Karan Higdon unwittingly meets Mike Hart
Cool story, especially the part about him asking for Karan's gloves.

this is in a way much better. Check out the original, longer piece for a great profile of Higdon.

....from the title I thought they may have met in the adult section of their local dvd rental store.

In Mike Hart’s footsteps :)

WHY DID WE BURN HIS REDSHIRT????
At the time we started playing Higdon, we had Smith, Drake, Ty, and Green on the depth chart.
November 1st, 2017 at 8:46 AM ^
It'll be okay.
November 1st, 2017 at 8:48 AM ^
BECAUSE HE WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY!!!!
Seriously, don't be concerned about players burning a RS. They are really handy for OL/DL and QB's - guys who need to mature/grow into thier man bodies, and those who need to process a complex offense better than anyone else on the field. The playing time (read: snaps) that Higdon got as a Freshman helped him to be the best RB on the roster today. It's okay to have burned that RS!! When he's out of eligibility, Samuels will be ready to take over...

His 11 carries are what helped him be the best RB on the roster today? I just don't see it. Smith was playing well as was Drake. I think this had a lot to do with Isaac being in the doghouse in 2015, and Green just fading so much.
November 1st, 2017 at 9:02 AM ^
Being on the list of players that were able to see the field, however scarce, allowed him better participation in practice. He saw, and ran, more of the offense than anyone that had no chance to get on the field did. Granted - practice doesn't necessarliy translate to the field, but practice reps are better than no practice reps. And they weren't scout team reps, either - where you learn the opponents plays.
November 1st, 2017 at 10:27 AM ^
11 carries weren’t a lot, but he also got some snaps as a pass protector or going out on a pattern. Plus, like you said, more reps, and more with the starters. No doubt it contributed, to some degree, to his current success.

If he's good enough to go pro he would leave after this year regardless if he had redshirted. Although he is very good I'm pretty sure he will be back next year. I honestly don't see any of our underclassmen leaving this year. Grant Perry is only one who I think will even consider, but doubt he leaves cause he would be lucky to be a 6th or 7th rd pick at this point.
November 1st, 2017 at 9:01 AM ^
lol grant perry isnt getting drafted
November 1st, 2017 at 10:15 AM ^
Grant can be a very good college receiver and has shown he can catch. Never count a guy out, but if he does go it would be after his eligibility is gone.
November 1st, 2017 at 10:51 AM ^
He actually has dropped quite a few this season. Usually slot types that lack size and raw speed need to have Avant-like hands to cash in on a successful NFL campaign. I wouldn't count him out yet but he needs to catch everything that hits both hands going forward.
November 1st, 2017 at 10:24 AM ^
Not this year cause he probably won't leave, but he will after next year.
November 1st, 2017 at 10:45 AM ^
If. If he gets drafted next year, it will be in the late rounds.
November 1st, 2017 at 8:08 PM ^
If Jeremy Gallon can't cut it in the NFL then I dont think Perry will. No offense to him.
November 1st, 2017 at 8:51 AM ^
He was on track to playing a lot more but got injured.
November 1st, 2017 at 9:11 AM ^
I could be wrong, but wasn't Isaac still sitting out because of transferring? Also, Derrick Green did next to nothing here and Smith and Drake are decent players, but you make it sound like there's no room for a good RB to get carries in a lineup like that.
November 1st, 2017 at 9:15 AM ^
Not to mention Drake had multiple serious injuries.

...is a "get to the NFL and get paid as fast as possible before your body explodes" position. Chances are if you're a 5th Year Senior at running back, you're not a difference-maker.
November 1st, 2017 at 12:45 PM ^
How many 5th-year senior starting tailbacks do you see?
We could get two years of starting out of Higdon. It's hard to complain about that.
November 1st, 2017 at 12:51 PM ^
That's a bit disappointing, but he might be gone after next season anyway. If he keeps churning out 150+ rushing games next year, he'll be gone to the NFL and we'll be salivating over a Kareem Walker, Evans and Noah Cain backfield in 2019.
November 1st, 2017 at 7:25 PM ^
Green.... lol
November 1st, 2017 at 8:51 AM ^
Why did he want his gloves? Was he just trying to make Karan feel good or is there something I'm missing?
November 1st, 2017 at 8:56 AM ^
You ever hear of eBay?

I really liked you in Cold Mountain.
November 1st, 2017 at 9:39 AM ^
The book, sure, but the movie? The best part was Jack White
November 1st, 2017 at 10:22 AM ^
The books are better than the movies, but in my opinion cold mountain is one of the few where the movie is better. The acting in that movie is some of the best in the last 15 years. Jude Law's portrayal of me was spot on. Him not winning an oscar for best actor is still the biggest farce in Oscar history.

Players ask for jerseys in the nfl, the college kids can’t do that so he asked for the gloves
November 1st, 2017 at 10:19 AM ^
Gotcha makes sense
November 1st, 2017 at 2:43 PM ^
Pretty sure they aren’t supposed to do that in college either (gloves). All of the equipment has to be returned to the department for them to get the replacements. So if they want a new pair of gloves they have to return the old pair, etc. At least that’s how it was in 2006. Times change though
November 2nd, 2017 at 12:58 PM ^
let it slide this time.

The last player to rush for 200 yards, getting the gloves from the next running back to run 200 yards that he wore in said game roughly 10 years laer.
I'll reply instead of negbang. I guess.

stole them and won't give them back. Hi-Yo!
November 1st, 2017 at 9:56 AM ^
I'm pretty sure we had this one particular player reach 200 yards many times in between Hart and Higdon.
November 1st, 2017 at 10:05 AM ^
Remind me, what position did that guy play?
November 1st, 2017 at 10:46 AM ^
And I'll always wonder, if Hoke had told Denard that he was going to play RB and make Devin QB what that would have been like.
November 1st, 2017 at 11:02 AM ^
He might've transferred. There was a lot of worry that Denard would split when Rich Rod got fired. His dad's insistence that he get his Michigan degree made a big difference, but I wonder if that would've been overridden if he had moved from QB (the reason he came to Mich to begin with was that RR assured him he'd play QB and not defensive back or somesuch).
November 1st, 2017 at 1:35 PM ^
I actually wonder if RR wouldn't have made that switch eventually. Devin was the better thrower/power runner, and the lack of a home run threat next to Denard in the read option was I think part of what limited the 2010 RR offense against top defenses. Denard+Devin, with Denard always a threat to take some wildcat snaps, would have solved that problem. Then again can't see Denard doing a lot of blocking.
Dangerous of course, having both your plausible QBs on the field, but probably very, very hard to stop
