OT: Is the Jordan brand losing its appeal?
I saw this on CNN Money about Nike's Jordan brand slipping a bit in terms of popularity. I thought this was interesting given the hype surrounding Michigan and the Jumpman line.

The brand has certainly fallen off in the last several years with "Jordans" losing much of their luxury brand appeal. As they increased supply and reissued old versions- their mystique has definitely decreased:

Don't forget the rise of the Big Baller Brand. Since Lonzo won all those NBA championships and mvps and scoring titles, he's really eaten into Jordan's marketshare. At least that's what his dad said.

I expect no less from the man who could beat Jordan in his prime...
September 19th, 2017 at 5:28 PM ^
No. It's just super expensive and adidas isn't.
September 19th, 2017 at 5:33 PM ^
You're incredibly out of touch if you think Adidas' market surge is due to Sambas and All-Stars (although the latter is an insta-thot essential). Look up the price of an Ultraboost or Yeezy Boost, which will be hard to find for anything under resell. Adidas has limited their supply of incredibly hyped shoes but still sells them at a $200+ price tag at retail.
September 19th, 2017 at 5:40 PM ^
"Incredibly out of touch" seems a bit harsh. We are talking about shoes.
September 19th, 2017 at 5:51 PM ^
It was a bit harsh.
Especially calling someone "out of touch" when he misattributed "All-Stars" to adidas. I assume he meant Superstars. All-Stars are Converse.
Don't mean to be nitpicky, but before calling others "out of touch," perhaps get "in touch" yourself.

Fuck, you got me on the Superstars.
I was a bit harsh, my b

All you guys, Check out Ultra Boosts, yeezys, and NMDs and come back and tell us if adidas is still cheap.
This is coming from a guy who has five pairs of fly knit racers, and two pairs of vapor maxes. Adidas makes great shoes.

I, for one, appreciated the humor of him calling someone out of touch for not knowing what things called "ultraboost" and "yeezy boost" are.

What the fuck is Yeezy boost?

September 19th, 2017 at 6:12 PM ^
and what percent of their sales are from these so called yeezy boosts? if ur gna pick fights bring some facts
September 19th, 2017 at 6:22 PM ^
You can't really quantify Kanye's impact on the brand based his yeezy sales alone. They've basically put out a highly sought after product in extremely limited numbers, then released accessible products with the same technology and overall look for a slightly lower price (~$180). The Adidas brand has been living off hype the last 3 years.
September 19th, 2017 at 6:35 PM ^
you can quantify all of that
September 19th, 2017 at 7:12 PM ^
Ok.. Hit me with your methodology on how to predict what percentage of ultraboosts, nmds, and tubulars sold because the buyer was influenced by the Yeezy design that was inaccessible.
September 19th, 2017 at 7:35 PM ^
If you don't think that Adidas has a very precise valuation on yeezy's impact to their brand you don't know big business
September 19th, 2017 at 7:53 PM ^
Well obviously, but he asked me to back my common sense claims with data that is either sophisticated or not available to the public. I'm not going to run some statistical analysis to respond to some slappy on the board. Obviously Kanye has a huge positive influence on Adidas' sales and brand resurgence. Does Adidas have a numerical value for this influence? Most certainly. Do I have the number? No.

September 20th, 2017 at 10:08 AM ^
let me get caught up here. Kanye West has a brand of Adidas shoes, and these shoes are selling because they are Kanye West shoes? Is this accurate so far?
September 20th, 2017 at 10:35 AM ^
As accurate as you can be.
September 19th, 2017 at 8:18 PM ^
My kids wouldn't urinate on those tubular yeezy rip offs. I tried to get them to buy them for 90 when they dropped. They actually look better to me.
September 20th, 2017 at 9:19 AM ^
Trust me, your kids will like them.
September 19th, 2017 at 8:06 PM ^
Ultraboosts dont fly as much as they used to. Yeah, maybe some of the collabs, or limited edition stuff, but you can still get most colorways on the adidas website.
Yeezys tho? Yeah, those are crazy in demand.
September 19th, 2017 at 8:16 PM ^
Man, my kid just bought Jordan 11's for 200 bucks. I just bought ultra boost running shoes for 90. I'm
Not out of touch. I've got up at six am and tried to order yeezy's from the footlocker app. I actually got those fuckers too. They were 160 but you can't just find those.

forgiveable offense since the thread fell off the first page, but already posted earlier today and I, at least, have an issue where pressing the little "next page" arrows at the bottom of the New thread list refreshes the list with diary topics.

Bad threads kick good threads to the black hole far too quickly sometimes (especially during the season), but indeed the real crime is poor site design. Ironically though this creates positive feedback in the form of thread cops, which I support.

I figured out a workaround but forget it almost immediately after I remember it.

This is why it was negged! I am sorry. I looked and didn't see it.
September 19th, 2017 at 5:29 PM ^
I think Boost will run it's course soon enough. Adidas is currently being held up by Kanye, streetwear hype, and limited supply; but in the end it still looks like disposable cooler styrofoam.
September 19th, 2017 at 5:54 PM ^
hasn't affected the Adidas sales at all prior to this year. Adidas simply has been doing better but Kanye has little bearing on the shoe sales resut.
September 19th, 2017 at 5:57 PM ^
While I was critical of your earlier post, I think you're spot on here. Boost is nice, but I agree it will eventually run its course and be replaced by the next "big thing." As you said, adidas' cash cows now are all their version of retro footwear, "Originals" as they call it.
