Wasn't it on Peters' first attempt that the announcer said "he's thrown one pass this year..."? Was he mistaken on that?
October 29th, 2017 at 11:43 AM ^
He completed a short pass at the end of the Purdue game.
October 29th, 2017 at 12:00 PM ^
I guess I should quit drinking and go to bed because I totally missed that lol.
October 29th, 2017 at 1:00 PM ^
It was a screen to Ways (I think) with a few min left while Michigan was running out the clock. I missed it too until I re-watched the game.
October 29th, 2017 at 2:42 PM ^
I remember it being a quick little "out" route. I don't think it was a screen.
October 29th, 2017 at 1:17 AM ^
How does Isaac not get credit for a TD on that play (2:05)? I didn't get that...
October 29th, 2017 at 7:02 AM ^
Because his knee was down before the ball broke the end zone
October 29th, 2017 at 1:57 PM ^
It was? I was at the game and the only replay I saw made it look like he got in.
October 29th, 2017 at 2:43 PM ^
Yeah, I figured that by the crowd reaction on tv. He didn't break the plane. It was pretty clear, though the spot was bad. Should have been at the six inch mark.
October 29th, 2017 at 1:29 AM ^
Missed the game today...but per my review the offense after Peters came in:
Touchdown
Touchdown
Touchdown
Missed FG
Touchdown
TO on Downs after driving 52 yards, could have kicked a FG to avoid this as well.
Over a typical 11-12 possession game that works out to 50+ points if the above is adjusted across the entire game.
Rutgers caveat granted but we haven’t done anything similar against anyone yet. Progress is progress.
October 29th, 2017 at 3:20 AM ^
I think people need to start giving Rutgers a bit more credit. Their defense is better than a few teams we have played and might be better than the next two opponents.
This was the 2nd most points they have given up so far outside of OSU. They held Washington to slightly under us and they pulled away late.
Many act like they are #lolrutgers like years past, but they have improved quite a bit actually.
October 29th, 2017 at 7:45 AM ^
Florida 40
Cinci 89
Air Force 67
Purdue 56
MSU 9
IU 30
PSU 19
Rutgers 69 (nice)
So actually according to data, and not some wild brain malfunction statistic that you thought up and passed off as a fact,Rutgers is the second worst defense we've played so far. They are better than Cincinnati.
Edit: oh and
Minnesota 20
Maryland 104
So... Not really accurate there either.
Sorry ?
October 29th, 2017 at 11:10 AM ^
It is however true that they've improved a fair amount since last season, when they were 97th nationally, surrendering 450.7 YPG.
I also don't think Minnesota is as good as its defensive ranking. They've just played a terrible schedule.
October 29th, 2017 at 11:04 AM ^
S&P has Rutgers at 33 FPI has them at 61. That was a really snarky post to use total defense.
October 29th, 2017 at 12:08 PM ^
So compare the schedule using S&P.
You've given no context. So what if Rutgers is 61 on FPI. That wasn't what the post was saying.
Rutgers is 54th.
Rutgers is 39th.
Rutgers is 12th.
That tells us nothing.
October 29th, 2017 at 1:06 PM ^
Speaking of wild brain malfunctions, are you aware that total defense is not the only or best metric to gage a defense?
They are ranked 33 in defense according to s&p+. This puts them ahead of florida by a few spots (38) and behind MSU by a few (29).
Coming up Minnesota is 25 and Maryland is 77.
So maybe don't look at one basic stat and pass it off as data that proves others have brain malfunctions and are making up facts.
Rutgers is a top 35 defense right now according to the advanced stats at S&p+, they are 82 overall. Therefore, I stand by my assessment of them being a much improved team and defense and are not the bottom dwelling laughing stock they have been the last decade or so. From an overall team standpoint they are still below average, but are not far from middling. Although their defense is somewhere between above average and good.
October 29th, 2017 at 5:37 PM ^
At least I gave stats, asshole.
Rutgers is 67th
October 29th, 2017 at 6:51 PM ^
So not only do I have a wild brain malfunction because I look at more advanced statistics than total defense to gauge how good a Defense is, I am also some how the one being an asshole in this conversation because I did not list the s&p+ advance stats proving my point while laying in bed at 2am typing a comment?
Lmoa.
Your comments are pretty good but these are not. Not only are you being a rude dick for no reason you are using the most rudimentary stats to show Rutgers defense is as bad as they have been in the past. Which, bth, them being 67 in the very basic stat of total Defense proves my point that they are not the train wreck they were last year. And maybe, just maybe we should stop acting like they are one of the worst teams in the FBS like they were the past few years.
October 30th, 2017 at 2:28 AM ^
Prick. Jesus Dude, take drink a and relax, it's football discussion and he didn't warrant any of your shit.
October 29th, 2017 at 8:06 PM ^
Who the hell still uses nominal stats? Do you still watch newly released movies on a VCR?

Rutgers has the #44 defense according to S&P+
October 29th, 2017 at 10:20 PM ^
Did new s&p+ come out and I missed it? Because the Oct 21st update has them at 33, right in front of Purdue interestingly enough.
In that update they were 44 in run defense and 51 against the pass.
October 30th, 2017 at 8:49 AM ^
Rutgers was ranked 33rd in defense coming into Michigan Stadium. After playing us, they are now ranked 44th.
