The magic of October 21
Another poster asked this question yesterday. What was Michigan's record on 10/21.
So it looked it up and the results were rather stunning.

Is there a UFR for that U of Chicago game?
October 17th, 2017 at 5:49 PM ^
It only took us 46 years to give Chicago their 10/21 comeuppance for that 1893 loss, but a comeuppance it was.

Shamus O'Korn was 6-24 passing with 3 INTs including a pick 6. The defense, led by coordinator David Brown held Chicago to a FG and only 24 total yards.
October 17th, 2017 at 6:31 PM ^
Little known fact, Shamus led the B10 in passing yards that year with 325 yards.
that's it, 325 yards. for the entire season.
2nd place was Hobart McGillicutty with 290
October 17th, 2017 at 9:36 PM ^
Little known fact: in 1893, the forward pass was not yet legal in football, so that’s a truly impressive stat!
October 17th, 2017 at 9:43 PM ^
...he must have led in penalty minutes too.
October 18th, 2017 at 1:53 AM ^
They were screens
October 17th, 2017 at 8:00 PM ^
Little known fact: Bill Snyder was an assistant on the Chicago coaching staff.
October 17th, 2017 at 8:13 PM ^
gets me right here
October 17th, 2017 at 8:15 PM ^
Yep, Snyder was a grad assnt who was hired by AA Stagg - so lots of film analysis.
Also, had to invent film.
October 18th, 2017 at 1:54 AM ^
Hmm, this must of been after his wizard training...

It's a 1949 Buick Roadmaster. Straight 8. Fireball 8. Only 8985 production models. Dad lets me drive slow on the driveway. But not on Monday. Definitely not on Monday.

Haven't lost in 50 years on the 21st. Sounds like a lead pipe cinch.
October 17th, 2017 at 5:47 PM ^
That is stunning, how could we have lost to Indiana in 1967?
Fire Bump Elliott.
October 17th, 2017 at 5:52 PM ^
I'd hold off another year and see if you can pick up a decent MAC coach. There has to be one available.
October 17th, 2017 at 6:14 PM ^
Maybe that Paterno fellow from Penn State.
October 18th, 2017 at 9:18 AM ^
always and forever
October 17th, 2017 at 6:25 PM ^
That was their last Rose Bowl year
October 17th, 2017 at 5:47 PM ^
Those OSU scores lead me to believe Dave Brandon was into something proposing moving The Game to the middle of October.
October 17th, 2017 at 5:49 PM ^
This is solid. Science, bitches.
October 17th, 2017 at 5:50 PM ^
As every SEC-compliant stock/mutual fund/ETF must say, "past performance is no guarantee of future results." That's especially true when past performance is measured via a random date...
October 17th, 2017 at 6:09 PM ^
You're usually pretty solid, but I think you're wrong this time.
October 17th, 2017 at 5:57 PM ^
Technically, in 1916 Michigan State was known as Michigan Agricultural College. Mooo U. NTTAWWT.
Research species for theses or dissertations may focus on beef or dairy cattle, sheep, swine, horses, poultry, or fur-bearing and laboratory species.
I wanted to get a Ph.D. at MSU, but I couldn't decide between beef or fur-bearing species.
BTW, I can make these jokes because I grew up in East Lansing. It's like the fat comic who is allowed to make fat jokes.

are no laughing matter up here. they're money and food. got any good breeding stock...?
October 18th, 2017 at 9:19 AM ^
we're still talking about farm animals, right?
October 18th, 2017 at 10:48 AM ^
once you have kids you realize on a whole 'nother level how important a wonderful spouse is and of course want that for your own kids too.

worked at MSU. Her co-worker bred 4H-fare winning steer. I still remember the time mom came home from work and regaled us with stories of her co-worker's obsession with bull semen.
October 17th, 2017 at 5:54 PM ^
For the first 47 years, we gave up only 6 points. Think about that stat for a while.
October 17th, 2017 at 6:26 PM ^
I think you missed the 10 in the first game.
October 17th, 2017 at 5:55 PM ^
The score is semi-interesting as well.
October 17th, 2017 at 5:57 PM ^
Pretty impressive that, on the 21st of October, we have never lost to a school that still has a football team
October 17th, 2017 at 5:59 PM ^
RIP, Indiana.
October 17th, 2017 at 6:11 PM ^
Saturday. That augers...er, not well?
October 17th, 2017 at 6:12 PM ^
Losing to fuckin Chicago...
October 17th, 2017 at 6:16 PM ^
after your stellar work looking up Michigan’s record when passing for less than 100 yards and this thread I have another assignment for you. Look up Michigan’s record by phase of the moon and tell us what that means for Saturday
October 17th, 2017 at 7:36 PM ^
During the Queen of England's menstrual cycle? That's a sufficiently arbitrary stat
October 17th, 2017 at 7:58 PM ^
Jesus, she's like 105, man. What a bizarre remark.
October 17th, 2017 at 8:36 PM ^
Um yeah, that ship has sailed.
October 17th, 2017 at 6:21 PM ^
16-2, with 9 wins by shutout. Not too shabby.
October 17th, 2017 at 6:22 PM ^
Saturday night around 11 you'll have us at goodbye. Go Blue.
October 17th, 2017 at 6:28 PM ^
And yet Vegas is still giving us 9.5?
October 17th, 2017 at 6:35 PM ^
I wonder what Michigan's record is in games where they are a 2-score underdog? Given the line fluctuates and there probably aren't many games exactly at the current spread, I wonder how they perform in games that are say 7.5-13.5... too lazy to look myself.
October 17th, 2017 at 7:09 PM ^
With history repeating itself :)
October 17th, 2017 at 7:12 PM ^
I honestly think we beat PSU this weekend. They're a paper tiger with a big head right now... They're primed for an upset. PSU is most definitely not the best team in the B1G
October 17th, 2017 at 7:15 PM ^
Have you watched them play this year besides Iowa?
October 17th, 2017 at 7:24 PM ^
I watch all of our upcoming opponents... Barkley is a freak athlete but that isn't exactly translating into dominance at the RB position. Trace is a mediocre QB with good to great escapability. If only we had a competent QB, we'd be a lock.
Imo, PSU is the third best team in the B1G right now. Sadly, OSU has looked better in all phases except ST.
October 17th, 2017 at 7:36 PM ^
Think is second best?
