Does anyone else like Hard Knocks on HBO?

I love that show. This season they are in camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. !st 2 shows were excellent. Players they have focused on thus far are, Jameis Winston, Gerald McCoy, Desean Jackson, Roberto Aguayo, and Riley Bullough (aka Joe Dirt).

I've seen bits and pieces of it. Most notably back when Rex Ryan was telling his team to "go eat a goddamn snack," but I tried watching the one last week since I'm a TB guy. Watched about 30 mins before I got bored with it and turned it off.

Maybe if I give it a little more time I'd enjoy it. But it wasn't bad. It just didn't interest me enough to keep watching.

Watch it every year. Every year, it makes me want to get off the couch and get in shape for the fall. And every year I don't do it.

Great show. The best season was definitely the Bengals year with Ochocinco going to Clare's to buy earrings. Child, please.

I'm guessing most of us don't know how he feels. Even those of us who have been fired. Being fired is typically a very private situation between employee and manager. Aguayo got fired on national television. Millions of people got to watch him in what is likely one of the most personal, uncomfortable and possibly lowest moment of his life.

Definitely see what you're saying, but knowing the whole country got to watch you get fired vs. the situation just being between you and your direct superior takes on an added layer of personal embarassment.

The dude (Aguaya) recieved a $1,500,000 GAURENTEED signing bonus last year, ON TOP of his $1,100,000 a year salary before being fired. Sign me up for that type of embarassment any day of the week if it meant I would risk being fired in the public eye.

I didn't see the episode that aired last night yet but I'm sure they built up a storyline following the Aguayo into the first game and subsequent release.

Pretty major news when a team trades up to pick a kicker in the 2nd round and they are gone before their second season without off the field issues.

Here's a +1. I didn't realize most of his FG misses were his senior season. I see one was blocked at GaTech from 55 and one he slipped during the bowl game. Still finished his career at 89% makes on field goals which is good for 3rd all time. I would say that's pretty incredible.

It was more like the producers were following some of the position battles, not necessarily following Aguayo per se.  The narrative focused on the place-kicker battle, for example, until Aguayo missed an EP and a FG in the preseason game and was sent packing.  The narrative also focused on the battle for back-up Q, until the Rookie took one too many hits and injured his shoulder, leaving Ryan Fitzpatrick to backup Winston.

It had the feel of some of these TV Reality contests:  when the episode seems to focus in on one contestant's charming back-story, you can be sure he'll be the one eliminated at the end of the hour.

The Cardinals season was better than anything Hard Knocks but I couldn't get through many episodes of the Rams. It was basically Jeff Fisher playing up how good a guy he is for the cameras, Jeff Fisher dipping and a lot of frowns. I guess the sweet spot is capturing a trying season but not a terrible season.

They signed up for Hard Knocks AND All or Nothing. I hope that never happens again. Hard Knocks last year stunk with the Rams but this year with the Bucs it has been fun. They have some great personalities on the team, and some decent quality storylines two episodes in. However, I agree, the All or Nothing season that followed the Cardinals to the NFC title game was one of the most compelling things I ever watched, I laughed, I felt the tense drama of the game, and I cried (spoiler alert, the team president's dog died during that season)

The whole "I don't like what I saw"/interviews with the spiritual advisor angle was bizarre, given that Buddy basically didn't change at all. He's still an asshole, he treats his assistants like garbage, doesn't seem to actually like his players, and is pretty obviously unhappy. But he does 15 pushups when he swears, so that's cool.

recommendation) on this show! Hard Knocks was a tremendous show when it first came out because nobody knew what it was or how to react. Now the cat is out of the bag...and you don't get the same material you used to. All or Nothing on Amazon is a much better show than Hard Knocks now.

Winston is always in the middle of everything. He seems to know when to be tough on people, when to encourage people and when to just be a little goofy to lighten things up at the right times. He's really fun to watch. Also, Reilly is kinda fun to watch. He's an asshole, ha, but man does he play with some serious fire and anger.

Showtime does a similar series with colleges called "A Season With". They did Notre Dame in Season 1 and Florida State in Season 2. Season 3 will air in early September and is following Navy.

Notre Dame did that show The Season for ESPN in 2003, at peak "Return to Glory" fever. They lasted a few weeks until the 38-0 pasting. The episode for that week got bumped a few days, ended up being shown in a really weird timeslot, and then the show pretty much ghosted. The Michigan episode was hilarious--wish I could still find it online somewhere.

Even the newspaper announcing it is the most Notre Dame thing ever.

http://ndsmcobserver.com/2003/09/espns-the-season-features-irish/

"Fitting as it is, the Fightin’ Irish of Notre Dame will finally have their story told. They will no longer simply appear on NBC for a mere four hours each Saturday afternoon of college football season. For one hour a week, people can look in on this hallowed Notre Dame football program – “The Season: Inside Notre Dame.”"
