Opinion Piece - Devin Bush B10 Defensive POY Case
Got that sunday afterglow after a nice win yesterday!
I dont think enough can be said about the impact Devin Bush Jr has on this football team. Whether its blitzing, being able to drop back in coverage, physically intimidating opponents, and his energy & leadership, he brings so much to the table for the 2017 Wolverines. He may be the fastest player on this defense as well, football speed wise. His postgame interviews are gems (When he proclaimed the defense decided during halftime "Lets go bust them in their mouths"). Him and Metellus bring a swagger out there that is very evident and exciting for this team. Once he starts getting his strip sack going and generating turnovers it'll be even better. Hes been close on a couple and those are game changing plays. I can already see him neutralizing McSorley in a spy role and lighting him up in prime time in a couple weeks.
Thoughts on his case for Big Ten Defensive Player of The Year? Who is his competition at this point?

it's still September...
September 24th, 2017 at 1:51 PM ^
Tradition amongst Michigan fans. Whether it’s the September Heisman, or September DPOY.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:08 PM ^
Tate Forcier isn't giving his up without a fight.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:23 PM ^
I believe he has at least one, maybe two!
September 24th, 2017 at 1:51 PM ^
He will be considered for sure if he keeps it up.
September 24th, 2017 at 1:51 PM ^
Or chase winovich, either/ or
September 24th, 2017 at 1:51 PM ^
Chill out

Let’s see how he does against PSU and OSU.
He’s played lights out thus far and deserves to be commended for it, but I want to see him make those kinds of plays against big time opponents. Not just the fucking scrubs like Purdue.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:12 PM ^
In fairness, Florida wasn't a roster full of scrubs. They have good players, just not good coaching.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:17 PM ^
Okay fine. I want to see him do to OSU what he's done to Purdue, Air Force, Cincinnati and Florida. OSU has great players and great coaching.
He does that, along with keeping up his level of play through the rest of the year, them he's definitely got my vote for DPOY.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:16 PM ^
but he's on the right trajectory.
September 24th, 2017 at 4:30 PM ^
Given Devin's ability and play style for always taking great angles, this comment is perfect.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:16 PM ^
He’s got my vote
September 24th, 2017 at 2:27 PM ^
Cool you got a vote. Kidding
September 24th, 2017 at 2:18 PM ^
If he keeps playing how he is (and hopefully continues to improve) then it's definitely possible. IMO I don't think we should rule out Winovich either.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:22 PM ^
I think Penn St. might come down to Bush vs. Barkley.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:26 PM ^
Was just thinking about that watching Jewell vs Barkley last night. That game is going to be so much fun. Dont think Barkley can slash us like he does others because of our triangle of athleticism between Mike LB and 2 DEs. very athletic.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:34 PM ^
and not McCray, I'll be happy.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:54 PM ^
I know you're not talking about McCray as a defender!
September 24th, 2017 at 10:00 PM ^
McCray just looks slow. I think he is playing fine though.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:24 PM ^
Bunch of ninnies around here. There is a strong case for Bush as DPOY right now. Jewell is probably the main competition. The season is already 1/3 over so it's not too early.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:57 PM ^
Ninnies?
September 24th, 2017 at 6:13 PM ^
There's still a feeling amongst Michigan fans, and especially around these parts, that bad things happen as the season progresses.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:40 PM ^
He is an inspiring leader. It's great to see him flying around like a heat seeking missile.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:54 PM ^
but that was our 1st B1G game...it's looking more like Winovich as of now.
September 24th, 2017 at 3:06 PM ^
Hes gonna be in the running for sure
September 24th, 2017 at 3:06 PM ^
Barkley is a far bigger threat than Arm Punt McSorely.. and I don't see Don Brown using his best blitzer as a spy.
September 24th, 2017 at 4:04 PM ^
I think the case can be made that Bush is the most meaningful defender on the field for the most elite defense in the Big Ten. That should get his name in the mention for post season honors if things keep going this direction.
At the risk of being called stupid, I contend that This years defense is harder hitting that last years to this point. Lewis and Peppers were great and I'm not taking anything away from them. Last years defense was great and the line was stout, but this defense just seems aggressively pissed on every play. They seem tenacious.
September 24th, 2017 at 4:45 PM ^
Yeah the defense is faster on all three levels, hands down. Peppers made it a fight at linebacker but that's it. This defense and offense are growing up right before our eyes.
September 24th, 2017 at 4:55 PM ^
The impact of Hurst, Winowich, and Gary can't be understated either. Bush capitalizes on his role, which is basically a heat-seeking missile.
Schematically, don brown must love this because this gives him another person to potentially blitz with because he doesn't need 4 DL to hold the line.
September 24th, 2017 at 5:39 PM ^
Bush is able to do his job very well because of that front 3-4 linemen. I think Hurst is the real defensive MVP.
September 24th, 2017 at 6:04 PM ^
in my opinion. 3 sacks, 4tfl
September 24th, 2017 at 8:41 PM ^
He benefits from alot of one on ones and pressure from mo hurst up the middle. He should let mo borrow a few sacks of his
September 24th, 2017 at 6:52 PM ^
I call him predator. He is no longer Devin Bush Jr.
September 25th, 2017 at 8:18 AM ^
I don't think Devin Bush has been all that great this season. I think the young man needs at least 3 more seasons of work until he'll be ready to go professional...
psst....do you think that worked?
