OT: Former MSU offensive lineman Thiyo Lukusa to Arizona
August 21st, 2017 at 1:45 AM ^
He sure is staying busy in his retirement.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:03 PM ^
I have a friend who is an official for MSU's training camp. He said that their team is terrible. The offensive line can't block anyone and Lewerke is only slighly better than Tyler O Connor.

To my ears!
August 20th, 2017 at 9:11 PM ^
Your dirty talk is turning me on
August 20th, 2017 at 9:12 PM ^
seems that he has as little talent as he has ever had. Schedule is pretty easy, but I could see a 5-7 season happening.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:28 PM ^
Their noncon is a joke. Bowling Green is one of the worst teams in the MAC, Western will take a step back without Fleck, and Notre Dame is bad. Then they get Iowa at home which could go either way and Minnesota who probably won't be that good this year, in addition to NW who will beat them. If they don't get to 6 wins Dantonio should step down.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:34 PM ^
Western and ND can both beat Sparty. Lets not forget Mork always sucks his first game...some noname FCS school had them reeling last year. I like BG for the upset.
August 20th, 2017 at 10:03 PM ^
Is that disrespektful?
August 20th, 2017 at 9:51 PM ^
They could be a severely overrated 4-1 or 3-2 heading into the Michigan game. Wouldn't that be special way to derail their season and send their fans into a downward spiral of misery.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:54 PM ^
Considering that we are their 5th game of the year, I am willing to bet my entire 401K that they won't be 4-1 heading into Ann Arbor this year.
August 20th, 2017 at 10:39 PM ^
Well I hope they are 5-0. I don't enjoy kicking a man when they are down nearly as much as knocking them down.
August 21st, 2017 at 6:03 AM ^
You wouldn't enjoy a hypothetical MSU at 0-5 having been upset by both BGSU and WMU? As UofM gives MSU a 0-6 start the fans are singing "hey hey hey, good bye" to Mike D'Anthony in the 4th quarter and "pride comes before the fall" signs?!?!
August 21st, 2017 at 6:46 AM ^
As long as you can handle the torrential downpour of "whatever, beating us doesn't matter because we already suck" attitudes.
August 21st, 2017 at 7:38 AM ^
I love hearing that from MSU fans. Would not mind in the least hearing it every single season.
August 21st, 2017 at 11:18 AM ^
they aren't 5-0, given that we are their fifth game.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:51 PM ^
ESPN's FPI projects MSU at 5.1 wins on the year. It wouldn't be shocking to see MSU miss a bowl game again, but as you point out there are plenty of winnable games still.

No matter how bad ND is, they always get some good athletes.
Between normal attrition, guys that got booted and not great recruiting, MSU stands to be in a real pickle this season. I respect what Dant has done. I dont like him, but no denying Sparty has had best run, during my lifetime, with him as coach. I think there has been too much turmoil with that program to have a major turn around this season. I am with those thinking 5 or 6 wins.
Even with a mediocre performance, and Kelly turning purple in the face, I would be putting my money on the Irish if I were to bet. Despite it being a home night game for Sparty, you would have to believe they are smelling MSU blood in the water.
Ah well, I guess that is why they play the game.
August 21st, 2017 at 2:51 PM ^
ND was one of MSU's 3 wins last year along with Furman and Rutgers right.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:17 PM ^
2-10 will be the new 3-9?
August 20th, 2017 at 9:31 PM ^
Not sure they will see 2 wins this year!
August 20th, 2017 at 9:23 PM ^
Seems weird to think after all that work Dantonio did getting MSU to their best spot in program history, he somehow has brought them down to a WORSE position than they were when he got there. I mean, even John L Smith never went 3-9.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:30 PM ^
Giant talent sucking sound to the south isnt helping him either.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:37 PM ^
Just further suggests that his success was more circumstantial than anything (i.e. Michigan and PSU being at one of their worst points in each program's history)
August 20th, 2017 at 9:44 PM ^
Don't forget Pat Naduzzi
August 20th, 2017 at 10:12 PM ^
Yup. They were never able to replace him. During his time there, he was as big a figure as Mork and got just as many broadcaster mentions too. He was probably their unofficial co-head coach.
August 21st, 2017 at 12:13 AM ^
Good point.
