You know how WR screens have been a problem? I miss Peppers at those times. A lot.
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:38 PM ^
Yes, those seemed to disappear with Peppers on the field

Chase Winovich, paired with Mattison and Brown, is hair-raising.
Don Brown, paired with halftime adjustments, is unfair.

Would you commit extra guys to help on Chase and turn someone else loose?
If I'm an opposing OC, I just assume that my QB is going to get hit b/c every guy in the pass rush can beat a single blocker, so it becomes a choice of which guy on the D do I not want hitting my QB?
My choices would be Gary and Hurst. Continued hits by those guys and your QB doesn't finish the game.

Offense is 1-0 too.

We always freak out. Brown adjusts. And from there on we are vikings. That is all.

1 Yard in the second half. That is an adjustment!
September 23rd, 2017 at 8:22 PM ^
One is the loneliest number...
Seriously, though, they only netted one yard? I hadn't read/heard that.
September 24th, 2017 at 2:04 AM ^
According to Ace's writeup they had 179 yards at the half and 189 for the game.

I was listening to a recap when I flipped channels right after the game. They said Michigan had 274 Yards and Purdue had 1 in the second half. Pretty good stat either way.

nothing but misdirection pass plays, screens and delays, and the defense was killing itself with over-pursuit. Once Brown figured out how to stop that, Purdue's offense went away. And I don't get their two qb system, which itself is a gimmick and mostly a preparation issue, but not even that because both guys do the same things for the most part.
My only defensive concern going forward is how to stop Barkley and PSU's rpo offense.

but whatever donny b did at halftime, it worked flawlessly

Needs a raise, think he said something about be a fucking Dude the rest of the game and everyone stepped it up.
Bush has been amazing from the linebacker spot and the great thing is I think next years linebackers will be even better as the athleticism is just going to increase if that is possible moving forward.
There was a play where Bush absolutely decleated a Purdue player about 15 yds away from the ball...need to find it again, but he destroyed someone.
Purdue's QBs looked like they wanted to go home about half way through the 3rd qtr, Hurst put a pounding on a few times and Winovich lit them up a few times.

great in the second half but the numbers show that they had one good drive and then nada. That second half was better but the first half looked worse than it was
September 23rd, 2017 at 7:46 PM ^
The TD drive was it for them. Then Brown adjusted, and the tunnel screens and throwbacks got them next to nothing. Zero third down conversions? That's just outstanding.

Defense showed up, and they clamped down big time in the second half. Devin Bush is a superstar in the making and Winovich is making his case for a big NFL payday.
As long as Don Brown is overseeing this defense, it will be elite year in and year out.

than weaponized plutonium. More dangerous to your health too if you're on the wrong side of the ball...

Just wait until this defense gains experience.
