Matt Godin tears ACL

Submitted by m1817 on

Matt Godin suffered a torn ACL during a preseason game against the New Orleans Saints.

Godin will undergo surgery to repair the damage after sustaining the season-ending injury.

Godin had impressed many during training camp, showing power and a good football IQ as he tried to make the team. A good athlete for his 6-foot-6 size, he has developmental potential as a DE in Houston’s 3-4 scheme.

Sucks for him especially on the fringe of a roster. Hopefully he recovers well and quickly.

My heart dropped before I recalled he was no longer on our roster.

Oh come on, Jon. Yeah we care about them as people, but our reaction to current players is different. After all, the only reason I know who Matt Godin is is because I care for the football team. I have a certain level of "care" for everyone, but I don't think it's wrong for someone to say they're glad a guy who tore his ACL isn't a current player.

Poor guy. I met him at the aiport recently and he was very nice and was excited to get back to training camp. Hopefully he makes it.

Pretty much the worst possible time to have that happen, as a rookie trying to win the battle for a roster spot.
Hope he comes back healthy and gets another chance.

Well this just totally sucks.  Bad way to start a rainy day.  Good luck to him with the recovery - and with finding a spot next season.  I thought he'd be a good depth player...

Honestly, going on IR and taking a redshirt year isn't the worst thing for a rookie. You get to be around the team and in an NFL program for a year, without the struggle and week-to-week pressure. Best of luck to Matt in his recovery.

Fuck! I know Matt pretty well and he's definitely a great guy, down to earth, smart, honest, funny, humble!
