The State Of Our Open Threads: After Minnesota

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

Once again, there isn't too much to dissect here in comparison to recent weeks, but we will go through the data that does exist. We faced a similar set of circumstances yesterday as we did with Rutgers:

1) Home game, meaning more of us were at the game and not here

2) It's Minnesota

3) Liveblog participation, which diverts people from the threads

4) No second half thread

Those things helped lead to what was in fact our smallest open thread this year at only 1,529 posts overall. For contrast, Purdue's thread was 3,151 and Indiana's came in at 2,972 posts. The season average actually sits right at 2,400 posts, so the last two weeks have definitely been light.

That aside, we did manage 131 fucks last night, which is a slight increase from the 109 produced for the Rutgers game. Like the Rutgers game, many of those were of a more positive nature though, or at least as uplifting as the word "fuck" can be. The season average for fucks given is 330, however, so again, a very low-stress affair this week.

Indeed, for the first time this season, there were under 20 instances of "suck", and most of those were directed at the weather and only a couple directed at the team. Also of note, the word "nice", which we track as a positive indicator, outperformed "shit" for the second straight week, and that's the first time we've had a streak like that going in a while, if you can believe that.

Comparatively absent in this game too were mentions of "Harbaugh" and "offense", which seems to indicate we've been pretty comfortable - relatively speaking - with both of these things for a couple weeks now, and especially with the Peters era beginning at QB.

Here's what the Stress Chart looked like, what there was of one. Only five pages of threads, and remember that "Page 1" includes (and is adjusted for) about an hour of pregame chatter:

Overall swearing efficiency was actually the lowest it has been all year at 3.87, which relates to a comfortable win in the Harbaugh era as you might expect. The trend so far looks like this:

In a nutshell, the last two weeks have been....soothing.

Of course, we'll see what Maryland brings, but here's hoping we get a third week to "rest", if you can call it that.

I am  more than positive "fuck" and "suck" were used to describe or vent about the officiating. Can't blame anyone for that. That crew needs to go. End of story.

I was disappointed in what I saw in the passing game last night.  UofM will be lucky to get 100 yards rushing against Wisconsin and OSU.  They aren't Minnesota.  They'll load up to stop the run and force Peters to pass.  I'm afraid those games could get ugly.  Would love to see Harbaugh fix the offense, especially the passing game, but if it isn't there now, I realistically don't expect it to suddenly appear.  I'm hopeful, but I ahve low expectations for those two games.
