Confidence of this team

That field goal kick was not making another 9".
September 4th, 2017 at 11:00 AM ^
The good news is we now know Nordin's non-wind-aided range. 55 yards. Exactly 55 yards.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:05 AM ^
The 50 yarder looked to actually have a bit more leg than that. Might have been good from closer to 60.
September 4th, 2017 at 6:59 PM ^
After the game he actually mentioned that he missed the sweet spot when he made contact witht he ball on the 55 yarder.
September 5th, 2017 at 8:40 AM ^
This never should have come down to the sleepover. A wepon like that never should have been committed to an out of state school.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:08 AM ^
He said in a post game interview that he missed the sweet spot of the ball, and that 63 is his longest in practice.
September 4th, 2017 at 12:47 PM ^
To miss good contact and still make a 55 yarder. He'll be a difference maker this year in games. Nice to know you've got him in your back pocket. Kickoff guy is solid. Punter...from his first punt I can say at least he looked like he had good form and follow-through?
September 4th, 2017 at 11:10 AM ^
In the post-game interview he said he missed the sweet spot on the ball on that kick and that he had hit from 60 during practice
September 4th, 2017 at 11:17 AM ^
He said he missed the sweet spot on the ball by a good two inches. And, as your wife knows....2 inches is a lot;)
Every little inch counts, right!!
September 4th, 2017 at 12:11 PM ^
but I almost feel like Nordin could afford to take some of that out. His kicks absolutely tower.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:01 AM ^
Depending on the orientation of the ball when it impacted the crossbar. It grazed the back of the bar so it's possible it could have ricocheted up and over the bar from 9" shorter...maybe.

Finches.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:32 AM ^
Tru Dat, it hit the crossbar, another 1/4" may have caused it to bounce the wrong way off the crossbar.
Then again I am quite certain there is an Mgo Physics guru on this site that could tell us exactly how much further the kick would've been good from.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:13 AM ^
Its also a team that should get even better over the next few weeks.
Nordin is a weapon. Our defense is an absolute nightmare for opposing QBs.
September 4th, 2017 at 12:01 PM ^
who will be working on Sundays in the future. For a first game as a starter, it was a great performance. The misses are inconsequential. He's only going to get better as the season goes on too. The jury is still out on our punting, but this first game was hard to gauge on that front.
September 4th, 2017 at 10:54 AM ^
those were two moments reminiscent of 1997 Michigan
September 4th, 2017 at 11:05 AM ^
Don't keep us in suspense. (Bear)cat got your tongue? /s
September 4th, 2017 at 11:10 AM ^
I see your point, very insightful.
September 4th, 2017 at 10:55 AM ^
It was concerning to see Speight toss those back to back pick sixes, even if the first one did go through Crawford's hands. I'm not as optimistic as I was heading into the season. D looks like they should, and much faster it seems than last year but the offense did not look good to me at all. Save for a couple plays they don't look like the kind of team that can keep pace with PSU or OSU at all. 9-3 team unless the OL and Speight take some big steps forward.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:00 AM ^
33 points on the projected second best defense in the sec on the first game of the year. I say they did just fine.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:07 AM ^
That was a really good defense we just moved the ball on. The O-line is super young and playing together for the 1st time.
The next few weeks should show growth. This O-line should be better than last year.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:13 AM ^
26 points on the actual UF defense. However, it should've been more. The UM offense left some points on the field for sure. The refs took 4 more.
September 4th, 2017 at 12:15 PM ^
Turf monster took 4 before the refs had the chance
September 4th, 2017 at 3:42 PM ^
i think he is referring the the bad call on Khalid Hill for ineligible down field on the TD that was called back.
September 4th, 2017 at 4:51 PM ^
if Evans doesn't fall over, we never get to that play. Looked like he would have scored.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:18 AM ^
We did get seven points from our defense, and a couple of field goals off short-ish fields. So it was more like 20-odd offensive points. (OTOH, we got jobbed out of four points by the officials on our first possession.)
September 4th, 2017 at 11:24 AM ^
Either that or Chuck Norris snipered Evans.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:19 AM ^
The D will only get better. If we can get a consistent running game and less mistakes from Speight or whoever the QB is the sky is the limit. Noone on the schedule is unbeatable with this Don Brown defense.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:57 AM ^
The OFFENSE put up only 26. Speight missed several wide open receivers and cost us 14 points on those pick sixes. That type of performance won't cut it in Happy Valley, Madison or when OSU comes to town.
September 4th, 2017 at 12:57 PM ^
Yet it was more than enough to beat back-to-back SEC East Champions Florida.
Cool.
September 4th, 2017 at 12:59 PM ^
OSU and Wisconsin also struggled on offense in the first half of their games before settling in during the second half, kinda like Michigan. Penn State played Akron, so yeah...
There is no pre-season games in college, so there is usually plenty of things that teams need to work through after the first game. Not to mention the fact that it takes much longer for an offense to come together than a defense. Back away from the ledge.
September 4th, 2017 at 4:07 PM ^
The offense only put up 26? ONLY 26? So your bar is what, 27?
September 4th, 2017 at 9:34 PM ^
That is all
September 4th, 2017 at 9:33 PM ^
26 including 50'and 55 yard fg's
September 4th, 2017 at 11:01 PM ^
Winovich causing the fumble td in the endzone wasn't an offensive td. But regardless, I think the offense looked good minus the passes to the other team.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:01 AM ^
Improve. But so you think PSU has a significantly better DL than Florida. I am curious how you came to that conclusion.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:59 AM ^
I do not think PSU's defense is all that great. But their offense is high powered, meaning we'd likely need a 30+ point performance to beat them on the road. It doesn't look like this offense is capable of a shootout.
September 4th, 2017 at 12:38 PM ^
I'm not so sure that Penn State can score 30+ on this defense. I understand your concerns 9and share them), but not because I think Michigan will need to win any shootouts.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:09 AM ^
Lol how can u be less optimistic after that game? OL? U expected 300 yards rushing? Lol i think your expectations are through the roof for a game 1 vs a quality opponent that wasnt akron out there
September 4th, 2017 at 11:25 AM ^
If you came away from that game LESS optimistic about this season, then you began this season with completely irrational expectations.
September 4th, 2017 at 12:03 PM ^
I came in thinking this was a 9-3 team (lose to PSU, Wiscy and OSU). I also came in thinking Speight would be better, not tossing two pick sixes on back to back throws.
11-25 for 181 and 1-2 was not what I was expecting from Speight. I didn't think he'd have 300 yards but a 44% pass completion is not ideal for a 2nd year starter.
September 4th, 2017 at 12:27 PM ^
You came in to the season thinking 9-3 and after this first game you are less optimistic for this season and predicting a 9-3 record. Something doesn't quite add up here.
September 4th, 2017 at 3:33 PM ^
Michigan won more in spite of Sp8 than because of him.He is looking more like an unpredictable variable, than a slightly above average game manager.
I think it's always about 50/50 myself. 2 pic 6s are awful, but a couple throws were money & he moves well..
Overthrew Crawford, but had the awareness to check in to that play in the 1st place. etc. etc.
September 4th, 2017 at 3:34 PM ^
Calm down bruh.
9-3 floor and 12-0 ceiling.
Single game equals small sample size; Harbaugh/Pep probably coaching a bit today.
If the offense is merely passable that defense gonna just destroy. That D also gonna cover a lot of flaws.
September 4th, 2017 at 11:15 AM ^
Offense struggled but the run game looked good. For having youth on the oline Florida couldn't get consistent pressure and that's good too.
