Springmann (and 2 other 4-stars) commit to ND
Big day for ND recruiting. OT Springmann was a UM target.
We need to get 2-3 OLs to pledge UM quick or it's going to get stressful as the year goes on. Only 10 scholarship OL for 2011.
Michigan is in on some very talented OLs. Zettel. Andre Y. Others. There are enough guys out there - no reason to panic. It's still very early.
A successful season on the field will help.
ND filling a couple slots may actually be a good thing, it might move a Zettel (for example) toward Michigan.
Coach Rod knows what he's doing.
I don't think Zettel is a ND target now or likely to become one. MSU will be UM's strongest competition, he was at their spring game yesterday.

OMG PANIC PANIC PANIC!!11!one!one!
Or, you could check the calender and not worry.
"or it's going to get stressful as the year goes on"... is not Panic! The "or" and the "going to" are both situational and future tense.
Come on, David, you have to be smarter than that.
And some on the board have gotten a little stressed over not having a position of need filled "as the year goes on". As in the chatter we had when there were almost zero defensive commits in September. It worked itself out and everyone was happy, but it was worthy of conversation at the time.
It's what we do.
And if you are not panicked at all, not even slightly, why are you making this post? I would firmly say that it doesn't need to be talked about right now. I'm a big fan of Vonnegut and I'll defer to him to say it better than I...
People have to talk about something just to keep their voice boxes in working order so they'll have good voice boxes in case there's ever anything really meaningful to say. -Kurt Vonnegut
Anyone who hasn't been panicking, or stressing, since, oh, about Toledo, 2008 must have a steady supply of valium.
It seems that expressing ANY concern over how things are going induces the shrill, extremist replies accusing the one concerned of being on the verge of suicide.
Thin skins all around on the M boards, no?
As for your concern on OL--of course it's valid. If we think every O lineman on the team right now will prove to be a major contributor over the next three years, we CRAZY!
I mean, hell, why would anyone want to talk recruiting on a message board where much of the focus is....recruiting?
ND's recruiting is off to a hot start. Did anybody watch their spring game?
If ND's Spring game is any indication of the year to come...I feel sorry for them...that was a sad display.
I was pretty happy with it
I'm actually more surprised to see that Jabriel Washington committed to Alabama this early.
I'm not worried whatsoever about our OL recruiting. There are plenty of quality guys left on the board, and as we've seen in the past, RR is great at identifying players at other positions who can make the transition to OL.
Attention all offensive linemen: we need you to commit now, even though signing day is over 9 months away.
i'm sorry but the implication that we need to get 2-3 OL to commit soon just because ND did is laughable
OP was about 1) ND's big haul today, and 2) that UM lost out on Springmann.
I think we need to get 4-5 total (and hopefully a couple quick) because we need OL in this class. Losing good prospects, to me, is a big deal. Doesn't matter where they end up going. (however, seeing Westerman go to Texas was better than seeing him go Big 10/ND.)
Obviously seeing a kid from Ft. Wayne go to ND is no surprise or anything to worry about (other than losing out on "a" lineman)

Especially because one of the guys is an OT who runs a 5.5 40. I'll go ahead and guess that he was offered by Weis and Kelly would like to pull the offer but can't.

Well, the fact that ND had 2 O-linemen drafted today (albeit both in the 6th round) probably didn't hurt.
Hopefully recruits will see the B. Graham first-round selection and realize that the Michigan brand name puts scouts' eyes on you even when the program is going through a rough period (which is not the case with some other programs that can be fairly characterized as UM's younger, smaller sibling).
The draft may have had some influence but Hanratty is a legacy recruit and Springmann was a big ND fan long before he was offered.

I don't remember Springmann being mentioned as a guy who was a high likelihood target for Michigan.
I just want to say I personally played against Springmann and i don't think this is a big loss for Michigan. I think we have much better targets on our board. Also he was bound to go to Notre Dame he plays for Bishop Dwenger which has sent now three players in a row to Notre Dame. It is turning into kind of a tradition for the high school. I can't wait to see us get some top talent lineman this year though.
