Rivals article on Don Brown "This Defense is Smarter than I thought"

Submitted by Wolverine In Iowa 68 on

Nice write up on his reactions to the Florida game and how well the team prepped in camp gearing up for it.

My favorite has to be the quote on how he notifies guys they're going to start:

"Devin Gil did extremely well in the first series. He didn't even know he was starting until grabbed him by the throat and said let's go baby ... you're up."

CLASSIC!

How Don Brown never ended up at USC, Alabama or the shithole that is Columbus is amazing to me. I mean, not ending up at OSU isn't surprising considering he isn't an inbred mouthbreather, but still.

Some people like living where they are.  If you're from the Northeast (I am) Ann Arbor will feel a lot more like home than any of the places you mention, especially Alabama, but also OSU and USC.  Michigan has a much stronger presence here than those programs - not surprising it took a Michigan offer to get him to move.

"Solve all of your problems with aggression" and "If your not running to the ball, you're a traitor.  Might as well go play for the other team."

Epic quotes.

Don Brown rules!

Brown admitted he was nervous when sophomore linebacker Devin Bush was reviewed for targeting on the first play, especially with fifth-year senior Mike McCray a bit ill before the game.

Yikes. I didn't know that. I would have been on pins and needles too then, if I were Don Brown in that situation and facing potentially losing Bush and not having McCray at 100%.

The write-up doesn't quite do it justice. He is a good interview - right to the point, no evasion, peppered with cool football-y terms and tuff-isms.

I'm sure there is a podcast of the interview but I wouldn't know how to find it or link it.

JH on 97.1 this morning for the weekly interview. Pretty solid interview.

And to be honest, I generally turn off Harbaugh when he does their show, so it was nice hearing Brown. Great coach, but a really awkward listen when he's being asked radio questions.

I'm sure OSU, PSU, and Wisconsin are all quaking in their boots.

Come on man. Until Michigan wins the conference or wins a really tough road game like PSU or Wisconsin (which it feels like they haven't done in eternity), these comments are silly.

...but, Don Brown is just on a whole other level.  That guy is a stinking genius.  I hope he's here for the duration of Harbaugh's 20+ year tenure here (fingers crossed).

"Grabbed him by the throat and said let's go baby ... you're up."

Funny, that's how I tell worship team members they're playing Sunday, as well.

To me this season will boil down one mad genius vs another when Don Brown faces Ohio's offense and Kevin Wilson. What Wilson built on offense at IU was pretty phenomenal and I absolutely hated his hire by Meyer because he is damn good. My way too early prediction is the two geniuses cancel each other out to about 24 pts for OSU and it will all come down to Speight and Ulizio helping us exceed that number against that strong OSU D... GULP!!'
