OT: Halloween fun
Well, It's the best time of year! Football is in full swing... Michigan is going to stomp Sparty under the lights on prime time, Lions are doing their annual fluffing of the fans by getting some wins and looking good early, and the Pistons and Red wings have a new home in LCA (which is absolutely gorgeous, what an upgrade for both teams!)
So this brings me to my questions... what haunted attractions in Michigan are your favorites? Which are scariest and which ones are duds? Favorite cider mill?
Personally, I grew up going to Montrose Apple Orchard... so I make it a point to go there once or twice a year to get a bag of fresh apple and pumpkin donuts. My lady likes to go for the local craft tent sale on the 15th of October. As far as haunted attractions I'm a fan of Wiards in Ypsi... I think they do a great job every year. What say you MgoBrethern and Sistren?

Grew up going to the Franklin Cider Mill with the family every fall - pictures of that place bring back some damn good memories. When we lived in Ann Arbor, we would go to the Dexter Cider Mill a couple of times each fall. Great cider and donuts, and their frozen apple pies were ridiculously good.
South Dakota? Not so much...

I'll have to stop their and pick some up... I know Dexter Cider Mill is a state favorite. It gets brought up every time I ask this question! I'm going to give it a shot for sure.

...PIE IS NEVER FREE!!!
You shouldn’t give away your pie with breakfast. Makes you look cheap.

Franklin cider mill. We go there at least a few times each year. Mostly to feed the ducks.
October 5th, 2017 at 9:35 AM ^
about shaving pussies.
My mistake.

As a guy who likes their pussy left the way it was meant to be

Spit out a little coffee there....

I thought I was going to be the one to derail the thread, but the mad hatter lives up to his name.
October 5th, 2017 at 1:07 PM ^
is OK after the mad shaver went after her. I wonder why that thread was deleted?

For lunch in high school... Good times.
October 5th, 2017 at 10:44 AM ^
when you got to 'feed the ducks'?

when you got to 'feed the ducks'?
Twice.
October 5th, 2017 at 12:53 PM ^
Wow, you must be young. At my age I can only feed the ducks once.

About to become an MgoBlogism

Grew up close by, and always loved visiting and watching the cider being made. Nothing better than cider and doughnuts in the fall.
October 5th, 2017 at 11:28 AM ^
YES!!!
I grew up 5 min from the Franklin Cider Mill and LOVED going there. When I was in town for AF/Michigan, I picked up cider and donuts from there to take to my tailgate and it was like stepping back in time. So dang good... Miss that place so much.
EDIT: I do not feed ducks in public.
October 5th, 2017 at 9:12 AM ^
Seconded on Wiards. That place is fun to walk arounds and their donuts are amazing.
October 5th, 2017 at 9:23 AM ^
Are pretty damn good... I like to take them home and warm them up and wash it down with some cider. I'm heading there tomorrow for their 4 attractions... unless someone has better recommendations? But The lay out of the place is huge for a "haunted park"... almost carnival like.

We have a place up here called Johnsons giant pumpkin farm. They have a lot to do including a corn maze, giant catapult that catapults giant pumpkins and great cider and donuts. It's a lot of fun except when it's jam packed.

The Bunny Ranch during Halloween is always a great time.

Great minds... LOL!!

Great deal on drinks. The Spiced BJ shots are to die for.
October 5th, 2017 at 10:39 AM ^
Keep your crunch berries to your self, you hear? Don't be offering to crunchatize anyone... that'll get you arrested.
October 5th, 2017 at 9:21 AM ^
especially this time of year, really make me miss Michigan. Parmenter's in Northville is also quite good. I don't really care for scary stuff, so I can't recommend any haunted haunts.
October 5th, 2017 at 9:32 AM ^
To rub it in your face... but this time of year makes me feel grateful for growing up here and laying the foundation for staying here for life. Trying to get up to Oscoda one more time this year to hit Huron National Forest next weekend. Nothing like sitting up high on the dunes seeing the leaves change color across Cookes Dam. Recommend everyone check it out!

The problem with Franklin is they are now charging around $10 for a gallon of cider.
October 5th, 2017 at 9:31 AM ^
Always thought their cider and spiced donuts were better than Franklin or Dexter
October 5th, 2017 at 9:34 AM ^
Spiced donuts you say? I'm probably going to put on 10 lbs from all these Cider Mills I have to try lol
October 5th, 2017 at 9:37 AM ^
that all cider and donuts taste pretty much the same. Neither are really my thing (exceptions for paczki and that Chinese donut place on Woodward).
But I love me a good apple pie.
October 5th, 2017 at 9:46 AM ^
Have dulled your palate Hatter? Idk how close you are to Oxford MI... but Achatz Pie Co. is the bomb diggity! You can get pie by the slice, I believe 3 and get one free. Unfortunately it's right next to my gym...
October 5th, 2017 at 10:03 AM ^
so Oxford isn't out of the question, but I'm a big apple pie snob. I really only like my own.
With French vanilla ice cream.
October 5th, 2017 at 10:30 AM ^
But man, they have some other flavors that are mind blowing. I'm a fan of their banana cream, Michigan triple berry pie and their turtle pecan pie is the shit. Plus with their buy some get one it's a good way to try flavors you'd otherwise not try. I hated key lime (sorry Cesar Ruiz) until I tried theirs
October 5th, 2017 at 10:44 AM ^
Achatz? Any relation to the famous chef Grant Achatz of Chicago?
October 5th, 2017 at 11:01 AM ^
To go there today and pick up a couple slices... I'll tell them Jasper is asking.
October 5th, 2017 at 9:41 AM ^
Parmenter's is a great cider mill for kids. There is a petting zoo, a locomotive ride, hay ride, playscape, and plenty of pumpkins to purchase. The only downfall is they don't sell apples, u-pick or otherwise.
October 5th, 2017 at 9:51 AM ^
That's sounds a little Blasphemous...
October 5th, 2017 at 9:42 AM ^
Old school Dutch Lifehack: Hot Apple pie with a slice of good sharp cheddar on top.
October 5th, 2017 at 9:51 AM ^
when I see cheese on a pie I go running for the hills!
October 5th, 2017 at 9:50 AM ^
Time to blare the Bloody Kisses and October Rust albums!!!

Hello 1993... holy shit. Between them and Smashing Pumpkins... that was my childhood. (When mom wasn't around, thanks dad!)

Type O was such an under rated band. I miss Pete Steele terribly!
October 5th, 2017 at 10:32 AM ^
Welllllll I mean there's a couple songs I wasn't aloud to listen to on Bloddy kises if I remember correctly. Not exactly main stream lmao

I use a pic of Dantinio's scowl to keep kids off my lawn
October 5th, 2017 at 9:58 AM ^
I'm sure there always 3-9 kids lining up at your door either way
October 5th, 2017 at 10:01 AM ^
For those of you in or around Ann Arbor, the best apple cider you'll find is Kapnick Orchards. They have a large spread at A2 Farmers Market, or visit the orchard near Tecumseh. The baked goods aren't anything special, but there is no competition for their cider.
My dad worked for them as a kid and continued to work for them at the Market through his time at UM. They are a wonderful family and that makes it easy to support local business.
October 5th, 2017 at 10:01 AM ^
Are the Northville Tunnels still a thing? Growing up, those were always good for some scares.
October 5th, 2017 at 10:22 AM ^
McMansions built over that area now.