August 21st, 2017 at 9:38 AM ^
Michigan did not benefit from MSU trotting up a guy slapping himself in the face and responding "I don't know" when someone asked if he lost his team.
They did what they did, regardless of who was around them.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:33 PM ^
They can always do what they did to M last season which is hold and hold some more. If the refs aren't gonna call it, what difference does it make?
August 20th, 2017 at 9:45 PM ^
If teams hold as much against Michigan as they did, I think Harbaugh goes after the officials to buy a few calls. Last year Rashan Gary was held so much.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:49 PM ^
In a video that I edited of last year's game, I pulled up hold after hold. That was just two drives that I randomly selected. It was awful.
August 20th, 2017 at 11:59 PM ^
they hold on every fucking play. They're taught to get their hands into their chest pads and hold onto it. This is why DL has to counter with getting their hands into OL's chest before they can get into their chest.
August 21st, 2017 at 3:36 AM ^
That is not really the type of holding that state has done to Michigan's line the last two years though. They are bear hugging guys at the point if attack, right in front of the refs with no flags.
If you have your hand on the inside and not pulling jersy as they guy gets passed it will never be called, nor should we really expect it. But, bear hugs or tackling a defender should be called.
August 21st, 2017 at 8:28 AM ^
Yeah the "holding on every play" thing is more that the position is impossible within the holding rule (which should honestly be amended to address that, THEN called more consistently). Of course OL are grasping with their hands on every play. But when Gary beats you cleanly and you basically tackle him from behind, that SHOULD be called at least once or fuckin twice a game at least.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:37 PM ^
I hate them summabitches but I will give them this. Mike Dantonio teams almost always finish much better than they start. That being said I hope they continue missing bowl games until their fans crawl back into the hole they came from.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:52 PM ^
They better get their shit together fast this year or it will be a steep fall. If you really think all the lockerroom issues were resolved, you must be a Spartan.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:52 PM ^
It's hilarious to me that Dantonio's name has been butchered so often around here and in the media that I can't even tell if someone is screwing his name up on purpose, genuinely made a mistake, or actually thinks his name is something else.
August 21st, 2017 at 10:03 AM ^
are we talking about the head coach of the Houston Rockets here?
August 21st, 2017 at 11:01 AM ^
But Mike Dantonio is also good, esp since that has appeared on TV.
August 20th, 2017 at 10:02 PM ^
Isn't the Sparty d-line supposed be put together with duct tape this year?
August 20th, 2017 at 10:45 PM ^
Their DTs are pretty solid, at least 3 of them probably are. The DEs are probably pretty bad, and very thin.
August 20th, 2017 at 11:52 PM ^
How? They were a tire fire except McDowell last year. They even brought in great transfers to patch the holes and it didn't work. Their recruiting class sucked so no help coming there. Maybe Mork worked his magic or they got their roid program running in overdrive, but I'll believe it when I actually see a competent DL in the field for them.
August 21st, 2017 at 12:42 AM ^
You could be right. But the general consensus is McDowell played for himself (freelanced) then checked out before going down with an injury. Raquen Williams and Panasiuk started the last few games for them and did quite well. RS and true freshmen respecticely, it makes sense that they improve. Though I'm not sold on Panasiuk being anything more than a hard to move object: he plays low with great leverage but I'm not sure if he has the athleticism to do that and make plays. Beyond them there is RS freshman Naquan Jones, who was a 4* that looked good in their spring game. That's not much, granted, but their insiders seem to love him.
August 20th, 2017 at 11:21 PM ^
These are the type of prognostications I value on the banks of the Red Cedar about the team that's known to all,
August 21st, 2017 at 10:19 AM ^
now that McDowell is gone. And that's why the O-line can't stop anyone.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:11 PM ^
Isn't this the same player that said he just wasn't "interested" in football anymore.
Or did he just say that to get away from MSU.
August 20th, 2017 at 9:17 PM ^
Considering he was at staee, it is the same thing. Queue the disrespekt comments in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.....
August 20th, 2017 at 9:53 PM ^
He wasn't interested in going 3-9.
August 20th, 2017 at 10:03 PM ^
So he went to Arizona?
August 20th, 2017 at 10:33 PM ^
But it's a dry 3-9 out there, so it's not as bad.
