Moderator Action Sticky 2017

New offseason, new sticky, because these get cumbrously long.

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

Don't comment in this thread unless you have to: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Things we will moderate so hard that if we were the government you’d probably have a 1st Amendment case but we’re not so shaddup about your freedom of speech this ain’t no democracy it’s just a message board run by people who believe in democracy.

  1. Politics. Don’t you get enough of this everywhere else?

How moderation looks from our end.
  2. Noise. We ask our moderators to try really hard not to censor ideas, but we do control noise. If you’re getting a substantial amount of downvotes we’ll look to see if you’re posting an unpopular opinion that you can support. If you can’t support it politely and rationally, or if you don’t acknowledge the holes in your argument, it’s noise.
  3. Useless content from other sites. There are a lot of sites feeding a lot of Michigan content out there, and a lot of that is good stuff. But more than ever these days a lot of it is just stuff which tries to tickle your fancy or make you mad about something. 247, WTKA always get the benefit of the doubt.
  4. The Drew Sharp Memorial Don’t Feed the Professional Trolls Rule. Pete Finebaum has taken the place of the late Sharp. Valenti and Chatsports are the other two on the ban list. By the time you have enough points to post an article you should know that some people make a living off of trying to get the legions of Michigan fans angry enough to click.
  5. Bewbs and general misogyny/objectifying of women. We tried one year of this and our female readership shot up after being really low. This means it’s a good rule: however much you enjoy cutting loose with the guys, we have tens of thousands of readers it drives away.

Hall of Stickies Past:

The first, the second, the third. the fourth. The fifth. The sixth.

I'm not sure if his attitude truely crosses any moderator's lines, but Maizen picks fights whereever he goes.  At this point it seems the vast majority of posters are tired of his shtick.  He's got a million points though, so he must have done something somebody liked.

OT: USA still the best

Yeah, let's not do politics on the 4th......or indeed ever around here. Just wish everyon a Happy Fourth if that's what you're going for.

Expectations

I am guessing this is merely the abridged version of Grate Expectations by Edmund Wells, the same person who - as Python fans will note - wrote Knickerless Nickleby.

OT - Awesome State of Michigan Print - made by a friend

Typically, we try to keep the for-profit stuff off the board (as part of the kisok rule, at least as I interpret it - I could be wrong), even if it isn't specifically Michigan athletics stuff. No offense to the OP is meant.

You guys might want to lock/delete the "Robert Lee Virginia" thread. Vast majority of the posters in it are ignoring facts in favor of ranting about "PC culture", "oversensitivity", and the "wussification of America"

Why can't Michigan recruit a Josh Rosen?

We should ask important questions here, like "Who the hell once thought it was a good idea to sell hot dogs in packs of eight but buns in packs of six?"

Inflammatory and detracting from our hopes of setting a DiMaggioan record for most hair on fire comments in the game thread of a 22-point victory over an FBS opponent.

Literally, like 1-2 days after the misogyny thread, this guy thinks this comment is appropriate?

*Deletes thread for breaking no politics rule*

*Inserts ignorant political take into the deletion comment*

The mgoblog moderators continue to amaze me with their unabashed hypocrisy.

edit: Whatever you think about his political views, calling him a white supremacist is not correct. This is the same boat as calling everyone Nazis,Fascists, and Communists and it only serves to further the attempted blurring of the line between people you disagree with and the fuckwad extremists.

Man did you even see his comments? Literally espousing white supremacist propaganda. I've never seen a worse case on here. The standard is facts and basic human decency, not some magic middle ground between parties that shifts whenever they do. If you want a message board that treats racists and people who call racists racists equally, you're in the wrong place.

What is going on?!? Every time I comment in one it is deleted and replaced by the other. Can you just delete both, please? EDIT: Thank you LSA

I'm no HTML guy (I don't even know if that's the right acronym.) I just assumed they caved the comments because of the Constitution remark and following hubbub. This place is getting too political lately. I know I've gone right up to the line (and sometimes over,) but I'm going to be avoiding anything political from now on. I WANT MY MGOBLOG BACK!!!

They removed the comments after I posted this.  The HTML was pasted into the comment section.  The code I posted above was what I found in the comments that was causing the page to not work.  It appears by removing all comments it fixed the problem as well.

Mods: Thanks for such a quick response.  I really prefer reading the press cofrences.

FBI has arrested several NCAA asst. basketball coaches in a corruption scheme

This is the weekly reminder that often stories with this reach make it to the blog nearly instantaneously.

Evidently been trolling for a while and waiting for an opportunity.

Mods just when you thought it was safe to be a mod again... please take a look at the thread and then I hope you won't delete the account, just give them a negative million or so (user already said he doesn't care about points) which will limit his trolling activity for some time.

Thanks for taking this step even though according to him you have been giggling together over the rest of us.
