If there's any positive it was the punting and kicking. Really well done by Michigan in some nasty stuff. I'd give it a A-

Our return team for kicks and punts are pretty awful. We're bleeding yards left and right, the exact opposite of last year with Peppers.

confident. hesitant to attack ball - playing not to make a mistake.

He’s a true freshman......

DPJ is a talented true freshman. Who also happens to be a starting WR. And might be the #1 WR, depending on who you ask.
Peppers is a crazy genius football savant, who could somehow do damn near everything at high level and needed - by all reports - less than 10 minutes to internalize coaching concepts.
DPJ will be awesome. But to penalize him for not being Jabrill Peppers...is harsh

I'd give DPJ a pass tonight considering the conditions. MSU's returners were barely able to catch the ball at all

In general, yes. Tonight seemed ok. Crawford had a good return tonight. Nothing tragic happened on punt returns.

Who's got it better than us?

Please stop returning kickoffs out of the endzone

Set up our one TD with good KO coverage, followed by a good punt. Otherwise a very quiet night. Wish we could have gotten one of the punts we almost blocked but it was one of those nights, bounce wise.

Perhaps this is for the coaching thread, but why did we not go for two after we scored the touchdown? I'm perplexed.
October 7th, 2017 at 11:57 PM ^
Early in the game to chase points. Given the conditions, probably assumed a FG would be a near impossibility in all situations but a PAT length kick. In which case you go for the win anyway?
October 8th, 2017 at 12:14 AM ^
Just to give Nordin a chance to win the game. Nordin has been a stud this season. Given that the offense has struggled to move the ball all night long, asking them to score a TD to win the game is a bit much to ask for. You have an elite defense and I'd trust them to get the team into good position to win the game on OT.

Well we missed out on the 50/50 muff. I thought we got good pressure on the punts and almost blocked one, without having a running or roughing call. Wasn’t a fan of Ambry returning kicks out of the endzone.

That would have won the game
October 8th, 2017 at 1:10 AM ^
They punted right after and we scored, so it was basically a wash.

Watching the game and the announcer says “it’s a low kick,” DPJ fields the ball and there are four white shirts around him and nary a blue one. WTF?
October 8th, 2017 at 12:08 AM ^
I think we were super concerned that Dantonio would try to fake one. That's a tendency of his that probably leads to more punt safe return calls against them.
October 8th, 2017 at 12:01 AM ^
Only areas to improve:
1. Punting was mediocre. It wasn’t terrible but a couple of times we had chances to make MSU field position worse and it seemed we couldn’t get the ball closer to the goal line.
2. DPJ really can make some plays but seems a bit unnerved at times. I find myself feeling anxious every time he’s about to receive a punt. Never felt that with Peppers

DPJ is freshman; give him a break. Really, he and Nordin outplayed MSU's ST's equivalents, and, it's not even close. Heap the blame elsewhere. I'll call punting a draw.
October 8th, 2017 at 2:02 AM ^
Not too much to say. No big problems really, I’m not gonna worry about punts due to those winds, and kicking was fine.
DPJ needs to be our full time return guy. Kekoa Crawford looked weak on kick returns today. He was hesitant and soft.
Yeah, problems are really just offense-based.
