Just Ace and Jamie since sick Brian was done being a jackhammer. What happens in a game versus Vegas hopefully stays in Vegas. What happens at night in Kinnick fortunately stays there too. Maryland on its fourteenth starting quarterback in six years loses to Scott Frost, who’s going to have a better job than UCF next year. Speaking of, Nebraska is horrible. Michigan State nearly loses their quarterback in a valiant attempt to win with dignity. Blocky-catchy offense FTW!

Knock on wood - our defense matches up perfectly to stop a Penn State offense.
1. Give the RB no room to work with
2. Give the QB no time to chuck it down field
Penn State's offensive concepts are simple and rely alot on either a really good RB to do all the work or chuck the ball down field and let their bigger bodied receivers win a jump ball. Check downs to Barkley on passing plays almonst always turn into big gains. This is where Bush will make his money.
I dont think their defense has really been tested yet so for me thats still a TBD

The Solid Verbal is fine, but like a lot of these types of general-purpose podcasts that are part of larger media networks, you get some big narrative discussion and that's it. Maybe they catch half a game here or there, read some box scores, etc. PSU looked fine against Iowa, but in the two games where they played P5 programs they looked very beatable. And Iowa's defense isn't all that good; my guess is that PSU is going to be shocked by the speed and efficiency of Michigan's front 7, to say nothing of the secondary. PSU may well win the conference, but it's not going to be in a walk.

I don't love the Solid Verbal. I listen because I'm an addict of the game, but I like to either have good analysis or good humor. Shutdown Fullcast provides good humor, but not real analysis. Solid Verbal doesn't really give either.
I heard them say this and I seriously disagree that this is something you can seriously contend at this point. I don't think Penn State has a better chance of winning the conference than us, OSU or Wisconsin at this point.

Does anyone else have trouble with listening to these? The content is great but every other sentence trails off to mumblecore unless I turn the volume up super loud and focus exclusively on this.
Makes great background listening at work but for this flaw.

Now that there is only this PodBean option, I can no longer listen to these at work, it's blocked.
Pretty disappointing. I've always been able to play the previous versions.

Yeah that's an effect of the podcast being on a service rather than our own servers. The upside though is that we're not forcing our poor site's server to feed 10,000 to 20,000 copies of a 65-mb file all at the same time.
Some ways around that at work:

I always post the link to the mp3 file. You should be able to just download that and play it on any music player.
- Subscribe using a podcast app like iTunes or (what i use on my android) Podcast Republic. it should skip your work's computers altogether and then you just play it off your phone.
If you can't use your company wifi and don't want to spend the data on your plan, the podcasts are always uploaded to podbean late late at night and on a regular schedule, so just check your phone before you leave the house in the morning and download it then. The article won't post until 8-ish on Mondays, Fridays and (on gamedays) Saturdays. But the podcast goes up between 7pm and 1 am the night before.

Yeah, I hoped that would work, but that is hosted by PodBean as well and is blocked. Is there any other place to host the mp3 for download only?
The Audioboom and Youtube live stuff works and whatever the old player was (I'm guessing that was you guys hosting). Seems like anything that has "pod" in the URL is gonna get blocked at the corporate level (is stitcher.com a thing you could use?). Also, whatever Shutdown Fullcast uses works.
Oh well, I appreciate any content I still can get, and the job you guys do. It's like most image content is now delivered via Twitter or imgur and gets blocked as well, so half of all sports content isn't accessible anymore.
How is one to get through a long day at work?! :p

Yes, the volume levels are messed up. I can barely hear the podcast on full volume. Then Commercials destroy my eardrums.

I tend not to listen to these, mainly for that reason -- there frequently are mumbles / volume issues which makes listening to it more difficult than it needs to be.
Plus, while I obviously like the focus on Michigan and the Big Ten, Brian & co talking about sports is not as strong as their writing about it (the lack of editing shows), so I continue to come back to it every 3 or 4 weeks b/c I think it will be better, but it's not.

It's good to know I'm not alone.
The levels are bad. And the mumblecore is real. And it's not just here. Brian occasionally tends to go into "I'm saying something profound" mode and his voice lowers to unhearable levels on WTKA as well as these podcasts.
I love these and want them to continue, but I really dislike having to constantly adjust the volume level to listen to them comfortably.

I listen to a bunch of podcasts and the only one i think beats our production quality is Hardcore History--and that guy's been at it way longer and takes ages to clean it up before posting.
We run the whole podcast through a compressor 3 times but yeah, Brian has a pretty deep voice and he tends to modulate it a huge amount, so when David's in there editing he would have to take hours upon hours to manually bring all of those up, or run a process that destroys all the nuance and sounds terrrible. What can you do: he's a football expert, not a radio voice. Would you rather have my higher, easier to hear voice with less football knowledge?
This week I think it was especially pronounced for three reasons:

WTKA recorded Matt's new ad, not us, so they maximized the volume on that and I just used it. Radio listeners are used to these walloping loud ads being 1/4 more decibels than the content but not podcast listeners with their earbuds in. When I made that the first read of the 2nd break it was jarring.
- Brian was really sick this week. We cut out all the hacking and stuff but you know how you sound when you've got a flu: now imagine trying to talk for 2 hours like that. The vast majority of that recording then is in the lows, where even high volume is hard to hear for an eardrum that's been in use for 30+ years
So when you put 1 after 2 you got a huge difference. We've instructed David to be more careful of that, and to include the ads when he compresses the podcast.

i can't think of a single good reason why the guy singing the golden girls' theme song isn't used every week.
