Zoltan Mesko Drafted in 5th round (150th Overall)

Mesko selected #19 in the 5th round by the Jupiter Giants or New England Patriots Instant draft analysis from ESPN
The Patriots had an obvious need at punter and this is a decisive move to fill it. At this point in the draft, any player the team selected would be a fringe player for a roster spot, and that's why the team must have felt comfortable investing the choice in a specialist. While Mesko could face competition from a veteran free-agent signing after June 1, he must now be viewed as the clear-cut favorite to be punting for New England in the season opener against the Bengals based on this significant investment of draft pick/salary.

it's just that some people seem to post on it out of glee/OHMANIKNEWHE'DBUST guy wanted to go pro. he played admirably at UM and should have his hand shaken on the way out instead of people dancing on the grave proclaiming how big of a mistake he made. he may very well be drafted in the next 2 rounds, btw, as he's one of the highest scoring draft workouts remaining at the position.

It depends on where you are, though. Can't tell you the number of times I've wanted to watch a Patriots game (being a Pats fan in AA) only to get the Jets, Colts or Chiefs (or some other random team from the other side of the country). So yea...it's not just because it's CBS. Being in CT has a lot to do with it because the Pats are kinda their team too.

... rip Tom that he was drafted way before he was! And Zoltan only needs a much hotter model GF (who hasn't been bedded by Leo Decapitated) to really make Tom feel jealous! Way to go ZOLTAN!

Nice. Good move by the Pats too. I can't believe it's the 6th round and Warren is still on the board. I bet he wouldn't have left if he knew he wouldn't get taken until at least the 6th.

this is a pretty cool thing for Zolton
He speaks four languages, but when told the punter's stall is next to Tom Brady's in the New England Patriots locker room, Zoltan Mesko was rendered speechless -- briefly. Icon SMI Zoltan Mesko, a Ray Guy Award finalist, was a bright spot for Michigan this season. "Oh, wow," Mesko said. Mesko, the Patriots' colorful new punter, is a native of Romania and the son of a former pro bowler (not a Pro Bowler) who emigrated to the U.S. when he was in middle school. Mesko became a huge Brady fan when he enrolled at Michigan, Brady's alma mater. "Well, that's the crazy part, transitioning from being ..." Mesko said, his voice trailing off moments after being drafted by the Patriots in the fifth round. "Tom Brady, from a fan's perspective, is my favorite player in the whole NFL, just because he has that Michigan tie, and he's done such a great job overcoming being drafted in the sixth round. "It's crazy how much he's done and how many people he's proved wrong. That's my philosophy in life. I get motivated more about the negative things that are said about me. I like to prove myself that way. I'd love to model myself after Tom Brady, so maybe getting to know him a little more will help that mind-set." Brady was selected in the sixth round, 199th overall in 2000. The Patriots drafted Mesko 49 slots earlier than they took Brady. A reporter asked Mesko if he would bring that up to Brady. "I was just thinking that, but I didn't want to mention it," Mesko said. "No, no. I won't. It's not about how you start. It's how you finish."
