Looks like McElwain is backtracking hard here to give himself the chance to play Callaway in the opener. If Callaway doesn't miss any game time that's a joke.

"Indefinitely suspended until I might need them to win." Not surprised. This is from the same people who successfully lobbied to nix an academic eligibility rule so that Malik Zaire could maybe win the starting job to increase Florida's chances against Michigan...

but more than likely, if there's any possible way he can justify putting Callaway out there, he will. Or they'll just move the suspension until they play the SCLSU Mud Dogs.

I highly doubt our coaches 'don't worry about other teams', especially teams they play next. How would you classify the scout team, film review, and other general preparation that every single team in CFB does?

You realize there's a small asymmetry here, right? If the coaches spend too much time worrying about other teams, they can distract themselves from important preparation. If I spend too much time worrying about other teams, it means literally nothing to anybody.

I'm sure Harbaugh and co. are game planning under the assumption that Callaway will play. Which is the right thing to do. And I wouldn't be surprised, and am actually expecting him to play. He'll sit out the next game against Northern Colorado. Either that or he'll sit out the first quarter against us.

In all seriousness, it reeks of gamesmanship, but if they all seem to be present and accounted for in Dallas in a couple weeks and the situation has been mysteriously "resolved", that's garbage, in my opinion.

I read the summary and it said "To clarify, the suspension from team activities of the 7 guys lasts “till it’s resolved.” Not necessarily through the Michigan game."

It would be very odd to issue a statement explicitly stating the players were suspended for the game then backtrack. For some reason I'm reading this as the players are suspended for the Michigan game (previous statement) but will be able to resume team activities (practice) once it is resolved. Maybe there were people thinking they wouldn't be allowed to practice until after Sept 2 which may be the clarification.

I also listened to the actual press conference for that question and the reporter asked if the suspension of team activities ran through the Michigan game or if they will be back at practice sooner and McElwain only said, "No. Until it's resolved."
