META - Can You Please Just Leave MGoBlog As Is?

Submitted by Darker Blue on

I love the way the site is laid out. I know that you've spent a lot of money to make changes, but I'm begging you please don't take this mgoblog away from me.

thanks for listening , back to your reguarly scheduled football content.

I don't (and won't) use the app, so a mobile version would be nice for the tiled library.

I think the formatting and layout of the site / discussion threads is fine, although the ability to easily quote another poster in thread replies might be nice.

And maybe a direct message feature would be good.  For flirting.  And hate mail.

This board has the worst format for reading replies. After the second level of replies, you can't tell who is replying to what post. How could this ever be considered better than the V Bulletin format even with the large blocks of text? I don't care for the scout.com Pandora's box style of reply but I like to see an actual quote in a reply.

I use the full site on my phone, and it works well. I just want the site to work. I don't care about a "modern" layout, whatever that means. If it means it'll look like Eleven Warriors, as many have said... no thanks. I think that site layout is a disaster.

should define what i mean by modern:

a site that changes and reduces it's layout to work best with the size of the browser window it's displayed. if I open it on my phone, the page displays best for that screen size. it's called 'responsive design' for you web nerds like me.

I get it, but I really don't want that. I like having the full site layout available when I want it. Whenever sites make a "mobile" version, or responsive design, whatever, there are inevitable cuts made to accommodate. I can think of a few sites that I won't even load on my phone for that reason.

Does anyone have any screen caps of the blog from when we played Texas in the Rose Bowl? That's when I first started reading and I can barely remember what it looked like originally.

I prefer the way the blog is laid out currently, especially with the entire front page in chronological order. If it goes the 11Warriors route as previously mentioned where the highest quality content filters to the top, I'm afraid I might accidently miss out on some content.

Changing the layout doesn't change the essence of what makes mgoblog great:

Posbangs, clever OTs, incessant negging of redundant posts, Ace's UFRs, Ace's Unverified Voracities, Ace's season previews, Ace's Monday post game prose...

The essence will remain.

If anything the articles will be easier to access without scrolling down or going onto the next page. Plus the site should be more flexible. I'm reading at work all the time, and usually have my window as small as possible to not draw as much attention to my slacking off. The website conforming to the size of the window will make using this site even easier (for me at least)!

And hopefully the comments section is improved by auto refreshing in real time.

Sadly for the rest of us Darker Blue has made this plea to Brian every year for the past 9 years and every year Brian listens and shuts down the long awaited upgrade.

I suspect this year will be no exception.    Thanks a lot Darker Blue.

I'm hoping that the look feels very similar but simply modernized and also all the glitchiness worked out. I really hope it doesn't look like 11 Warriors when it's done. That site is awful.

Go to SBNation (I hate their redesign) and resize with your internet window. Things shift/move with the size change. Modernization is mostly to for adaptability, ease of use, mobile phone use, etc.

Otherwise, the diaries, mgoboard boxes are out of date. The column headers, and gradient bars seperating things are out of date. Look at the "Make a Donation" button. That is from the 90s! None of that is a big deal though, imo.
