The Brandon Peters Decision

Submitted by MGoVoldemort on
Like most everyone on the board, my knee-jerk reaction to O'Korn last night belonged nowhere near civil society. That being said, my more calm, rational perspective having returned this morning, I still think it's time for the Peters era to begin at Michigan. So much so that I can't convince myself that there's a tangible reason for O'Korn to still be the starter. What say you?

Hard to disagree -- but I am worried that the inference to be drawn from all this is that Peters is measurably worse than O'Korn who is measurably worse than Speight.  Utter speculation -- but I'm a bit worried if correct.

You are likely correct.  There is a reason JOK was #2 and Peters #3.  Simply that Speight > O'korn who is > Peters.  Speight is a much better game manager than JOK and a game manager is what was needed for a win yesterday.  That and Isacc not to drop the fucking ball as a 5th yr senior on a play that should never cause you to fumble.

O'Korn was considered a viable 1b to Wilton. When Speight threw back to back INTs against Florida, the coaches didn't hesitate to sit him and let him collect himself.

When O'Korn threw back to back picks, he was sent back out to throw another. And still, not even a shot of Peters warming up on the sidelines.

That should tell you everything about how ready Peters is to the coaches right now.

Learn what? Honestly. Everyone keeps saying he’s going to learn, but what do you really think he’s going to learn?

Given what this fan base has seen happen with Gardner, Speight, and O’Korn when they get stuck behind a bad OL, all Peters or McCaffrey is going to learn is how to get happy feet and bad habits.

Alabama doesn’t have the same kind of fucking stupid we do on this coaching staff that calls 11 out of 14 pass plays during the middle of a goddamn monsoon. I don’t put any of those three picks on O’Korn. The coaches asked him to thrown in conditions you can’t throw, and then the most obvious outcome happened.

If that same kind of dumbfuckery happened on Alabama’s sideline, Saban would have ripped out his OC’s heart on the spot.

This ×100. It takes a large amount of stupidity to pass the ball in those conditions. Remember when we all made fun of Brian Kelly for passing in similar weather last year against NC State? Higdon was the hot hand and we abandoned him during the monsoon. O'Korn was not good but this is a massive coaching fail.

not sure it matters if he is the "long term answer" at this point. Speight is out, O'Korn threw three picks last night and looked generally incompetent. We need a QB. Speight is out for the season. O'Korn is what we thought he was. What really do we have to lose. We aren't going to Indy. We aren't sniffing the playoff. There is a significant question as to whether Speight will play again here. I mean, what exactly are we doing here? We have a young QB with talent. Let the kid play.

From what I have heard/read, the problem with Peters is his "lack of command" in the huddle. It is obvious that he has the physical talent to be a better option that Speight/O'Korn but he is apparently struggling in some non-physical aspect. I feel he should be given a chance to improve on this apparent weakness in game action. If he still can't overcome whatever this problem is then UM can always go back to O'Korn if they feel they have no better option.

What does that even mean?

Everyone says that about Peters (without any elaboration) and I don’t get what it even means. It sounds like a nonsense made up thing like “hearing football.”

I mean, is he stuttering when he calls the play? Does he freeze up mentally and brain fart? If it was either of those things or something like that it seems like it would’ve been known and he wouldn’t have been such a highly regarded recruit.

So, what on earth could it mean that it’s so bad it makes him a no-go but it’s not something that was known about him as a recruit?

It just seems like such a weird / vague situation.

there's a good chance youre right but i don't think you can be 100% sure about a second year QB..

FFS Tom fuckin' Brady probably wasn't ready his year two in Ann Arbor.

And lets be honest, Griese didnt seem like anything special until his Senior year, so its not like he was behind some worldeater at the time.

Of hearing this shit about the “ O “ line. There is absolutely no downfield passing game so if any intelligent defensive co ordinator watched a UM game tape, he could see stacking the box and blitzing a good amount of time will reduce the line to shit. Oh wait, we’ve still got that “ out of bounds “ fade pass, that’ll loosen up the D and take some pressure off of the O line.

Crawford is just not getting it done.  He just doesn't make any plays.  He can't go up with a defender and come down with the ball.  We have had guys that can make those plays going back to Roundtree and Hemingway and then onto Chesson/Darboh.  Right now we just don't have a jump ball guy that can make a play.

This is the same logic that gave us O'Korn over Speight.  Now we know why Harbaugh chose Speight instead of O'Korn.  We need to trust and believe that Harbaugh is going to go with the guy who gives us the best chance to win.

Really?? You do? Let us see who he didn't develop. Speight was a 3* for a reason. He learned in Hoke era and probably hit his ceiling. JOK was benched his sophomore year for a reason. We had no option. Harbaugh has to build the QB. Look what he did with Rudock. He was benched by Iowa. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't.

If we don't have a decent QB couple of years from now tell us. Until then, stop bashing Harbaugh about QB development. He has a proven track record.

Is harbaugh sure as shit can’t call plays, the offense and play calls and routes the receivers run r horrible. It’s fucking pouring rain so let’s all run 15 yards down field and throw into a zone= 3 ints, drevno and Hamilton need to go, harbaugh needs take a $3 mil pay cut and offer jedd fisch $3 mil to come back

JOK is not good. Go ahead and stick with him and this team will end up 7-5 or 6-6 at best. Makes bad decisions such as throwing into coverage and taking sacks when he should throw it away. He gets happy feet right away or holds on way too long. He's atrocious, probably the worst quarterback on our roster. No, I will not simply trust in Harbaugh. I have eyes and he is fallible just like the rest of us. Peters needs to start if he is ever going to play here. If not, he might as well transfer next season so we can go straight to McCaffrey.

The best chance to win in 2017 or the best chance to win in future seasons? The current state of the offense rules out a great season this year. Which means this year is about the future and that future will not have O'Korn in it. I mean fine, stick with O'Korn through PSU. If you beat IN and PSU then great. But once you have a 2nd conference loss, this season is effectively done.
