Opinion Piece - Devin Bush B10 Defensive POY Case

Submitted by UMich2016 on

Got that sunday afterglow after a nice win yesterday!

I dont think enough can be said about the impact Devin Bush Jr has on this football team.  Whether its blitzing, being able to drop back in coverage, physically intimidating opponents, and his energy & leadership, he brings so much to the table for the 2017 Wolverines.  He may be the fastest player on this defense as well, football speed wise.  His postgame interviews are gems (When he proclaimed the defense decided during halftime "Lets go bust them in their mouths").  Him and Metellus bring a swagger out there that is very evident and exciting for this team.  Once he starts getting his strip sack going and generating turnovers it'll be even better.  Hes been close on a couple and those are game changing plays.  I can already see him neutralizing McSorley in a spy role and lighting him up in prime time in a couple weeks.

Thoughts on his case for Big Ten Defensive Player of The Year?  Who is his competition at this point?

Let’s see how he does against PSU and OSU.

He’s played lights out thus far and deserves to be commended for it, but I want to see him make those kinds of plays against big time opponents. Not just the fucking scrubs like Purdue.

If he keeps playing how he is (and hopefully continues to improve) then it's definitely possible. IMO I don't think we should rule out Winovich either.

Bunch of ninnies around here. There is a strong case for Bush as DPOY right now.  Jewell is probably the main competition. The season is already 1/3 over so it's not too early.

I think the case can be made that Bush is the most meaningful defender on the field for the most elite defense in the Big Ten. That should get his name in the mention for post season honors if things keep going this direction.

At the risk of being called stupid, I contend that This years defense is harder hitting that last years to this point. Lewis and Peppers were great and I'm not taking anything away from them. Last years defense was great and the line was stout, but this defense just seems aggressively pissed on every play. They seem tenacious.

The impact of Hurst, Winowich, and Gary can't be understated either. Bush capitalizes on his role, which is basically a heat-seeking missile.

Schematically, don brown must love this because this gives him another person to potentially blitz with because he doesn't need 4 DL to hold the line.

I don't think Devin Bush has been all that great this season.  I think the young man needs at least 3 more seasons of work until he'll be ready to go professional...

psst....do you think that worked?
