It's crazy having these guys getting thrown out of really important games becuase of these very borderline targeting calls, some of which are nearly impossible for the player to avoid. Make it multiple offenses, or even 1 half would be way better.

How many offensive players have you seen called for targeting and ejected?  Put another way, how many times do you see a ball carrier put down his helmet and dive forward into the defender?

The targeting rule is completely and utterly arbitrary.  Speight is knocked out of a game, and possibly the season, because a defender strikes him, a defenseless player, in the head and neck region and the hit isn't even reveiwed much less flagged.  A few years ago Joe Bolden is pushed from behind and barely nicks the helmet of a ball carrier and is ejected from the game.  So why wasn't the offensive player that pushed Bolden similiarly ejected?  After all, it was he that initiated the "targeting."

The only reason any player should be thrown out of a game is for something truly egregious (either a single, uncondonable event or a series of flagrant events). This is not professional sports (yet) and most of these guys (especially at the mid-tier P5 programs and below) will probably never play again after their college days. Let them have fun out there and play the game as it is. They're all old enough to know the risks but still choose to play - let them at least enjoy it.

Love the Thursday and Friday night appetizers. The grand feast is tomorrow. I am drinking various Oktoberfests.

very nice.

slumming with cheapo red pop, a pinot noir, and a quinoa and egg (and cheese) burrito after oldest son's football game.  will be coaching tomorrow in the rain.  no worries, its one of those things i know i will miss when the kids are gone.

Bell's Best Brown. And I'm watching Interstellar with my kids. My 7 year old seems genuinely intrigued by relativity, and I don't know how to tell him about it without boring him.

Panama is playing dirty AF. Cheap shots, cheap shots everywhere.

I know there's flopping in soccer (especially men's soccer), but some of this stuff is ridiculous.

I keep saying it, there is NO reason there shouldn't be another ref on the field. That way someone is always in front of and behind the play.
