Brady Quinn/Fox announcing was...not great Bob
I was pretty unimpressed with the announcing team, and Brady Quinn in particular.
This isn't the standard "He went to Notre Dame, he flamed out in the NFL, he sucks" type of critique. But it seemed like he did no research ahead of this game, and just generally is not very observant. The short version is:
Not doing his research, and not picking up on little details throughout the game, you can see indications of why he was not a successful NFL QB. He's still new at this, so maybe he'll improve but I thought this was pretty poor for what I assume is one of their top announcing teams. Other folks' thoughts?
A few examples that stuck out:
-Amid the wondering why Ty Isaac wasn't getting more carries, they don't mention that he was injured last week until like the fifth time they drone on about his limited attempts.
-On the Speight injury, it takes like four replays for Brady to suggest that MAYBE it was the second hit that caused the injury, which I'm guessing basically everyone saw live or at worst on the first replay.
-Confusing Robbins for Nordin for two quarters. Ok, they have the same number. Still, Hart has struggled, Robbins is the clear backup....again, a tiny bit of study of the teams you're covering would put you on notice for this change.
-On the ineligible man downfield, they correctly identified that it would have been bogus on Hill, but then just moved on, then later on show no replay when they finally suggest it was on someone else. Compare that to the diligence that happened on the garbage ineligible receiver call in the Florida game.

FOX drove a freaking HAR-bus around before the 2015 season, before they even had the rights to the B1G games. I don't think they hate CJH.

Third; no they weren't.

Matt Millon seems to diagnose the play instantly, so actually provides decent analysis during the game. Quinn seemed slower with his statements and didn't provide anything that was something beyond what the viewer is already seeing. Play by play guy seemed ok. We will see if Quinn can provide more as the season progresses.

stupid and arrogant at times. Brady Quinn is new and it shows. I'm not sure what Brock Huard contributes and I don't like his pairing with Millen.
Trying to be objective, announcers generally seem worse when they are working Michigan's games. That's because I know more about the team and spot more of their mistakes. It's kind of like watching movies when you know too much about the subject.

liked him too, but I always came away with the impression that he did not like Michigan. I don't really know why, he just seemed fairly antagonistic toward Michigan when he did our games.

Millen is clearly differant when he does a Michigan game, and when he does a OSU game. There is pretty huge contrast to how he is talking about the teams. Michigan held AF's tripple option to like 98 yards when he said something along the lines of " Michigan just can't figure out this triple option." Then later, he kept saying he was very impressed with the AF offense when Michigan helf them to the lowest production in 5 years.
Meanwhile, throughout the OSU game he was sluring all over OSU when they were playing against a bottom 10 FBS team. Moreover, he said OSU will only get better because they are younge, but never mentioned this the week before with Michigan, who is the youngest team in the country.

Brock is a blowhard tho. I can't stand his annoying concern troll voice.

My problem with them was on the targeting call on the hit on Eubanks. They keeps debating if it was or wasn't targeting and showing clips of the hit, but never discussed if Eubanks was OK. After the shot of Eubanks on the ground with trainers around him, they didn't mention him or show any footage of him being treated or being taken off the field.

This was disgusting. But it's not on the empty suits. There should be an adult in their earpieces telling them what to do. The producer or whoever that is did a horrible job, and not only with that. They also failed to show the right replays at the right times throughout the game. If I were in charge of Fox, whoever has overarching responsibility for the production would be replaced going forward.

Jon06 is right, it was the entire production team, from producer to camera people to announcers. While Quinn didn't seem to have done his homework, repeating the basic things anyone reading a day of MGoBlog would know, the replays seemed random, and little that was said or done helped enhance what we saw.

At one point he said Nordin was kicking 70 AND 80 yarders in practice. Well shit. No need to cross midfield anymore.
September 25th, 2017 at 9:35 AM ^
The 80s yarders comment was pure gold, especially because they immediately doubled down on the mistake and started trying to do math out loud about what yardline that meant we needed to get to in order to be "in range."

Sickening really. Particularly after nary a word on the second Speight hit forcing him out of the game.
September 25th, 2017 at 9:21 AM ^
Yeah, he was talking about how fans were clamoring for O'Korn anyway while Speight was injured on the ground surrounded by trainers. Not classy.

still be drunk. Matt Millen is the worst football announcer EVER. If he knew anything about football talent ... (see below)
"After his playing career, Millen was President and chief executive officer of the Detroit Lions from 2001 until week 4 of the 2008 NFL season. His eight-year tenure as head of the franchise led to the worst eight-year record in the history of the modern NFL". nuff said ..

...because the ability to run the front office of an NFL franchise directly correlates with the ability to diagnose and analyze a play/provide color commentary...
Matt Millen isn't that bad, he's not the greatest, but he gets a bad rap I think because so many of you guys are Lions fans. Brady Quinn however, was awful- he seemed like he didn't do any research and had a rhudementary understanding of what was going on.
September 25th, 2017 at 4:00 AM ^
At one point he said "Michigan has no true tight ends on their roster." Then a bit later, "Michigan has a ton of tight ends."
I turned off the sound in the second half.

But the Fox broadcast was either pore-o-vision with a closeup of O'Korn's nose or a view from outer space. I don't get it - they don't do this for NFL games. Show the formations, show the men in motion.
