Harbaugh supports freedom of speech
In the post-game interview after today's game, Harbaugh was asked about NFL owners firing players who protest by not singing the national anthem.
Asked Saturday night after a 28-10 win over Purdue if he agrees with President Donald Trump's suggestion that NFL owners "fire" any player seen protesting the national anthem, Harbaugh's answer was quick:
"No, I don't agree with the president," Harbaugh said. "That's ridiculous.
"Check the Constitution."

This will lead to calm and rational discourse.

The climate change exchange in the other thread really got you triggered tonight eh?

Your comment made me burst out laughing.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:25 PM ^
Not the time or place to ask this question.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:37 PM ^
The NFL owners could have salvaged this situation if they didn't blackball Kaep.
Now I wouldn't be surprised if you have more players kneeling than ever.
Good one NFL, good one.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:25 PM ^
I believe the freedom in question is the freedom to protest.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:26 PM ^
In before lock/delete. Also, I'm sick of this shit.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:26 PM ^
Fuck off with the politics, no one gives a shit
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:27 PM ^
Harbaugh did.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:27 PM ^
Oh christ. Here we go again. Wtf is wrong with you people? I wish the mods would wake the fuck up and delete these political threads. This place is insufferable at times. Take this shit somewhere else.

Michigan won!
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:26 PM ^
I was OK when they were kneeling but still singing.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:35 PM ^
They could at least hum.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:26 PM ^
Unfortunately, universities like Michigan don’t care much about freedom of speech these days.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:28 PM ^
Wrong time of year. Delete this thread.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:28 PM ^
This thread is gonna get nuked harder than Pyongyang.
So, while it's up I will say that this isn't remotely a partisan issue. Free speech is free speech is free speech. It's one of the most vital principles of our republic. It doesn't matter if you think Kaep is an idiot and a shitty QB (I happen to), you must absolutely support his and others' right to demonstrate and express peacefully.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:32 PM ^
Now that I realize this is free speech!
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:37 PM ^
He who speaks first is immunized from being subject to free speech from another? In other words, if persona A speaks about X, person B is prohibited from criticizing the speech of A?
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:29 PM ^
For a university that champions itself on diversity, they really struggle embracing and accepting diversity of thought.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:33 PM ^
Wait, what? You're saying that the University should advocate forcing people to be patriotic? The "choose your own viewpoint" is the non-diverse stance?
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:36 PM ^
The University is currently dealing with a PR nightmare given the racist graffiti spree that has been going on in campus dorms and the Rock.
If that's your idea of "diversity of thought," then we got issues.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:29 PM ^
People are going to bitch about this being a thread , but the fact of the matter is , this will be all over the national news in the next week . Also , Jim was asked a question and gave an answer . Don't get mad at him no matter which side you're on
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:29 PM ^
There seem to be people on all sides struggling to understand the concept of "freedom of speech" lately.
This is not hard to figure out.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:35 PM ^
I think the point of it is that the "President of the United States of America" is actively lobbying for people to be fired for exercising their freedom of speech. If an NFL owner said this instead then big deal that's like his opinion man. But the "President of the United States of America" should not be making statements like this at all.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:36 PM ^
But do you think these owners are going to terminate their star employees and risk not winning games over something like this ?
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:30 PM ^
employee, I am going to go find a safe space now.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:34 PM ^
...they actually support the players, and many have said as much.
The president is the one saying they should be fired.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:37 PM ^
There probably is something in the agreement with the NFLPA though.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:30 PM ^
Owners also have the freedom to cut players who knee if they desire. This whole thing is stupid. Why can't we just ignore these idiots who knee at such an inappropriate time ?
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:32 PM ^
Inappropriate? Yeah, they should protest at a time that is more convenient for you...
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:36 PM ^
Most Americans would be fired if they protested on the clock; why should this be any different with athletes?
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:32 PM ^
If the protests cost the NFL enough revenue and viewership then it will result in athlete terminations. Trump really did not need to address the protests at all.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:37 PM ^
nor were they in the US Armed Forces. I wish the general population understood the sacrifice these people make, doubt anyone would kneel during our countries National Anthem if that were so.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:37 PM ^
Conversely why can't we just ignore these idiots who say things like "They should be fired" for not singing a song.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:32 PM ^
This whole shit show started because Colin Kapernick is a shitty QB and couldn't handle the fact that he is irrelevent.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:36 PM ^
16 TDs 4INTS may not be a stater but shitty???? Gtfo
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:37 PM ^
Dude has 30 interceptions and 16 fumbles in his short career. Yes, he's shitty
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:32 PM ^
Stand up and sing the song or GTFO
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:37 PM ^
"Sing our song or leave the country!" That sounds reasonable.
September 23rd, 2017 at 11:32 PM ^
Some of you a holes just can't leave politics alone.
