Michigan suspended Nate Johnson over the weekend. This is why:

ANN ARBOR -- Michigan football player Nate Johnson was arrested over the weekend by campus police following an alleged assault.

Diane Brown, spokesperson for the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security, told MLive on Monday that Johnson, 19, was arrested on campus in the early morning hours of Saturday for an attack on a female student.

Details of the incident were not immediately clear, but the alleged victim was located at a dorm room on campus, Brown said.

Unless Harbaugh alters his previous approach in these situations, Johnson won't play until the court case is resolved and there's a high probability this is the end of his career in Ann Arbor.

Let’s let it play out before we make conclusions. If he gets charged, kick him off and open up a scholarship for next years recruiting class (we need room).

I'm curious what the "assault" amounts to.  If it's sexual assault or domestic violence, I've got no problem with Johnson being kicked off the team and out of school.  No place for that at Michigan.

But let's let the facts roll in.  "Assault" can mean, IIRC, virtually any unwelcome touching.  And if a man and a woman push one another, 9/10 times the man's going to get charged regardless of how it evolved.

Are title IX courts stIll a thing? I honestly did not read those news stories about the changes within the ed department on this stuff last week, because I find it depressing how incompetent the whole process often seems.

And yet you throw it away. Let's not throw away the young man if he is salvageable. Two sides to every legal story, it is possible he was attacked or the accusation is false. In any event, health and healing to the parties involved. And please take my advice as a lawyer, albeit a mere patent lawyer:  avoid the legal system, particularly the criminal aspect, with all effort. Once in it, you can be pretty much tarnished for life. 0.02

I hope it's not like a Mixon at Oklahoma type situation, doubtful there would be any film of it because it wasn't in a public place like a restaurant or coffee shop.

Let's hope this was a very low level situation that all parties can move on from in a mentallly and emotionally healthy way

Nate Johnson was my favorite recruit out his class and I was sure he was going to do great things here. Seems the opposite has taken place.

So a lot of people are saying 'Bye'...  Do you guys not remember Grant Perry?  He was also arrested for assault.  I don't recall the initial revulsion to kick Grant off the campus for his transgression.

Do you guys also not remember Jordan Lewis?  He was arrested for domestic violence, granted it was after his career was done.  But nobody here said 'fuck, Lewis, he should be incarcerated'...

Let this run its course through the court system - like we allowed for Grant and Jordan.  In time, the story will leak and we can make an informed opinion.  For now, lets hope everyone involved is okay, and trust Harbaugh to handle this as well as he's handled other legal problems with young men just moved away from home for the first time.

Honestly not trying to get political here. I know the burden of proof on campus was in the news recently, but is there a slightly less burden of proof on campus? Or do I have this all wrong.

Also hoping the victim is ok if true.

There's no court system to contest the county's jurisdiction.  Title IX investigations and hearings, like all investigations and hearing of alleged violations of the student code of conduct, are administrative and run in parallel to any criminal court legal process.

why are we out in the first place, on scholarship? Michigan? we go out during the season? even on bye weeks? where is the leadership?

if it's true, burn 'em

First, per the story, whatever allegedly took place took place in a dorm.  So that's not really "going out".

Second, are you seriously suggesting that kids don't have a right to go out during the season?  That's a bit harsh.  Sure, they should not be getting wasted and/or acting the fool, but not going out at all?

Third, "burn 'em"?  That sounds ... / wait for it / ... incendiary.  But I don't even know what person or persons "'em" is referring to.

I think a lot of the comments writing the kid off are a reaction to the vehemence with which we condemned the Staee 3, uh, 4, uh, however many.
Suspension is clearly warranted. Once the case plays out, I have no doubt JH will do what's appropriate. Let's hope it's a Jourdan Lewis type situation and not a Frank Clark.

If he's guilty, he should be gone.  Zero tolerance, and I know that is harsh but if you assaulted another person late at night, there should be consequences.

Hopefully this gets resolved quickly and correctly.

I'll be honest, I'd have to see.  If this is another Perry situation, where it (seemingly) was more incidential contact and not, like, what Frank Clark was guilty of, sure.  But I would have been fine had Perry been booted as well.  I have little tolerance for people injuring other people , alcohol and "this is college" aside.
