Rivals article on Don Brown "This Defense is Smarter than I thought"
Nice write up on his reactions to the Florida game and how well the team prepped in camp gearing up for it.
My favorite has to be the quote on how he notifies guys they're going to start:
"Devin Gil did extremely well in the first series. He didn't even know he was starting until grabbed him by the throat and said let's go baby ... you're up."
CLASSIC!

As background, that happend right after Peppers made this play:

Don Brown is underpaid. That is all.
September 7th, 2017 at 3:16 PM ^
Give him a 100k bonus for each shutout
September 7th, 2017 at 4:29 PM ^
Shoutout to Brown! 100k
Ohhhhhh....Shutout. NVM
September 8th, 2017 at 1:10 PM ^
And 200k each time his defense outscores the other team's offense.
September 7th, 2017 at 2:19 PM ^
"Grabbed him by the throat". Maybe Woody Hayes was just ahead of his time.

How Don Brown never ended up at USC, Alabama or the shithole that is Columbus is amazing to me. I mean, not ending up at OSU isn't surprising considering he isn't an inbred mouthbreather, but still.
September 7th, 2017 at 2:35 PM ^
thats funny... i still laugh everytime someone refers to anyone associated with osu as an "inbred mouthbreather".....
September 7th, 2017 at 3:50 PM ^
Well, he ended up at Michigan. We're not exactly chopped liver.
September 7th, 2017 at 3:54 PM ^
I meant before arriving here. Top-notch coordinators aren't usually ignored, especially dudes like DB.
September 7th, 2017 at 4:09 PM ^
Is it surprising? He seems to be a brilliant and thoughtful guy who knows and loves football. Maybe the only call he chose to answer was the one from the coach from Michigan.
September 7th, 2017 at 6:54 PM ^
I suspect it has something to do with regional bias. At least at the high school and college level, New England is exactly known as a hotbed of great players and coaches.
September 7th, 2017 at 6:53 PM ^
Some people like living where they are. If you're from the Northeast (I am) Ann Arbor will feel a lot more like home than any of the places you mention, especially Alabama, but also OSU and USC. Michigan has a much stronger presence here than those programs - not surprising it took a Michigan offer to get him to move.
September 7th, 2017 at 2:47 PM ^
"Solve all of your problems with aggression" and "If your not running to the ball, you're a traitor. Might as well go play for the other team."
Epic quotes.
Don Brown rules!
September 7th, 2017 at 2:48 PM ^
Brown admitted he was nervous when sophomore linebacker Devin Bush was reviewed for targeting on the first play, especially with fifth-year senior Mike McCray a bit ill before the game.
Yikes. I didn't know that. I would have been on pins and needles too then, if I were Don Brown in that situation and facing potentially losing Bush and not having McCray at 100%.
September 7th, 2017 at 2:50 PM ^
Genius on the defensive side of the ball. And with fast, strong players?! Who's got it better than us??!!
GO BLUE!!
September 7th, 2017 at 2:50 PM ^
Only days ago the story was "too young" with "lost 10 starters." Pundit's gonna pundit I suppose.
September 7th, 2017 at 2:55 PM ^
for a bad day for the defense so they can say, "see, we told you so".
September 7th, 2017 at 3:15 PM ^
Might have a long wait Harbaugh is only 53
September 7th, 2017 at 2:54 PM ^
The write-up doesn't quite do it justice. He is a good interview - right to the point, no evasion, peppered with cool football-y terms and tuff-isms.
I'm sure there is a podcast of the interview but I wouldn't know how to find it or link it.
September 7th, 2017 at 3:01 PM ^
JH on 97.1 this morning for the weekly interview. Pretty solid interview.
And to be honest, I generally turn off Harbaugh when he does their show, so it was nice hearing Brown. Great coach, but a really awkward listen when he's being asked radio questions.
September 7th, 2017 at 4:24 PM ^
I get the vibe they don't like interviewing Harbaugh, and he doesn't like going on that show.
September 7th, 2017 at 4:44 PM ^
No doubt there.
Does he have some U of M obligation to do the show?
September 7th, 2017 at 9:41 PM ^
Yes he does have an obligation. I know last year he had Speight take his spot once. Questions from 97.1 are really bad with obvious answers.
September 7th, 2017 at 3:19 PM ^
repeatedly argued that there was inevitably going to be a dropoff from last year, I apologize.
September 7th, 2017 at 4:12 PM ^
To confirm there will be no drop-off, as I don't think Florida is really that good, but was definitely impressed with Saturday's performance by the D.
Good on ya however for admitting your prior transgressions.
September 7th, 2017 at 7:26 PM ^
Florida might be going full Nuss and end up being one of the worst offenses we'll see this year. Or maybe they're good and the D really is ridiculous. Not enough data
September 7th, 2017 at 3:25 PM ^
Has Alum 96 or whatever his handle is ever admitted how terrible his many threads about how Don Brown was a mediocre hire were?
September 7th, 2017 at 4:06 PM ^
Hmm - I'm curious what the basis was for that stance. Did Don Brown steal his wife...?

No but I heard from a friends cousins sister that he heard that led miles allegedly banged her.

+1 for poor grammar and sentence structure yet still being able to get the point across effectively.
September 7th, 2017 at 3:51 PM ^
Is there a point where other teams may try to just let us run the ball all game and take the loss to save their starting QB's?
September 7th, 2017 at 4:10 PM ^
I'm sure OSU, PSU, and Wisconsin are all quaking in their boots.
Come on man. Until Michigan wins the conference or wins a really tough road game like PSU or Wisconsin (which it feels like they haven't done in eternity), these comments are silly.
September 7th, 2017 at 4:19 PM ^
You understand the concepts of jokes and sarcasm (and to a certain extent hyperbole), right?!!
September 7th, 2017 at 4:20 PM ^
Doesn't make this statement any less silly.
September 7th, 2017 at 7:28 PM ^
So, no.
September 7th, 2017 at 4:18 PM ^
I was under the impression there would be a photoshop of Brown humping a McElwain-faced shark..
September 7th, 2017 at 4:43 PM ^
If Brown really overhauled his entire defensive scheme to beat the bucknuts o give him a ton of credit in being flexible.
September 7th, 2017 at 4:55 PM ^
I want to kiss Don Brown on the forehead.
September 7th, 2017 at 5:39 PM ^
...but, Don Brown is just on a whole other level. That guy is a stinking genius. I hope he's here for the duration of Harbaugh's 20+ year tenure here (fingers crossed).
September 7th, 2017 at 6:31 PM ^
"Grabbed him by the throat and said let's go baby ... you're up."
Funny, that's how I tell worship team members they're playing Sunday, as well.
September 7th, 2017 at 6:36 PM ^
To me this season will boil down one mad genius vs another when Don Brown faces Ohio's offense and Kevin Wilson. What Wilson built on offense at IU was pretty phenomenal and I absolutely hated his hire by Meyer because he is damn good. My way too early prediction is the two geniuses cancel each other out to about 24 pts for OSU and it will all come down to Speight and Ulizio helping us exceed that number against that strong OSU D... GULP!!'
September 7th, 2017 at 7:13 PM ^
I could be way off on this but this last game looked most like his pressuring BC defense.
September 7th, 2017 at 8:59 PM ^
Are sitting in a room eating pizza and feeling jealous.
