TomVH: Spring Game Updates

Submitted by TomVH on

I'll try to just post updates in this thread, to make it easier for everyone. Here's what I have so far.

- LB Antoine Pozniak was not offered during the trip, but said he felt a lot of love from the coaches. He's going to come back and camp during the summer.

- His friend, and fellow Top Prospect Family member, DE Deion Barnes was offered. Barnes says Michigan is one of his top schools.

- DeAnthony Arnett said the spring game was cool. He liked that they were throwing the ball down the field a little bit more, which is a good thing. He wasn't expecting Denard to show up like he did, and said, "He did his thing." (For you old guys, that's a good thing.)

Arnett said this doesn't really change anything as far as his list goes. He's been down there a lot, and he knows everything. This was a good day for Michigan in his mind, but his list is still what it is.

- A 2010 update: Jibreel Black said his visit up to AA was great, and he had an awesome time with his future teammates.

- 2011 LB Percy Johnson didn't receive an offer, but said he was very entertained. He only lives 2 hours away in Ohio, so he and his step dad made the trip. He plans on camping this summer to try to get a scholarship offer.

- DT Vincent Croce said that this visit puts Michigan atop his list of schools that he's visited so far, a long with UVA. He's going to MSU tomorrow.

I guess that means we still trail MSU, USC and ND when it comes to Arnett? Kind of surprising we can't crack his top few considering how many times he has visited now. Is he another one of the guys waiting to see how this season turns out?

Ja'Jaun Story does not.

According to his father:

"I think any school that Ja'Juan goes to, they will use him properly," he said. "Coaches are wise, and they will definitely get the best out of his talent. I'll be happy no matter what type of offense they run. If he went to an offense like Georgia Tech, they would use him and he would get one-on-one opportunities and be a blocker. If he went to a spread team like Texas Tech or somewhere, that would be good for him, too."

Great, and awesome. My one question, any news on Anthony Zettel? He's a kid I really want for our OL, and I thought there was a chance he could drop soon. Any word on him?

Thanks for all of the great information today Tom. Is there really any reason to pay for Michigan info when we can get it for free here?

Thanks for the update Tom and good to hear the news about Croce. Any chance we can make it so he doesn't make the trip to EL tomorrow? I'm not sure I can handle another solid DT prospect getting scared off.

Vincent Croce comes away from Michigan State saying either.....

"I'm very worried about Rich Rodriguez's job security"

OR

"Why did that crazy angry-faced elf coach talk about Michigan for the entire visit?"

Negative recruiting aside, I have to imagine visiting MSU after being at our spring game with a number of other big recruits and all the other events going on must be a bit of a letdown. Most everything a recruit sees is far superior in AA than EL.

"We were going to have an alumni game, but we couldn't find enough players who could leave their county/house/cell. We don't anticipate this to change anytime soon."

Being a high GPA kid from the east coast, his biggest concerns are likely: 1. Quality of academics, and 2. Football tradition and quality.

I doubt Croce even gives MSU a serious look, and he is likely visiting just because they have offered and because he is in this area. I just hope they aren't able to pull another Kevin Williams, where they have no chance with a kid but still manage to successfully convince him that Michigan is the scum of the Earth. In my opinion, that is one of the most pathetic recruiting methods possible.

I cant recall where I read it, but Williams coach (a former NFL player) had strong ties not only to Bo Pelini, but also a coach or coaches on the MSU staff. That likely had as much to do with the interest in MSU as any negative recruiting by Dantonio.
