With Harvey hammering Texas, does the UF game get cancelled/ postponed/ moved?
I'm surprised that no one has yet raised this, but formerly Hurricane Harvey is moving very slowly and the current track progressions show it possibly hitting as far as Dallas as late as Friday. Any thoughts on whether this disrupts the game, disrupts the team's travel and preparations, or has other impacts on what transpires next weekend?

Texas is a big state. Dallas is far from Houston, further than Detroit to Chicago, and the game is a week away.
It's not likely to be enough to cancel the (indoor) game.

I'm rooting for it to be a non-event for us, but Weather.com shows it potentially hitting Dallas by the end of the week (Thu-Fri). It is moving very slowly (5 MPH). I can see several complications including the challenge of hosting a game when a lot of the population of Houston has been displaced to Dallas or just the difficulty of flying into Dallas when you have a storm that can be 200 miles across.
I have to say that I hope the game goes as planned. I have to have some Michigan football this weekend!

It was over 4 hours, so I checked the distance between them. Google maps has Chicago to Detroit at 284 miles. Dallas to Houston is similar at 242 miles, but not greater. I agree with your premise that the storm will dissipate by then. Similar to a hurricane hitting the Florida panhandle - we get heavy rain in Atlanta (~300 miles), but it's manageable

I was about to chime in with the same info as I've driven them both, many times. I highly doubt, with this storm losing momentum the further inland it gets, that by Saturday it will change anything. Florida is still going to lose.

North Texas may yet see stormy conditions later in the week. That weather really won't be harsh enough to affect an indoor sporting event, though the fanfare and tailgating could be a bit subdued.

it's more about the influx of evacuees by the end of the week. If we're talking thousands, the convention center can handle it. If we're talking 10s or even 100,000 or more, then people will start looking at Jerryworld and the Alamodome. San A is closer, but getting a good bit of the weather itself plus I-10 is more treacherous along the way. I-45 to Dallas is longer but probably the better option to get somewhere (relatively) dry.
The problem right now is that people are either stuck in their homes or stuck in the city-- but when they get the chance, a significant chunk of the area's residents are going to split any way they can. During Katrina, they used the Astrodome for people who could get out of town and the Superdome for those who couldn't. Houston earned some karma the way it took people in.
All the devastation so far? That's not even half of the water due by Thursday. This is off the charts as a disaster. So sad for the affected.

Not getting into politics here at all, but unfortunately FEMA is likely to be pretty understaffed because the current administration hasn't made replacing Federal employees they didn't retain a priority. It's very possible that we're only just beginning the most painful parts of Hurricane Harvey's destruction.

Exactly. Dallas will receive 1-2 inches of rain Thursday-Friday. That's no big deal.
It's outside of the zone of significant impact.

Arlington is 257 miles northwest of Houston. Harvey is headed east, northeast of Houston, towards Louisana.
People cannot get out of Houston now because the roads are flooded. By Thursday, weather conditions will start to dry out. Houstonians will start cleaning up and trying to get their lives back in order, not fleeing their homes.
Not to minimize the damage but the media only covers people that were most adversely impacted by Harvey. Most of us were inconvenienced by street flooding but our homes were not flooded out.

From a humane standpoint? Maybe.
From a money making standpoint? Not a shot in hell (unless something every more catastrophic hit this week that no one has already predicted).
Last year the east coast played games in outdoor stadiums around the hurricane. There is no way they're moving a game in Dallas, in an indoor stadium, with all of this planning and money on the line.
Besides...San Antonio and Austin are both closer than Dallas. I know they're all in the same state, but you know, #Geography.
I just pray for the families, the pets and animals, and the cities that were hit this weekend. Very sad stuff. But no impact on Dallas oter than maybe it's rainy and your commute just got a little more difficult.

The reason it hasn't been raised is Dallas is pretty far from the territories that have been devastated by the hurricane.
I live in Austin and we've been pelted with rain the past two days (probably will get rain the next couple, too). But Austin is not experiencing major flooding when compared to Houston/Port Aransas and other areas (areas that are 2-4 hours East when traveling by car). Some flooding of creeks and downed trees, but nothing huge. East of Austin is bad, and the further East you get the worse it gets.
Dallas, while a little East of Austin on a map, is much further away from from the storm than Austin. That's because Dallas is much further north (basically 200+ miles straight north) I don't know how much rain the Dallas area has gotten, but I'd be shocked if it was more than 5 inches

The tropical storm will remain along the southeast TX coast through mid week then slowly move northeast into AR by next Saturday. I doubt that Dallas will see much rain from this system. Now if the game was played in Houston, I would really worry!

One factor that could complicate matters is if MLB and NFL games that are scheduled for Houston this week get relocated to Arlington. It would make for a very busy week in the area.