October 29th, 2017 at 1:41 AM ^
Based on the highlights, the Cable Subscribers didn't start backing off their safeties (in normal down/distance) until the 4th quarter.
October 29th, 2017 at 3:13 AM ^
beat Purdue, who beat NE. At least we are beating up on little teams again. Unlike earlier in the season when Cincinnati and and USAF were keeping things way too close through the entire game.
October 29th, 2017 at 8:25 AM ^
On a touchdown with 14 seconds left.
October 29th, 2017 at 12:09 PM ^
Yeah, I wasn't clear with my point. Someone around here yesterday said the reason our running game worked yesterday was Peters showed the Subscribers they had to back off their safeties. No, the running game worked pretty well before the safeties backed off.
And that's why I needed the "its still Rutgers" caveat.
October 29th, 2017 at 1:46 AM ^
...somebody would have to pay me to listen to them again,.. Millen is an imbecile
October 29th, 2017 at 3:29 AM ^
He breaks down plays relatively fast and pretty accurate. In general I think I yell at other crews far more for saying stupid shit it not knowing the rules. However, the guy is always good for at least one comment that gets me to call him a moron. This week was "oh great punt" as the rutgers punted bombed it 5 yards into the end zone for a touch back. No Matt, not all 50+ yard punts are great.
I did get a laugh when he just flat out said psu was running illegal pick routes last week but Rutgers ran a good rub route. Which I agreed with.
October 29th, 2017 at 4:54 AM ^
Noticed while re-watching the highlights, he called the Evans touchdown before Peters even threw the ball. Right after the play starts he says "Flood. Got it." and then Peters throws it.
October 29th, 2017 at 8:07 AM ^
Millen is the type of guy that really DOES know football; he can talk about it, he knows the schemes very well and can recognize good football because he's seen it all. When it comes to actually creating a good team and producing good football on the field...He sucks.
He's like a NASCAR fan who can talk draft and wedge and understeer and drag coefficient but he can't change his own oil or stop hitting people in parking lots with his lumina.
October 29th, 2017 at 8:19 AM ^
This comparison is perfect. Right down to the Lumina. My wife asked what I was laughing about lol
October 29th, 2017 at 3:47 AM ^
Thanks for posting so quickly! was only able to listen on the radio today.
October 29th, 2017 at 7:29 AM ^
Excited to see what peters can do against Maryland and beyond!
October 29th, 2017 at 8:26 AM ^
Minnesota too!
October 29th, 2017 at 7:34 AM ^
Peters has a strong arm. You can really see it on the throws when he is moving laterally.
Likewise, there were throws - his first to Wheatley and the wheel TD to Evans - when just tosses it. Yes, Rutgerzz. But I'm optimistic.
October 29th, 2017 at 8:13 AM ^
Agreed. I'm glad the schedule sets up nicely for him to get safer reps but I'm still nervous. Anointed or not he's still a freshman.
What I do like is that he recognized his options quickly and made decisions. Needs to get a better feel at game speed but I already trust him 15+ yards downfield more than JOK or Speight. That will probably change too.
October 29th, 2017 at 8:29 AM ^
He’s a 20 year old RS Freshman who enrolled early.
Needs to get a better feel at game speed? What are you talking about?
October 29th, 2017 at 11:53 AM ^
Sarcasm I surely hope.
October 29th, 2017 at 12:27 PM ^
There are definitely redshirt freshmen who are ready to take over and excel, but they are the exception, not the norm. He had not played extensively in games before yesterday. Is it that wild of a concept that a freshman needs to acclimate?
October 29th, 2017 at 12:27 PM ^
He throws a quiet ball is what I was thinking from the 78th row.
October 29th, 2017 at 8:35 AM ^
Higdon was his usual superb self, Issac had a very nice game and Walker was even more impressive than I remembered. Hope his ankle heals up soon. Evans made a really nice TD catch and had a nice run too. Bottom line, there many big holes yesterday and our offense looked well balanced. Going to enjoy all the highlights posted today. Like a fine meal.

This has to be disingenuous coach/player speak after a loss.
From MLive:
"The Rutgers players and coaches, unsurprisingly, had no idea a quarterback controversy had been brewing in Ann Arbor. But when Brandon Peters replaced John O'Korn midway through the second quarter on Saturday, the Michigan Stadium crowd sure let them know.
"It seemed like the crowd was kind of obnoxiously cheering," Rutgers redshirt senior Dorian Miller said with a smile.
Miller is an offensive lineman, so he was especially unaware of Michigan's offensive personnel coming in to the game. "But we could pick up on the fact that (the fans) have been wanting a change (at quarterback). And they got it."
When Rutgers head coach Chris Ash was asked if Michigan seemed more energized with Peters in the game, he asked for clarification on who Peters was."
October 29th, 2017 at 9:43 AM ^
Sounds quite Rutgers to me.
October 29th, 2017 at 11:12 AM ^
SMH Rutgers. This kind of inattention is not worthy of college football's biggest rivalry.
October 29th, 2017 at 11:18 AM ^
Asked after the game about the direction of Rutgers football program, Ash said, “Which school? Rutgers? It’s in New Jersey. That’s east from here, right?”
October 29th, 2017 at 11:11 AM ^
I will wait to see what he does vs Minnesota and Maryland before getting excited. Kid has talent. That much is clear. Can he build on Saturday is what I want to see.
