful if we win
November 13th, 2017 at 9:28 AM ^
This seems almost as dumb as the OP's handle.

See, it is a witty play on Roy Roundtree. Get it?

over the University of Alaska was a real barnburner. Fairbanks is one of the toughest venues to play, what with the bears and moose roaming the sidelines.

Totally nails the absurdity and grandeur of college football. Go Blue! Be champuons of the slightly northwest.

I like reading through the comments and see how far in advance fans look. There is a comment from and OU fan telling a WVU fan that they better not lose to Texas this week and lose all of there land before they play the week after. Again, it’s a bit silly but I enjoy seeing it every week.

Please ignore the amount of grammar errors in my above post. It is Monday.

Some of you must just be fucking miserable people. I’m not saying you have to think this is the best thing in the world, but holy shit. It’s just a fun little exercise that someone came up with and a lot of people really like it. I can’t wait until Michigan wins the B10 and makes the playoff at some point. I guarantee I will come here and there will undoubtedly be a few here bitching about something.
November 13th, 2017 at 9:52 AM ^
I'm of the opinion that my boss could hand everyone on the team a $100 bill and people would somehow find a way to bitch about it.
November 13th, 2017 at 10:27 AM ^
Well, paying players is still technically illegal so bitching might be understandable.
November 13th, 2017 at 9:58 AM ^
who doesn't enjoy a little imperialism with their morning coffee? I know I do.

Just comments on a message board. I suppose if everyone has to support everything and not disagree with the OP, then I would probably lose interest in the whole endeavor pretty quickly. Sheesh.

Sorry, on mobile and can’t link, but that post from the Iowa fan predicting how it would all go down several weeks ago is pretty amazing.

A little imperialism on Monday mornings. A fun start to the worst day of the week......

It still makes me laugh that Miami owns all this territory across the country, from the entirety of Maine to northern California, and from Chicago to southwest Louisiana, but still doesn't own a single county in Florida.
